The vision of the service is to support people with intellectual disabilities to achieve a full and valued life in their community. Our focus is to form a relationship / partnership with each individual and their family to support people to be valued citizens in their local community and to have ordinary life experiences. We wish to create opportunities for people supported by the service to have valued social roles in their communities and to have the chance to form real friendships. Candidates will be required to be completely flexible in this position and will be required to work a variety of hours including day and night duty and programme hours as required The Role: To provide clinical nursing skills in supporting people with an intellectual disability in achieving optimum level of independence. To exhibit and maintain the highest quality of nursing practice and apply his/ her skills to ensure the physical, social, emotional needs of the persons supported in his/ her care are addressed at all times. Be responsible for the provision of nursing care and also be an informed resource for educating the other members of the staff team and other key people in the lives of the people we support. Reporting/Responsible To: Team Leader/ Service Co-ordinator / Area Manager Works With: The people supported by the services and their families and carers Team Leader and other managers Multidisciplinary staff Qualifications: A current Live Register Certificate with the NMBI (An Bord Altranais), RNID qualification is highly desirable. Candidates must have a current, clean, manual driving licence as this is an essential part of the post. Experience: Candidates must have a level of experience sufficient to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the post together with an appreciation of the needs of persons with an intellectual disability. Skills: Candidates must demonstrate: • Good judgement, discretion and confidentiality • The ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms, to communicate appropriately with the people we support and sensitively with family members. • Creative problem solving skills • The ability to work independently and seek support from interdisciplinary colleagues as appropriate. • Patience, flexibility, creativity and eagerness to become involved in a range of activities. • Ability to educate other staff and family members in positive health promotion needs • The successful candidate will be required to co-operate in a team environment with a person-centred philosophy, participate in person-centred planning, reviews, team meetings, attend and participate in training courses, and be an active member of the team. Working Hours: Up to 39 hours per week based on a 7 day/night duty roster. The successful candidate will be required to be completely flexible and will be required to work days, evenings, weekends, public holidays, night duty and programme hours to meet service needs. The successful candidate will act up for the Team Leader in their absence and also may be the senior person on duty for management cover and support to work colleagues at evenings and weekends throughout the assigned Service. The Brothers of Charity model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual. Annual Leave: 24 days per annum i.e. 9.23 hours per 100 hours worked. Appropriate service related leave will be granted after 5 and 10 years service respectively. Remuneration: Department of Health Staff Nurse salary scale (01/03/2025) - €36,919 x 11 increments - €53,340 pro rata per annum (on a pro-rata basis). Long Service Increment €54,928 per annum (on a pro-rata basis) is granted after 3 years on the maximum of the scale. Department of Health Enhanced Nurse scale (01/03/2025) - €43,872 x 7 increments - €55,093 per annum (on a pro-rata basis). Long Service Increment €56,706 per annum (on a pro-rata basis) is granted after 3 years on the maximum of the scale. As per HSE HR Circular 022/2019 – Nursing and Midwifery - the Enhanced Nurse / Midwife Practice Contract https://www.hse.ie/eng/staff/resources/hr-circulars/hr-circular-022-2019-re-enhanced-nurse-midwife-contract.pdf; once a staff nurse reaches point 4 on the Staff Nurse salary scale, they become eligible to apply for the role of Enhanced Nurse. The successful candidate will be granted incremental credit subject to satisfactory verification of previous relevant nursing service. Tenure: It is proposed to set up a locum panel of Staff Nurses who will be called if and when required to cover for staff on various leave within the Services. Probation: A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies to the post. The employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period should the employer find that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment.
