Job Description Duration: Temporary contract post, the indicative duration of which is approx. 6 - 9 months, subject to contract. A panel may be formed from which future similar vacancies may be filled; such a panel will remain active for a maximum period of 12 months. Basic Function The Walsh Scholarships Development Officer will be responsible for developing, co-ordinating and implementing development activities to support and promote the Teagasc Walsh Scholarships Programme. Background The Teagasc Walsh Scholarships Programme is a postgraduate programme offering Scholarships to graduates to undertake research in agriculture, food, environmental science, agri-food economics, rural development, horticulture and other related disciplines. The programme aims to develop intellectual capital within the agri-food sector and wider economy; increase Teagasc’s research and knowledge transfer capacity and support the development of new areas of research in Teagasc. The programme has grown significantly over the years and Teagasc now has 260 Walsh Scholars across its research and knowledge transfer programmes with an annual investment of €6m from Teagasc grant in aid and from competitive funding awards such as the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s FIRM, Stimulus and CoFord programmes. Job Objectives The duties and responsibilities listed below reflect the broad nature of the activities for this role. However, the duties assigned to the successful candidate will be adjusted to reflect their skills and the duration of the contract. Main Duties and Responsibilities: Other As this role will involved driving vehicles, candidates must satisfy and continue to satisfy during employment with Teagasc, legal requirements to drive a car unaccompanied on Irish public roads. Eligibility This is an open public competition. Should a current serving Teagasc staff member be successful in their application through open public competition for this post, their current contract of employment with Teagasc will come to an end on taking up this post. Salary:   Research Officer with a Salary Scale of €38,558 to €74,094

Relief Worker – All Regions , Longford, Waterford, Wexford, Carlow, Cork  €16.27 per hour  Casual  Hours: “As and When Required” basis - required to be available to cover shifts across a 24/7 rota (includes waking night shifts) Your new role This role offers a fantastic opportunity to provide support to our organisation’s central services team, we have relief roles across Ireland. Depaul is a values-led organisation working with a number of services throughout the Republic and Northern Ireland. This role will report directly to the Local Management Team and will be responsible for providing an efficient and high quality service at any one of our projects working alongside a fully trained staff team to provide supported accommodation, food and shelter to residents. Because of the transient nature of the role, relief workers will be required to think on their feet and to adapt to new situations quickly. Essential Criteria  Level 5 QQI qualification or above in social care, or a suitably related area Or 1 years’ experience working in the homelessness field or another suitably related area, desirably in a residential setting would be desirable. AND  Have a good standard of education. A Manual handling qualification would be desirable. Have an understanding of harm reduction and low threshold working Understand why people become homeless and the issues they present with, and what supports can be offered in services to service users with complex needs Understanding of risk management principles. Capable of responding calmly in a crisis and use your own initiative to deal with incidents as they arise Be able to work as part of a team understanding the importance of team communication Have an understanding of Health and Safety and the health and safety requirements within a residential setting working with homeless people. Have a knowledge and understanding of the vision, mission and values of Depaul. Proficient use of IT required in role, including email in a professional capacity.
