Job Purpose: Under the responsibility of the FET Director and reporting directly to the Adult Education Officer (AEO), the Adult Literacy Organiser (ALO) will have responsibility leading and managing specific Adult Education (part-time) programmes and services within designated area of MSLETB. S/he will be responsible for developing, communicating and implementing actions in order to achieve MSLETB’s FET Strategic targets under the National FET Strategy (2026-2030). Key Duties / Areas of Responsibility of ALO Leader of teaching and learning: • Develop and maintain an ethos appropriate to adult learning. • Promote effective teaching, learning and assessment strategies across the service. • Recruit, assess and place learners to appropriate learning groups or one-to-one situations. • Organise and/or support the delivery of initial and ongoing training and development for staff including volunteers. Leader of People and Teams • Plan, develop and manage the provision of basic adult education in consultation with the AEO/Director of FET. • Support, motivate and manage tutors and learners. Performance manage staff, set clear expectations, provide regular feedback and monitor and control activity. • Assist the AEO in the promotion of ongoing staff development and in the identification of the staffing needs of the service. Communications • Promote basic adult education through networking, awareness raising and publicity. • Liaise with relevant voluntary, statutory and community bodies. • Maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. • Have the capacity to communicate clear messages to a wide variety of audiences both orally and in writing. Organisational management and administrative skills • Manage resources, e.g. finance, materials, premises, etc. • Keep records and prepare reports and submissions in consultation with the AEO/FET Director/CE, as appropriate. • Implement an organisational timetable/calendar regarding administrative matters such as DES/SOLAS returns. • Establish and maintain effective data management systems such as student records etc. Self-awareness and self-management • Enhance own expertise through training, development, and networking with relevant bodies. • Reflect on own actions with a view to continuous learning and development. • Set a good standard of professional interactions and ensure excellent relationship boundaries are in place. • Be aware of own skill set and traits and seek help and advice when required. • Uphold professional integrity at all time, for example, in showing discretion and in maintaining confidentiality. • Maintain an ethos appropriate to adult learning. • Enhance own expertise through training, development and networking with relevant professional National organisations and associations e.g. NALA and the Adult Literacy Organisers Association. Reporting to: Adult Education Officer Nature of Post: Permanent Contract The Office The office is a permanent whole-time contract of employment. The normal working week is a 35 hours five-day week basis excluding breaks. The holder of the office shall not engage in any gainful occupation, other than as an officer of MSLETB, to such an extent as to impair the performance of his or her duties or in any occupation which might conflict with the interests of MSLETB or which might be inconsistent with discharge of his or her duties as an MSLETB Officer. Probation The successful candidate shall serve a probationary period in accordance with the terms set out in MSLETB’s Probationary Policy. Salary The salary shall be fully inclusive and shall be as determined from time to time. Holders of the office shall pay to MSLETB any fees or other monies (other than their inclusive salary) payable to or received by them by virtue of their office or in respect of any services which they are required by or under any enactment to perform. School Warden
About Fingal County Council Fingal is a highly attractive place to live, work, visit and do business. It comprises a geographical area of 450 sq.km stretching from Balbriggan in the north, to Blanchardstown in the west and to Howth in the east. The area is defined by the diversity of its landscape and settlement patterns with rural, urban and suburban locations all rolled into one county. There is 88kms of coastline, three large protected estuaries and salt marsh habitats and 13 major beaches. Fingal County Council is one of the county’s major local employers and currently employs approximately 1,600 staff. The Council is mandated to deliver a diverse range of functions and services which can be broadly described under the headings of the provision of physical and social infrastructure, housing, economic and tourism development, community development, recreation and amenity services and the management of the planning and environmental regulatory framework. The role of the County Council as provided for in law is to represent, lead and serve the communities of Fingal. 1. The Role The role of the School Warden is to ensure the safety of children crossing the road at a designated point between specified times. The discharge of these duties must not be to the detriment of the welfare of other road users. The postholder will be responsible to the Road Safety Unit, under the direction of the designated person in the Environment, Climate Action, Active Travel and Sports Department. The School Warden positions will be based in the Dublin 15 Area and the Howth/Malahide Area. Successful candidates for the position of School Warden, who have passed the interview process, will automatically be appointed as temporary Reserve School Wardens, subject to Garda Vetting and Medical examination. Reserve School Wardens may be contacted to cover periods of absence for permanent School Wardens. If you are successful and a permanent position becomes available, you will be offered this on the basis of your appointment on the panel Duties The holder of the position shall be responsible for the following duties as assigned by the Supervisor: · To attend for duty at the prescribed times, and to perform such duty under the direction of the Council’s Road Safety Officer regarding Health and Safety Procedures · Maintain control over children who are awaiting your instructions to cross · To use the statutory uniform and equipment required under the Road Traffic Act, 1961, provided for the safety of yourself, children and all other members of the public, in order to stop traffic on the public roadway · To wear the statutory uniform at all times when on duty and to ensure that the uniform is kept in a clean and neat condition · To use the statutory ‘Stop Sign’ supplied by Fingal County Council · Report any problems or difficulties to the appropriate supervisor · To furnish records and reports as required · Or any such duties that may be assigned to him/her from time to time These tasks are indicative rather than exhaustive and other duties may be assigned. Qualifications and Requirements of the Post CHARACTER Each candidate must be of good character. Garda Vetting is compulsory under the Council’s Child Protection Policy. HEALTH Candidates shall be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, ETC. Candidates shall have have obtained such a standard of education as would enable the candidate to effectively carry out the duties of the post. Particulars of Employment The employment is part-time, permanent and pensionable. Persons who become pensionable employees of a local authority who are liable to pay the Class A rate of PRSI contribution will be required in respect of their superannuation to contribute to the local authority at the rate of 1.5% of their pensionable remuneration plus 3.5% of net pensionable remuneration (i.e. pensionable remuneration less twice the annual rate of social insurance old age contributory pension payable at the maximum rate to a person with no adult dependent or qualified children). Persons who become pensionable employees of a local authority who are liable to pay the Class D rate of PRSI contribution will be required in respect of their superannuation to contribute to the local authority at the rate of 5% of their pensionable remuneration. All persons who become pensionable employees of a local authority will be required in respect of the local Government (Spouses and Children’s Contributory Pension) Scheme to contribute to the local authority at the rate of 1.5% of their pensionable remuneration in accordance with the terms of the Scheme. PROBATION (a) there shall be a period after such employment takes effect during which such persons shall hold such employment on probation, (b) such period shall be one year but the Chief Executive may at his or her discretion extend such period, (c) such persons shall cease to hold employment at the end of the period of probation unless during such period the Chief Executive has certified that the service of such persons is satisfactory. WAGES Wages will be paid at the rate of €15.23 per hour .Normal hours of work will be 3.5 hours per day on official duty. Reserve School Warden hours may vary. The Council reserves the right to alter hours of work from time to time. a) Wages will not be paid for days on which wardens are not on duty. b) Payment will be suspended (i) during periods of closure of the particular school or schools for holidays at Christmas, Easter, Summer and mid-term breaks and (ii) during other such periods as may be determined by the County Council c) Payment of holiday pay will be in accordance with the terms of The Organisation of Working Time Act, 1997. In general holiday pay will be paid each year at the end of the school year. Persons who are not serving local authority employees will be based on the minimum of the scale. Holders of the post shall pay to the local authority any fees or other monies (other than their inclusive salary) payable to or received by them by virtue of their post or in respect of any services which they are required by or under any enactment to perform. HEALTH For the purpose of satisfying the requirement as to health it will be necessary for successful candidates, before they are employed, to undergo a medical examination by a qualified medical practitioner to be nominated by the Local Authority. RETIREMENT AGE The retirement age is 70 years. The Selection Process: Fingal County Council reserves the right to shortlist applications, if required. This is not to suggest that any candidate may be unsuitable or incapable of undertaking the duties of the post advertised, but rather that there may be candidates who have demonstrated that they are better qualified and/or have more relevant experience. The number of persons to be invited, in these circumstances, to interview shall be determined by the local authority from time to time, having regard to the likely number of vacancies to be filled. Step 1: Initial Screening In the first instance, all applications received by the latest date/time for receipt of completed applications are screened for eligibility in accordance with the qualifications for the post as set out in this booklet and declared by the Minister for the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage under Section 160 of the Local Government Act 2001. Step 2: Shortlisting Each candidate’s application may be assessed against pre-determined criteria based on the requirements of the position as outlined in this booklet. It is the sole responsibility of the applicant to provide a detailed and accurate account of their qualifications and/or experience in their application form and to outline the relevance of their experience in the examples provided. Step 3: Interview Candidates who are successful in the shortlisting process will be invited to attend for interview(s). Fingal County Council will endeavor to give sufficient notice of the interview to shortlisted candidates. Thereafter, it is the responsibility of the candidate to make themselves available on the date/time selected. Candidates who do not attend for interview will be deemed to have withdrawn their application from the competition. Expenses incurred by candidates in attending for interview, will be at the candidates own expense. An independent interview board will be established by the Senior Executive Officer, People Services, or other designated officer, to assess the candidates shortlisted for interview. The interview board will generally comprise of a Chairperson and two other members, who will have expert knowledge in the relevant field. The objective of the interview board is to identify candidates who best meet the objective criteria and competencies required for the position and to place them in order of merit. Candidates who are successful in the interview will be qualified in order of merit for appointment to the post of School Warden and placed on a panel. It should be noted that placement on a panel may not necessarily lead to a job offer. The selection process is not concluded until such time as references have been sought and clearance checks, i.e. Garda vetting, occupational health, verification of education qualifications, etc, have been carried out to the satisfaction of the Council. Recruitment The local authority shall require a person to whom employment is offered to take up such employment within a period of not more than 6 weeks and if he or she fails to take up the employment within such period or such longer period as the local authority in its absolute discretion may determine, the local authority shall not employ the person.
Retained Firefighter
Qualifications 1. Character Each candidate must be of good character, and the successful applicant may be subject to Garda Vetting prior to any appointment being confirmed. 2. Age Each candidate must be at least 18 years of age on 1 April 2026. The retirement age for retained firefighters is 55 years of age, with the possibility of extension up to 62 years of age subject to conditions. 3. Health Each candidate must be free from any defects that would render the person unsuitable to perform the duties of the post and must be in a state of health that indicates a reasonable prospect of delivering regular and efficient service. To satisfy this requirement, candidates must undergo, at their own expense, an initial medical examination by a qualified medical practitioner nominated by Cork County Council. On taking up appointment, the cost of the medical examination will be refunded. Retained firefighters will be required to undergo regular and ad hoc medical examinations at any time. Given the strenuous nature of firefighting duties, the medical examination will be very thorough. The following conditions will render an applicant unsuitable and lead to disqualification: History of epilepsy Alcohol or drug dependency Obesity Chronic bronchitis, asthma, or other disabling lung disease Organic disease of the cardiovascular system Diabetes mellitus Unaided vision less than 6/12 in either eye Inability to hear a forced whisper or conversational voice separately in either ear at 20 feet Evidence of labyrinthine disturbance A history of vertigo or illness affecting balance History of mental instability It is recommended that retained firefighters be vaccinated against the Hepatitis B virus. The vaccine will be made available free of charge to successful candidates. Fitness Test As part of the pre-employment medical examination, candidates must complete a fitness test. Candidates who are successful at interview must pass the fitness test before employment is offered. The fitness test is the Chester Step Test, which measures aerobic capacity and fitness and involves a moderately vigorous level of physical activity. A good level of fitness is required to pass this test, and it typically takes several weeks or longer to achieve the necessary fitness level. Candidates who fail the initial Chester Step Test will be offered one further fitness test only. This may be either a Chester Step Test or a Shuttle Run test, as determined by Cork County Council. No additional retests will be offered. 4. Residence and Availability Applicants must reside and work within two miles of the fire station of the relevant unit and must not have ordinary activities that take them away from the town where the brigade is located. On receipt of a fire or emergency call, the firefighter must be able to attend the station within five minutes. Unemployed persons may apply, provided they meet the residence and availability requirements. 5. Licence Each applicant must hold a full current Category B European Community Model Driving Licence free from endorsement. 6. Garda Vetting Candidates successful at interview will be required to undergo Garda Vetting, which will be arranged by Cork County Council. Particulars of Employment 1. Employment Type The employment is part time. Panels may be used to fill permanent and temporary vacancies. 2. Pension New entrant retained firefighters who commence on or after 1 January 2013 will be members of the Single Public Service Pension Scheme, established under the Public Service Pensions (Single Scheme and Other Provisions) Act 2012. The Single Scheme does not provide for a retained firefighters gratuity. New entrants will pay superannuation contributions each quarter, with pension lump sum and pension payable on retirement, subject to conditions. 3. Retirement Retained firefighters must retire upon reaching the age limit for the employment, currently 55 years of age, with extension up to 62 years subject to conditions. 4. Training Requirements Successful candidates will be appointed on a probationary basis and must complete the following courses: a) Firefighting Skills Course A full time three week course held in Ireland, requiring attendance away from home from Monday to Friday b) Breathing Apparatus Course A full time course of two weeks duration held outside the county c) Compartment Fire Behaviour Training Course A one week course, normally held outside the county d) Occupational First Aid Course A full time course of approximately three days held within the county e) Class C Heavy Goods Vehicle driving licence Failure to complete these courses satisfactorily will result in termination of employment. 5. Probation Subject to completion of required training, employment is subject to a one year probationary period. During this period, employment may be terminated by either party with one week’s notice. After confirmation, employment may be terminated in accordance with the Minimum Notice and Terms of Employment Act 1973 or without notice in cases of serious misconduct. 6. Grooming Requirement Due to the requirement to wear breathing apparatus, all facial hair below the line of the upper lip must be removed. 7. Additional Training Retained firefighters must be prepared to attend additional training courses in Ireland or the United Kingdom. 8. Availability Retained firefighters are required to be available for 24 weeks per year on a week on and week off basis, excluding four weeks of annual leave. During off duty weeks, firefighters may attend incidents if they wish. If a rostered member is unavailable, they must arrange cover with another member and notify the Station Officer or Sub Station Officer in advance. Firefighters must reside and work within a distance that allows attendance at the station within five minutes. Any change in residence or workplace must be reported to the Chief Fire Officer. Failure to comply may result in termination. The Council may request proof of availability prior to appointment. 9. Annual Leave Four weeks annual leave per year is provided. Payment for annual leave is calculated as 8 percent of earnings from the previous year, excluding retainers, clothing allowance, and leave payments. Payment is made during leave through the fortnightly pay cycle. 10. Regulations and Conduct Firefighters must comply with all rules and regulations issued by the Council. They must follow instructions from the Station Officer or designated officer during drills, incidents, or emergencies. Failure to comply may result in dismissal. Firefighters are under the supervision of senior fire service officers, including the Chief Fire Officer and other designated officers. While on duty, firefighters must use the clothing and equipment provided and must not use them outside duty. All safety policies and directives must be followed at all times. 11. Rostering Rostering arrangements will be determined by the Council. 12. Rate of Pay €16,852 to €20,251 per year

Warehouse Operative – Day Shift Pick Team (WOP27/01) Rate: £13.40 - £13.90 + Weekend Premium The successful candidates will work closely with all members of the Logistics Team to ensure the prompt despatch of customer orders. The role will involve lifting cases of product and working in a chilled environment. Responsibilities will include accurately locating and picking chilled food products to provide a high service level to the customer. You will also be responsible for receipt checking of inbound goods, checking and despatch of outbound goods, stock rotation and assisting with stock checks.
