The ANP post is within Psychiatry of Old Age Community Mental Health Team, Sligo Leitrim Mental Health Services (Sligo, Leitrim, West Cavan and South Donegal). The team base is Liscarney House, Pearse Road, Sligo. Details of Service The Psychiatry of Old Age (POA) service is a specialist mental health service providing care to patients 65 years and over, who develop functional psychiatric illness for the first time and those people with dementia who develop secondary symptoms (Responsive Behaviours / BPSD) requiring specialist input and care. POA is a speciality of psychiatry involved in the assessment diagnoses treatment and management of the full spectrum of mental illness which occur in this age group. The aging population and increasingly understood psychosocial stressors and co-morbid physical health difficulties has resulted in significant year on year referral increases to the services and highlighted the need for increasingly diverse approaches to care provision. The development of an advanced nursing practice service within the POA will further enhance care to the specific patient group through providing advanced clinical nursing care autonomously. The development of an RANP role will support the integration of services resulting in increased access and integration. The current POA team is interdisciplinary, highly functioning community mental health team, Consultant led, providing community and acute care for patients referred from Sligo Leitrim West Cavan and south Donegal. Involving patients, carers and relevant others is a key foundation in all decision making around care delivery. Working with key strategies and policies are instrumental to developing POA services, in 2020 the review of the Vision for Change (2006) was published ‘Sharing the Vision’ A Mental Health Policy for Everyone’(HSE,2020) and this will be key to developing services into the future. The successful candidate will be required to start Monday 14th July 2025. This is an exciting opportunity for the post-holder to join a busy neurosurgical unit that manages both acute and scheduled cranial and spinal referrals. The post will involve working with team of 5 Consultants, 5 Registrars, 3 Senior House Officers and 2 Interns. The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary surgical and medical team. This post provides excellent neurosurgical experience and plentiful educational opportunities for the post-holder, who will be encouraged to participate in educational programme and presentations. Qualifications and skills Suitable applicants should have experience at Registrar level in Neurosurgery, preferably in the UK and Ireland. Applicants should be registered with the Irish Medical Council and passed MRCS or equivalent. The successful candidate should demonstrate a strong grounding in Cranial and Spinal Neurosurgery and a keen interest in research and teaching. While a prior clinical research experience and/or publications are desirable, these are not essential.
