Clinical Nurse Specialist, Lower GI CNM

Job Purpose: The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Gastroenterology will demonstrate an advanced level of knowledge and skills to improve the quality of patient care. The post holder will support the on-going development of the Gastroenterology service and be responsible for ensuring the delivery of specialist nursing within the service. The CNS in Gastroenterology will focus primarily on patients attending the service for therapeutic lower GI and luminal endoscopic procedures. Pre-procedural, intra-procedural (hands-on in rooms/training) and post-procedural care will be a core element of this role. Data collection in relation to patient clinical outcomes will also form part of the role, under supervision of the relevant GI consultant. . The CNS will co-ordinate patients’ care and liaise between patients and the multidisciplinary team. The CNS will attend relevant sessions of the weekly GI multidisciplinary meeting and be responsible for recording outcomes and management plans. S/he will provide professional, clinical and managerial leadership to all nursing staff in particular the Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (CNM2). The NIU Clinical Nurse Manager will work closely with the NIU Clinical Lead in coordinating NIU activation, simulation, protocol development and training. They will support and lead CNS and SDF in NIU. They will work with MMUH strategic project team during development of the NIU and provide NIU nursing representation on national outbreak response committees. When not doing NIU duties they will support the EASM directorate, senior nurse management team, have oversight of the ID wards/ID outpatient clinics and assist across the directorate as required.
