Project Officer

NIFRS has a proud tradition and history of serving the community with distinction.  NIFRS wish to invite applications for the following role: Project Officer (Digital) - Job Ref N006/02/2026 ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Fixed term post for a duration of 20 months NIFRS Regional Control Centre (RCC) has several digital projects ongoing to upgrade their critical systems to ensure they can respond to emergencies.  The Project Officer will play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of the digital CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) Update. CAD plays a vital role in managing and coordinating responses to incidents. It is used for incident management, resource management and incident logging. The postholder will assist in planning, coordination, stakeholder engagement, and monitoring activities to ensure the project is delivered on time, within scope, and to the highest standards. This is an excellent opportunity for suitably qualified individuals. Hours of work; Currently 36¼ hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. A Flexible Working Hours Scheme is in operation. There is currently one 20 month fixed term contract based at NIFRS HQ in Lisburn. This recruitment and selection process will also be used to fill future vacancies, a reserve list will be created for 12 months should any additional permanent or fixed term vacancies arise (offers of posts will be made in merit order). KEY PURPOSE OF JOB: As a member of the Parks and Amenities Unit, the post holder will be required to carry out a wide range of general maintenance and horticultural duties at various locations throughout the Council area, to include Golf Courses, Public Parks, Cemeteries, Sports Facilities, Playing Fields, Landscaped Areas and Open Spaces. The post holder will assume other delegated duties appropriate to the post, reasonably assigned by Management. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the maintenance and housekeeping duties of Golf Courses, Cemeteries, Parks, Playing Fields, Landscaped Areas and Open Spaces in accordance with Council Guidelines and standards, including the supervision of other staff as appropriate to scale, including deputising for the Chargehand as required and as directed. Answering Customer enquiries and delivery of information as required, for example opening and closing times, directions etc. Safe, effective and appropriate use and daily maintenance (inspection, fuel, oil, fault reporting) of grounds maintenance equipment and machinery in line with Council Health and Safety Policies and Procedures. Mobile grass cutting operations. Soil cultivation, fertilising, site preparation and construction labouring. Horticultural operations such as the planting of trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals and bulbs as directed. Driving large agricultural tractors and articulated vehicles, for example van and trailer, as and when required. Hedge cutting and trimming operations, clearing leaves and litter. Simple pruning to trees, shrubs and perennials and the handling and application of chemical sprays as directed. Maintaining all records relevant to the post and undertaking all duties in accordance with all Council Health and Safety Policies and Procedures including Risk Assessment, Manual Handling, Personal Protective Equipment, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (CoSHH) etc., and participation in all relevant Training Programmes. Golf Course Specific Duties Fine turf mobile grass cutting operations, including playing surface preparations of all tees, greens, fairways, approaches, aprons, rough and semi rough areas, including sand trap maintenance, hole cutting and moving and setting out tee markers. Soil cultivation, fertilising, turfing, seed bed preparation and any associated horticultural operations. Localised drainage works and site construction labouring including tee box, bunker and pathway construction and maintenance as directed. Cemetery Specific Duties Digging and back filling of graves by hand or mechanical means, including the burial of cremation remains. Ensuring grave areas are prepared prior to burial ceremonies and returning areas to an appropriate level of cleanliness and tidiness after burial ceremonies. Assisting with the handling of coffins and other burial equipment, including lowering coffins into prepared graves, dealing with grieving relatives appropriately and working with undertaking company staff. Note The post holder should be aware that the responsibilities and functional areas of the post may be subject to change as a result of organisational change. The Council therefore reserves the right to change the duties of the post by adding to or amending the range of functional responsibilities. The post holder will be required to be flexible.
