Brothers of Charity Services Ireland – Southern Region The Brothers of Charity Services Ireland – Southern Region is a major voluntary organisation, which provides age related residential, educational and day services for people with intellectual disabilities, autism and communication disorders throughout the Cork and Kerry area. Applications are invited for the following:- SERVICES MANAGER 2 / PERSON IN CHARGE– Ref: 19/2025 Social Care Manager 2 / Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (CNM2) GRADE Permanent Full-Time (39 /37.5 hours per week) Location: Adults Residential Services, Cork suburb/ County Watergrasshill/ Ballinhassig, Co. Cork The Purpose The post holder will have responsibility for a small number of houses, (initially 3 houses with 7 residents) registered as 2 Designated Centre(s). The Person will be responsible for the efficient and effective day-to-day management and co-ordination of all aspects of the service within the Service area. The model of Service will be based on the Good Lives and Stay Well planning systems. The successful candidate ideally should have a good working knowledge of Clinical Risk Management and in the identified planning systems or in the management of Services for persons with complex/behavioural support needs He/she will have responsibility for ensuring that the persons supported are appropriately placed within a day and residential placement at all times. The post holder must ensure that in keeping with the ethos of Service Communities, i.e. that the persons supported are enabled to reach their full potential, that options for progression are made available to per, particularly in terms of accessing the most appropriate day and residential services for them, throughout their lives. In order to ensure that the persons supported are residing and working in an area which is safe and healthy it will be important for the post holder works alongside the teams and makes periodic out of hours visits as appropriate in order to ensure that services are being delivered to the highest professional standards and in accordance with best practice. The post holder will work and be a member of the Sectoral Team and participate in the planning and future development of services, undertaking joint work and supporting the work within other Service Communities as directed by the Sector Manager. All matters relating to the Service are confidential in nature. Respect of the confidential nature of all information conveyed either verbally or in writing during the course of work is expected. A high level of flexibility, willingness and an ability to develop new approaches to your work as person supported needs demand is expected. To manage Services as allocated in accordance with all relevant legislation and Brothers of Charity policies and procedures, ensuring the service meets all the Health Information & Quality Authority (HIQA) minimum Standards and requirements. Ensure that the services provided help fulfil the Brothers of Charity vision for supporting persons with disability to live as valued citizens in their community. Working Context Residential supports are a very important part of the person’s life. Some of the people will have substantial personal care needs and some will have behaviour which is challenging. The manager is required to ensure that all relevant supports are identified and in place to support the person and staff in this regard. In addition to emergency cover, it is expected that the manager will work directly with the residents alongside the team as part of the roster to get a full insight into the operation of the service. Equally it is important for the post holder to make periodic out of hours visits as appropriate in order to ensure that services are being delivered to the highest professional standards and in accordance with best practice. Reporting to Area Manager or other authorised person as the Employing Authority may designate 1. The requisite knowledge, ability (including a high standard of administrative capacity) and experience of the proper discharge of the duties of the appointment Strategic planning and service development experience Possess or working towards a relevant management qualification. Post graduate training in Positive Behaviour Support is desirable Be flexible to meet the requirements of the service Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a high level of flexibility is essential Have experience of using alternative communication methods is essential Previous experience and understanding of how to support individuals with very specific and clinical support requirements and a clear understanding of the importance of working in line with written protocols and guidelines is desirable Have experience of using a person centered planning system is essential. Be computer literate including proficiency in Microsoft Office and knowledge and proficiency of using information systems 2. Driving Licence Candidates must possess a full driving licence, which qualifies you to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish roads as it is essential for the roles. 3. Age The Public Service Superannuation (Age of Retirement) Act, 2018* set 70 years as the compulsory retirement age for public servants. * Public Servants not affected by this legislation: Public servants recruited between 1 April 2004 and 31 December 2012 (new entrants) have no compulsory retirement age. Public servants recruited since 1 January 2013 are members of the Single Pension Scheme and have a compulsory retirement age of 70. 4. Health Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. 5. Character Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character. 6. Hours of Work The normal working hours will be 37.5/39 hours per week (depending on qualification), work as part of the roster and taking part in an out of hours rota for emergency cover. 7.
