BROTHERS OF CHARITY SERVICES IRELAND – WEST REGION POST OF TEMPORARY FULL-TIME BASIC GRADE SPEECH & LANGUAGE THERAPIST ADULT SERVICES EAST GALWAY JOB REF: 79571 A panel may be formed as a result of this process from which subsequent Basic Grade Speech & Language Therapist appointments within adult Services, Roscommon and Galway, may be made over the next 6 months. The Role: To support adults with an intellectual disability with their speech, language and communication needs and work with staff to develop supportive and enabling communication environments. To support any eating, drinking and swallowing needs for the individual and provide the necessary training to staff and families. Qualifications: Successful candidates must be currently registered with CORU, the regulator for health and social care professionals, and eligible for membership of the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists (I.A.S.L.T.). Qualifications as follows: A dysphagia qualification or equivalent as outlined in “Standards of Practice for Speech & Language Therapists on the Management of Feeding, Eating, Drinking and Swallowing Disorders (Dysphagia)” Irish Association of Speech & Language Therapists (IASLT) 2012 is desirable for this post. A full clean driving licence and use of your own car is an essential requirement. Fluency in verbal and written English is an essential requirement of this post. Experience: This post is suitable for a therapist with some post qualification clinical experience. A positive attitude to working with people with an intellectual disability is essential and experience in working with adults with disabilities an advantage. Applicants should outline their work experience and clinical placement experience and also give details of any other experience with children or adults who have disabilities. Training and/or experience in the use of AAC, Lámh or TEACCH is an advantage. Experience in the independent management of feeding, eating, drinking and swallowing disorders would be desirable but not essential. Working hours: 70 hours per fortnight based on a 5 day per week duty roster. Core working hours of 9-4pm must be covered. The Brothers of Charity Services Ireland model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual. The Health Service is undergoing ongoing transformation and therefore it is critical that a flexible attitude to changing environments and work requirements is held by the successful candidate. Annual Leave: 27 days pro rata per annum. Remuneration: Department of Health Speech and Language Therapist salary scale (01/03/2025) - €44,122 x 12 increments - €61,953 (Max) pro rata per annum. Location: This post is primarily located in Crannog Children’s Respite Service. Crannog provides a respite service to children up to 18 years of age who have a wide range of needs including those with Physical disability, complex medical needs, Autism and behavioural needs. There may also be a requirement to cover hours in the other Children’s Services including Crannmor Respite, Rosedale School and the Child Development Centres located in Galway City. Candidates will be required to be completely flexible in this position and will be required to work a variety of hours including day and night duty hours and sleep-ins as required. The Role: To support the implementation of children’s individualised developmental and educational programmes and work together with the multidisciplinary and staff teams in ensuring the maximum benefit of the programme for the children. To provide clinical nursing skills in supporting children with complex needs. To demonstrate and maintain the highest quality of nursing practice and apply his/ her skills to ensure the developmental, learning, physical, social, and emotional needs of the children in his/ her care are addressed at all times. Be an informed resource for educating and supporting care assistants and family members. Qualifications/Experience: Working Hours: 75 hours per fortnight based on a 7-day/night duty roster. The successful candidate will be required to work days, evenings, weekends, public holidays and night duty and sleep-ins to meet service needs. The Brothers of Charity model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual. Annual Leave : 24 days per annum. Appropriate service-related leave will be granted after 5 and 10 years’ service respectively. Remuneration - Department of Health salary scales as at 01/03/2025 apply: Staff Nurse - €36,919 x 11 increments - €53,340 per annum. Long Service Increment €54,928 per annum is granted after 3 years on the maximum of the scale. *Enhanced Nurse – € 43,872 x 7 increments - €55,093 per annum (pro-rata for part-time). Long Service Increment €56,706 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) is granted after 3 years on the maximum of the scale. *As per HSE HR Circular 022/2019 – Nursing and Midwifery - the Enhanced Nurse / Midwife Practice Contract https://www.hse.ie/eng/staff/resources/hr-circulars/hr-circular-022-2019-re-enhanced-nurse-midwife-contract.pdf; once a staff nurse reaches point 4 on the Staff Nurse salary scale, they become eligible to apply for the role of Enhanced Nurse. The successful candidate will be granted incremental credit subject to satisfactory verification of previous relevant nursing service.The Brothers of Charity Services model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual. Additional payments will be made for weekends, public holidays, and sleep-ins and night duty when worked. A location allowance of €2,637 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) will also be paid when assigned to services where 75% of the persons supported have a diagnosis of severe/profound intellectual disability.
