Nwcam Engineering Design Technician
The College is seeking applications for an Engineering Design Technician as part of the PEACEPLUS North West Centre for Advanced Manufacturing 2 (NWCAM2), to be based at our Greystone campus for a fixed-term position until September 2029. The postholder will play a key role in supporting the delivery of Strand 2 activities within the PEACEPLUS NWCAM2 programme. Reporting directly to the NWCAM2 Engineering Research and Innovation Manager, the NWCAM2 Design Technician will contribute to the development and implementation of engineering solutions for SMEs operating in the Health and Life Sciences sector. The position will involve supporting product development prototyping activities and engineering design within technical innovation projects, helping to convert new ideas into practical, high-quality outputs that are delivered within agreed timescales. The successful candidate will assist SMEs in adopting innovative technologies, sustainable practices, and advanced manufacturing techniques, with a particular emphasis on low-carbon approaches and the application of research-led solutions. Profile of Craft Core Skills Carpentry & Joinery Construction The Trade of Carpentry & Joinery is very wide and varied, it encompasses most of the skills required by the Wood Trades. These skills required of the Carpenter & Joiner are not confined to those required to work in wood but include skills in the use of metals, plastics and fabrics. The Carpenter & Joiner is also required to work in a cross section of domains within the overall trade. The following are some examples: Joinery Shop: This section of the occupation requires the Carpenter & Joiner to engage in setting out, production and assembling items of joinery which include stairs, doors, windows and built-in furniture. Site Work: Site work is the construction of buildings or houses which require 1st fixing, formwork roofs and 2nd fixing. This section is split into two categories, constructing/civil engineering contracts. Maintenance: Maintenance work requires the Carpenter & Joiner to carry out a variety of tasks in general maintenance and upkeep of public and private buildings, e.g. shops and factories. There are other areas associated with the trade which include: renovating buildings, shopfitting, exhibition/display work. The main duties of the role include: • Following company procedures for the set-up and operation of dispense/labelling lines. • Following company procedures for the dispensing and labelling of a range of diagnostic products. • Maintaining the relevant documentation. • Carry out routine maintenance of an automated dispense/labelling line. • Trouble-shooting basic problems relevant to the automated dispense/labelling line. • Maintenance and upkeep of equipment and instruments used in association with the automated dispense and labelling lines.
