Purpose of the Role The purpose of this post is to lead and co-ordinate the established Infection Prevention and Control Nursing Team (IPCT) and will be responsible, with the DON IPC and the Consultant Microbiologist(s) for co-ordinating, providing and maintaining comprehensive IPC in the organisation. To enhance patient care by developing servicesrelating to the prevention and control of infection and to assist overall in optimising quality and continuity of care. The post holder will work collaboratively with the CNM3 in the Crumlin site (governance over Crumlin and Tallaght), to ensure that there is CNM3 cover across sites. The post of CNM3 has a pivotal role in the service planning, development, co-ordinating and managing activity and resources within the IPCT. The CNM3’s responsibilities include: - Overseeing the quality of nursing care - The development, implementation and auditing of IPC policies and procedures, based on evidence based best practice in line with national standards and best practice - The monitoring and recording of activity and delivery of agreed levels of service. - Managing the implementation of the National Standards relating to IPC, including the HIQA National Standards for the prevention and control of healthcare- associated infections. An essential role of the IPCT role is to cover the specialist area of IPC. To foster a culture of co-operation with all departments to ensure that the National Standards for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare associated infections are fulfilled (HIQA). It will be the responsibility of the CMN3 to lead the implementation, organisational gap analysis and auditing of the National Standards for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare associated infections. The successful candidate will be required to lead on and implement agreed IPC programmes. The post holder will develop, plan and co-ordinate in collaboration with the responsible clinical teams in conjunction with the CCNE training and development programmes as required.
