BROTHERS OF CHARITY SERVICES IRELAND – WEST REGION POST OF: PERMANENT FULL-TIME POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT THERAPIST GALWAY ADULT SERVICES – EAST GALWAY JOB REF: 80357 The Role: The Behaviour Therapist will join the Psychology Department and use a person centred, rights based, holistic, and positive behaviour support informed approach to provide assessment and intervention services for adults with intellectual disability receiving day and residential supports from the Brothers of Charity Services Ireland – Adults East Services. A multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary approach is to be used. The purpose of this post is to support the achievement of valued roles and personal outcomes for the people we support by facilitating individuals, staff and families to understand and address needs and preferences communicated through behaviour that challenges. Objectives of the Post: Works With: Adults with complex disabilities and their families Staff in locations such as: • Residential and Respite locations • Family homes • Day centres • Any other relevant location and with other agencies. • Members of the multi/interdisciplinary team; front line staff; managers; and relevant agencies. Qualifications/Experience: An undergraduate degree in relevant health service area (e.g., psychology or nursing) as well as an accredited Masters level postgraduate qualification (MSc in ABA (NFQ Level 9)) which incorporates principles of behaviour, functional assessment, function based interventions, and applied settings (e.g., health services or relevant school settings) supervised training placements are essential. A Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) qualification or eligibility to achieve this certification is an advantage or an equivalent status in light of this (BCBA) closing in Ireland. Four years of supervised experience delivering behavior support services is desirable as is experience of working with adults with an intellectual disability, families, front line staff, and managers. A full clean Driving Licence and use of your own car is an essential requirement. Professional Knowledge: • Knowledge of developmental difficulties and disabilities and their implications for learning and behaviour. • Knowledge of positive behaviour support approaches. • Crisis Management Training knowledge (Studio 3 or MAPA) • Knowledge of when to refer and seek input from other professionals to support the person (e.g., in cases of Trauma/abuse history, mental health conditions, etc) • Knowledge of approach and models of services that minimize use of restrictive practices. • Knowledge of key service approaches such as person-centred planning and individualised service design. Skills: • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member. • Excellent communication skills. • Efficient work practices and timely completion of documentation and response to referrals Working Hours: 70 hours a fortnight based on a 5 day week. Remuneration: Department of Health Play Therapist salary scale (1st March 2025) - € 44,122 x 12 increments - €61,953 per annum. LSI € 63,154 per annum is payable after 3 years on the maximum of the scale. Annual Leave: 27 days per annum. Tenure: This post is permanent, full-time and pensionable.
