Senior Occupational Therapist
Job Summary Purpose of Role: The staff appointed to these roles will be assigned to work with children in care in specified TUSLA area(s), working as part of multi-disciplinary team(s) delivering a co-ordinated service to children, young people and their families. The purpose of the post is to participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team within an Area Based Therapy Team. The team collaborates with the social work department to provide MDT input into care planning. The post holder will work collaboratively with a variety of services to assess and understand the therapeutic needs of young people and their families in the care of Tulsa and respond with interventions that are timely, proportionate, needs led, evidence based and in partnership with the young people and their families. Other key stakeholders could include HSE primary care, Disability services, CAMHS, Schools, PHN’s, GP’s, etc and other community and voluntary organisations. When children enter care, there can be limited information available pertaining to the child/young person’s developmental and medical history. Occupational therapists use their understanding of typical childhood development to consider a child’s developmental therapeutic needs across the Person (psychosocial skills, cognitive skills, sensorimotor skills), Task (performance of occupations, behaviours) and Context (cultural, social, physical). Occupational therapists have a key role in supporting the caring network to understand the impact of trauma on everyday functioning and can focus upon improving underdeveloped systems and skills through occupation. The post holder will focus upon supporting children in care to engage in occupations and in activities that allow desired or needed participation in community lift, home, workplace, and school situations in the areas of activities of daily living. Interventions that strengthen environmental protective factors for children who have experienced trauma is a key area of practice in trauma-informed Occupational Therapy. Occupational Therapists recognise the interconnectedness between the child in car’s environment and their participation in occupations. Optometrist, Clinical
Purpose of the Post The Clinical Optometrist will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering a coordinated approach to client care within the Community Ophthalmic Service. The primary aim of the Primary Care Eye Services is to promote good ophthalmic health and quality of life for all categories of patients who attend the eye clinic. Patients are referred to the Community Ophthalmology Service by Public Health Nurses, School Nurses, Community Medical Doctors, General Practitioners, Ophthalmologists, Paediatricians, Optometrists and Disability Services. The Optometrists therefore have a vital role to play in providing a comprehensive and high-quality eye care service to patients in conjunction with other members of the multi-disciplinary team. The Clinical Optometrist will provide paediatric eye care. The post holder will be responsible for refractions and ocular examination of patients detecting ophthalmic pathology in patients referred to the ophthalmology service and to direct such patients for appropriate treatment. The Sligo Leitrim Primary Care Ophthalmology Service is in Sligo town and the person appointed to the post may be expected to work across the IHA. The Clinical Optometrist will be expected to participate in the implementation of the National Primary Care Eye Services Review Group Report published in 2017. Reporting Relationship The post holder will: - Report clinically/professionally to the Consultant Ophthalmologist, or delegated officer where appropriate. - Report operationally to the Business Manager, Community Ophthalmic Department. Details of Service The newly established HSE West & North West Health Region will manage and deliver all public health and social care services for Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Galway and Mayo. The redesign of services will allow new pathways to be developed between acute and community services, primary care, health and wellbeing, and voluntary sectors to create more integrated, person-centred care. HSE West and North West include all the region's community healthcare, hospitals, primary care, and public health services.
