Children’s Health Ireland Fellowship Program The Department of Anaesthesia welcomes you to the Paediatric Fellowship Program at Children’s Health Ireland. We are a collegial department of dedicated clinicians, committed to providing the best care possible to children of all backgrounds. We are offering a new and unique Fellowship program, offering our Fellow exposure to all Paediatric Specialities. The successful candidate will be based at CHI Crumlin, with an option of spending time at CHI Temple Street and the Irish Paediatric Acute Transport Service. In 2026, these historic hospitals sites will amalgamate into the new Children’s Hospital. CHI CRUMLIN CHI Crumlin is a major quaternary Paediatric Hospital, in Ireland, in the vibrant city of Dublin. The hospital admits paediatric patients from all age groups up to 16 years. We are the all-Ireland Congenital Cardiac Centre and the Paediatric Oncological referral centre for the Republic. There are over 40,000 visits to our Emergency Department per annum, and many of these children will require emergency surgery. We have a 23 bed PICU, with a dedicated ECMO program. We work closely and together with the Department of Intensive Care Medicine. We conduct over 10, 000 surgical cases per year, including approximately 500 on-pump cardiac cases. Additionally, we provide sedation and anaesthesia for children undergoing diagnostic and interventional radiological procedures. Our Fellowship is mentored and divided into monthly blocks. We can create a bespoke and fluid program, considering your aims and career objectives. CARDIAC Including on and off pump cases and thoracic anaesthesia. During this rotation the Fellow will also provide anaesthesia for interventional cardiology in our hybrid catheterisation suite, cardiac MRI and attend the Joint Cardio Thoracic Meeting. Surgical procedures on ECMO and ECLS maybe encountered. ENT and AIRWAY A breadth of procedures covering routine ENT procedures such as tonsillotomy to airway reconstruction. The Fellow will be invited to EXIT procedures and any other procedures on gravid patients presenting for foetal surgery during your Fellowship. ORTHOPAEDIC SURGERY Including acute and elective surgery, complex spinal surgery, upper and lower limb reconstruction and lengthening. You will gain exposure to a wide range of regional anaesthesia techniques. GENERAL SURGERY With a high volume of neonatal surgery, urological, abdominal tumour surgery and surgery for inflammatory bowel disease. CRITICAL CARE We have a 23 bed PICU with a separate Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. We offer all forms of organ support including cardiac ECMO. Additionally, we provide anaesthetic care for acute and elective plastic surgical, ophthalmic, GI scope, dental procedures, and the interventional radiology and CT/MRI services. CHI TEMPLE STREET CHI Temple Street is the other major quaternary paediatric referral hospital in Ireland, located in the Georgian heart of Dublin’s North Inner City. It is the national paediatric centre for inherited metabolic disease, neurosurgery, nephrology including transplantation, ophthalmology, craniofacial surgery and trauma. There are 50,000 emergency attendances per year, making it the busiest Paediatric E.D. in Ireland and one of the busiest in Europe. Temple Street has a nine bed PICU and is also home to the Irish Paediatric Acute Transport Service (IPATS). As in Crumlin, the Departments of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine are intrinsically linked and the anaesthesia fellow will have the opportunity to work in PICU and IPATS if desired. Temple Street also houses a six bed neonatal HDU staffed by neonatology. There are approximately 6,000 surgeries per year performed in four operating theatres (soon to be five). Anaesthesia services are also provided for diagnostic and interventional radiology. Subspecialities encountered in Temple Street include: NEUROSURGERY The fellow will have significant exposure to both elective and emergency neurosurgery. Elective work includes major tumour resections including posterior fossa and brainstem, spina bifida surgery including management of hydrocephalus and foramen magnum decompression, neurovascular work and epilepsy surgery. Emergency neurosurgery includes myelomeningocoele closure, CSF diversion procedures and involvement in the trauma team for traumatic brain injury management. CRANIOFACIAL The fellow will obtain substantial experience in the craniofacial theatre, providing anaesthesia for procedures including cranial vault remodelling, fronto-orbital advancement, Le Fort osteotomy and monobloc advancement. There will be a significant exposure to intra-operative haemorrhage management and use of blood products. RENAL TRANSPLANT The fellow will be exposed to anaesthesia for renal transplantation as well as post-operative management in PICU. There will be exposure to general principles of immunosuppression management. OPHTHALMIC SURGERY The fellow will be exposed to neonatal ophthalmic surgery for retinopathy of prematurity and retinoblastoma. ORTHOPAEDICS The full range of paediatric orthopaedic surgery is performed. There is a high volume of spinal surgery for children with congenital disease, both inherited (including Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy and Spinal Muscular Atrophy) and those with neural tube defects. CRITICAL CARE RETRIEVAL The fellow will have the opportunity to work with the IPATS team, travelling with a consultant initially with the potential to progress to team lead for suitable cases. Additionally, we provide anaesthetic care for acute and elective paediatric surgery, ENT including airway surgery, plastics, urology, dental and radiology services. We believe the volume and breadth of our case load will provide the successful candidate with a robust and unique Fellowship. Under mentored supervision, you will gain the skill, knowledge and experience to become an expert in delivery of safe Paediatric Anaesthesia. Fellows will be expected to participate in clinical activities including provision of anaesthesia in all available specialties in rotation, under the supervision of the attending consultant. There is a gradual progression in the level of responsibility allowing the Fellow to demonstrate their ability for independent practice nearing the completion of the Fellowship. Fellows will complete a 8 week rotation on PICU including paediatric cardiac PICU. Fellows will be required to participate in the on call rota . Fellows will be required to engage in quality improvement projects, teaching activities for medical students and junior trainees and is encouraged to participate in clinical research. Contract Offered : Full-time, permanent  Working Hours / Shifts : 40 hours per week, across 5 days, including some weekends. For this position, as you may be in contact with live blood samples, you must be vaccinated against Hepatitis B or be able to get it following a successful interview stage. In line with Care Quality Commission guidelines, the successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check What does the Phlebotomist role involve? This role is responsible for ensuring customers have an excellent experience from the moment they enter our clinic, taking blood samples from both private and corporate clients. This is a varied role that may also include the following responsibilities: • Conduct comprehensive client appointments, including blood and urine sample collection, personal health measurements, and data entry into our Patient Information Systems (PIS). • Demonstrate sensitive communication to ensure client understanding and consent. • Maintain accurate records in PIS, uploading all relevant documentation. • Represent the company professionally at offsite events and appointments. • Engage in upselling and cross-selling at our private health clinic. • Proactively drive sales and exceed targets. • Complete company forms, specimen labelling, and laboratory test order forms accurately. • Demonstrate high IT literacy in order to manager various software systems and daily tasks. Essential criteria: • Previous Phlebotomy experience and certificate or equivalent training.  • Confident using IT programmes. • Flexibility with working hours, as required by the business inclusive of evenings and weekends. • Exemplary customer service skills and experience. • Ability to manage existing clientele and generate new clientele at the same time. • Valid UK driving license  Desirable: • Experience in a private healthcare setting. • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft packages. • Confidence and experience working internal / external events. • Sales / Retail experience.

What you’ll be doing: To respond to referrals for advocacy support and manage an individual caseload as allocated. To build positive and meaningful relationships with Service Users/Carers and recognising Service Users/Carers as the Expert by Experience. To assist the Service Users/Carers to explore their choices and options and support them in making an informed decision about potential courses of action without influence To provide independent advocacy to service users who are making the transition from hospital to the community.
