This position is responsible for overseeing and managing nursing staff within a designated unit, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care to all patients. The primary role of the Clinical Nurse Manager 1 in the ophthalmology area is one of clinical and professional leadership and development in the nursing team, including the development of nursing staff by means of in-service training, orientation of new staff and arranging for clinical experience and supervision of student nurses where this is appropriate. Key Responsibilities: · Be responsible for the co-ordination, assessment, planning, implementation, and review of care for service users according to BSHS standards in conjunction with the CNMII. · To manage the activities of the Ophthalmic services from initial consultation in clinic to pre assessment and discharge, liaising with consultants, nursing staff and all other health care professionals and support services. · Liaise with theatre CNMs in relation to the theatre ophthalmology service. · Managing staffing levels, fostering staff development, and promoting practice development initiatives to enhance the skills and capabilities of the nursing team. · Be responsible for the co-ordination, assessment, planning, implementation, and review of care for patients according to BSHS standards. · Maintain compliance with safety protocols, policies, and best practices in patient care. · Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to enhance patient outcomes and experience. Specifically, the role is MAU based with a view to facilitating the expansion of MAU opening in the relevant Model 2 Hospital from 8am-8pm working in consort with one other MAU physician. The consultant will also be expected to form part of the Medicine on call rota on a pro rata basis, which includes running the MAU, covering wards and receiving referrals from UHL on Weekends and Bank Holidays (1 in 5). The Consultant will also contribute to covering annual leave on a scheduled basis. The MAU has close linkages with the Acute Medical Unit in UHL and the other MAU’s in the other hospitals in the Group and is aligned to the National Acute Medical Programme. The majority of patients attending the MAU are discharged with those requiring admission, in general, being admitted to the relevant medical ward. .
