This position is funded by the Science Foundation Ireland and is available from 1st November 2021 to contract end date of 30st November 2022. The positions are funded by the SFI Research Professorship I nnovative E nergy T echnologies for Bio fuels, Bio energy and a S ustainable Irish Bio economy (IETSBIO3), which aims to carry out an ambitious research program on fundamental and applied research and development for new energy production processes from organic wastes in support of providing a self-sufficient Irish energy sector. The position is available from November 2021. A full-time, fixed term (12 month) is offered. The postholders will work within a research/academic team to elucidate and optimise the microbiological pathways involved in the anaerobic biodegradation of organic materials (organic solid waste, agro-industrial waste, dairy-processing wastewaters) with the aim to maximise the yield of bioenergy vectors embedded in these waste materials. The successful candidate will be expected to take responsibility for supporting the on-going research to meet appropriate milestones, timelines and deliverables as part of the overall SFI Research Professorship. The successful candidate will be based in the Microbiology discipline at NUI Galway. Job Description: The successful candidates will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the lab-scale and pilot scale anaerobic wastewater treatment systems as well as waste gas treatment systems. The posts will also support ongoing PhD and Postdoctoral bioreactor projects. The successful candidates will be expected to take responsibility for meeting appropriate milestones, timelines and deliverables as part of the overall work programme.
