Dublin Zoo holds the prestigious position of being ‘ Ireland’s Number One Fee Paying Family Attraction ’ having welcomed in excess of one million visitors each year. Our purpose is to save wildlife and inspire a passion for nature – one person, one family at a time. Dublin Zoo is currently seeking to recruit two highly motivated zoo professionals for the positions of Assistant Keeper/Entry Level Keeper to work on a full time basis with our Animal Care Teams. Weekly hours will be 39 hours per week on average including up to 36 weekends throughout the year, pro rata. The ideal candidates will be passionate and knowledgeable about wildlife and will have the skills required to communicate this passion and knowledge directly to our visitors. They must demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of animal husbandry, diets and environmental enrichment, as well as an understanding and knowledge of research, conservation and health and safety practices. The successful candidates must have some experience working in animal care with an understanding of the principles of animal welfare and the ability to demonstrate a responsible and enthusiastic approach to their work. Candidates who have achieved an appropriate animal related qualification (DMZAA or equivalent) and have two years of work experience in a relevant animal keeping role will be considered for an Entry Level Keeper position. Candidates who have not (yet) achieved an appropriate animal related qualification (DMZAA or equivalent) or are in the process of completing it, or working within the two year period post-qualification will be considered for an Assistant Keeper position.
