Role Summary Based in Belview in South Kilkenny the role reports to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Technician role will allow the successful candidate to gain valuable maintenance experience while supporting the delivery of the Kilkenny Cheese maintenance strategy and providing maintenance support to the production team. Typical Tasks / Responsibilities A career in arboriculture is best suited for those interested in the care and study of trees. An interest in working outdoors in a physically challenging environment is necessary, with a good head for heights, while keeping fit and learning new challenges in a continually changing environment – as every tree is unique in its own right. Arborists manage trees, hedgerows and shrubs. The work is undertaken in both rural and urban settings and includes all aspects of felling, pruning, thinning, rigging, section felling, preserving, planting and protecting trees, sometimes using heavy equipment. They also provide information and advice on specific tree-related issues. There is an increasing focus on maintaining a safe relationship between the trees, their immediate environment and the general public. The role of the Arborist is to carry out any required arboriculture works in a correct manner that meets the objectives in its environment and to industry standards. The arborist should possess the skills that enable him/her to carry out such work in a manner that doesn’t put them, their crew, or the general public at risk, nor cause damage to existing structures, while meeting required standards. On successful completion of the proposed apprenticeship, an Arborist will be able to: Knowledge Equipment RPL (Recognised Prior Learning) Applications will be assessed through RPL policy, with consultation, documentation and assessment.

We are a small company with ten staff, working together. APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM Larry Byrne Engineering Ltd we offer a wide range of training programmes, working on different machinery, vehicles and plants. The apprenticeship consists of four on the job phases with Larry Byrne Engineering Ltd and three off-the job training phases in accordance with Solas scheduling system. WHAT IS METAL FABRICATION The skills are wide and varied, skills such as measuring, marking out, cutting and welding materials. Learning how to use, care and safety operate machinery and equipment ie: Press Brake, Guillotine, Drills, Cutting etc... Welding mild steel, Aluminium , Stainless Steel, Making a livestock body from start to finish, repairing a trailer, repairing agriculture machinery and the odd unusual item. All metal fabrication will be trained in the following, working with a variety of specialised tools: Lather, Milling Machine, Grinders etc.. Assembling new machinery, dismantling repairs/make & fitting of new parts, report writing of completed work. PAY We pay all our apprentices the recommended wage set by the ETB. Review it after 3 months (A well adjusted candidate will be offered above the recommended wage.) A training allowance paid by the local ETB while the apprentices attending the off-the job training. Leaving Certificate (pre-2017) with grade D3 or higher in five subjects which must include Mathematics. Post 2017 applicants must have achieved five O6 in the Leaving Certificate which must include Mathematics Please note: If you do not meet the Maths criteria there is an Evening Maths course available to help applicants attain the required grade 2. A full award placed at Level 5 on the National Framework of Qualifications (EQF 4) which includes proficiency in Mathematics 3. Have successfully completed an approved pre-apprenticeship training course in an engineering discipline and demonstrate a proficiency in Mathematics similar to O6 in Leaving Certificate 4. In the case where an applicant is 23 years or over (or employed in the OEM sector for 3 years) and does not meet the educational requirements specified above, they may apply through the Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) process
