MWA-02 Sparkle Marie-Curie Fellowships in Photonics  Contract: Full Time/Fixed Term The Irish Photonics Integration Centre (IPIC) is emerging as one of Europe’s top research centres in photonics integration, incorporating the expertise of 18 Principal Investigators (PIs) covering topics from photonics theory through to full system development, i.e. the full technology development cycle where the underpinning sciences are explored in parallel to the development and fabrication of novel prototype devices and systems. IPIC is focused on training Europe’s future photonics research leaders and is currently hosting the  SPARKLE fellowship programme . It is co-funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action COFUND programme and Science Foundation Ireland offering 27 x two year postdoctoral fellowships. Positions are open to experienced researchers of any nationality, resident anywhere in the world, seeking a prestigious career development path in the field of photonics research and innovation. Fellows will be based in Ireland at one of the following IPIC Academic partner locations. Health Technology Assessment Analyst

The purpose of this role is to join a multidisciplinary team with responsibility for the effective implementation of HIQA’s programmes to deliver high quality health technology assessments, other evidence-based advice and evidence synthesis outputs, and therefore to embed evidence-based methodology in the health decision-making processes in Ireland. The HTA team, overall, comprises approximately 30 analysts. The scope of HIQA’s work includes providing evidence synthesis and evidence-based advice to inform the public health response to COVID-19, providing evidence synthesis to support the work of the National Screening Advisory Committee, and health technology assessment advice to inform investment or disinvestment in health technologies and programmes. HIQA also performs evidence synthesis to support the development of National Clinical Guidelines & Audit and the development of national health policy, and appraises and develops evidence synthesis reviews related to medical exposure to ionising radiation. HIQA works collaboratively with high-level stakeholders, with academic groups and with international HTA agencies to deliver on these objectives. Methods development and academic outputs are actively encouraged and the Directorate hosts a range of post-graduate fellowships and an active post-graduate degree training programme. The post holder will actively engage in the work of the HTA directorate and of HIQA to deliver on the annual business plan in line with the strategic objectives as outlined in HIQA’s Corporate Plan. The HTA Analyst will undergo comprehensive training in evidence synthesis and HTA, which will include the opportunity to pursue externally delivered training. A number of opportunities to pursue a paid postgraduate degree (PhD or Master’s) will be available to those who score highest at interview. 24 Month, Fixed-Term, Whole-time Post Position Summary APC Microbiome Ireland (APC) is a leading global centre in gut microbiota research. Researchers in the APC are transforming knowledge of the gut microbiome into ways to improve human and animal health. The APC has made several landmark discoveries and has published over 2,500 research articles in peer-reviewed journals. The APC comprises over 300 individuals, from the scientific PI’s (the APC Faculty) funded by the partner Institutions, the management team, and a dedicated group of research scientists, research assistants and postgraduate students. The O’Toole lab has a globally-leading position in microbiome analysis in healthy aging, and in investigating diet-microbiome interactions. The MASTER project is an EU Horizons2020-funded project, co-ordinated by APC PI Prof. Paul Cotter in Teagasc Moore park. It addresses a significant challenge within the ‘LC-SFS-03-2018: Microbiome applications for sustainable food systems’ by virtue of its RELEVANCE TO MICROBIOMES ALONG THE ENTIRE FOOD CHAIN, yielding outputs of commercial relevance across many products and processes areas. We will harness microbiome knowledge to significantly enhance the health and resilience of fish, plants, soil, animals and humans. To advance the research undertaken by the O’Toole lab in MASTER, we are now seeking to recruit a two-year Research Assistant to help us evaluate the effect of diverse dietary ingredients on the gut microbiome. This will be a position at the exciting interface between food technology, microbiology and bioinformatics, with a focus on developing health-promoting food products that promote gut health. The job will be based in the O’Toole PAC in the School of Microbiology, main UCC campus, Cork. It will involve a number of approaches and methods including the artificial colon model (batch fermenter). Role: To perform high-level research on the role of the gut microbiome in promoting gut health, and the effect of diet on the microbiome Required qualifications: MSc and a minimum of 2 years research experience in projects involving molecular microbiology, bacteriology and molecular biology. Knowledge of gut microbiome analysis, and the use of batch fermenters or an artificial colon model is desirable, but training will be available.
