MA in Circular by Design The MA in Circular by Design is a part-time programme for those who want to build a deep and nuanced understanding of sustainability and circularity and practically apply that knowledge to their own practice. The programme combines theory and practice and champions collaborative and pre-competitive processes. The MA reimagines design as a catalyst for systemic change challenging linear production models and enabling regenerative, life-centred approaches to materials, ecosystems, society, and culture. It supports creative practitioners in interrogating and disrupting current systems and in designing alternatives that are circular by intent. The programme combines theory and practice and champions collaborative and pre-competitive processes. The Assistant Lecturer will be part of a cross disciplinary team of academics responsible for the delivery and ongoing development of NCAD’s Circular by Design programmes. This specific role supportsparticipants to rethink the purpose of textiles and fashion in order to create regenerative solutions that challenge linear models and promote sustainable transformation across the industry. The role will also contribute to related undergraduate and postgraduate awards, and support the integration of sustainable, circular, and regenerative design across NCAD’s wider curriculum. There is a critical need to build the circular innovation capacity of Ireland’s design sector, and equip the next generation of creatives with the knowledge, skills and mindset needed to rethink why, what and how we make. NCAD is delivering a suite of programmes, for current and future professionals who want to investigate and challenge the current ‘linear’ state-of-play. Through a combination of taught seminars and workshops and independent study, learners will be invited to question and critique the purpose of textiles and fashion today, and investigate alternative ways of designing, producing, selling, using and disposing of textiles and clothing. Using their own design practice, research and experience as a guide, learners will develop their own critical perspective on the local and global challenges the industry faces, and begin to shape and articulate their unique role within it, as change makers. Through live industry-informed and led projects, learners will have the opportunity to collaborate with peers and with external partners such as fashion and textiles brands, retailers and manufacturers, circular innovators, social enterprises and local councils to innovate and test new circular materials, products and services. Role This specified purpose contract will further develop, co-ordinate and deliver NCAD’s part-time MA in Circular by Design and related programmes, with particular focus on sustainability and circularity within the fashion and textiles sector as well as delivering and teaching sustainable, circular and regenerative design principles and practices to learners across the College where required. Prison Officers Recruitment Campaign
The 2025 Prison Officer recruitment campaign has opened for applications. The campaign aims to identify and appoint 300 new prison officers to support the ongoing operation and development of Ireland’s prison system. Applicants will face a multi-stage selection process, including written assessments, physical fitness tests, interviews, and background checks. Those who successfully progress will receive full training and on-the-job mentorship to prepare them for the role. There has also been a launch of a Virtual Prison Tour: a new web-based innovative tool that allows visitors, service users, and the wider public to see inside an Irish Prison, guided by a digitally created Prison Officer. This project aims to increase public understanding of how our prisons function and operate on a day-to-day basis. The Irish Prison Service deals with male and female offenders who are 18 years of age or older. There are 13 operational prisons in the Irish prison estate, comprising of 10 traditional ‘closed’ prisons and two ‘open’ centres (the latter operate with minimal internal and perimeter security).
