Consultant Radiologist
This is an appointment to HSE Dublin and Midlands Region on a Public Only Consultants’ Contract 2023 by the Health Service Executive. The initial commitment for this post will be to Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar for 37 hours per week. This post may be subject to restructuring in the future to facilitate the reorganisation of acute services in line with new clinical models of acute and community services. It is noted that the post must be congruent with the requirements of, and facilitate implementation of national health policy, the HSE’s National Clinical Programmes including commitment to deliver the relevant performance outcomes. This post is required to bring us in line with the required Consultant Radiologist staffing compliment to meet growing service demands with the installation of a second CT imaging machine and the development of a new MRI service at Regional Hospital Mullingar. The hospital currently provides a wide range of radiological services to hospital specialties and general practitioners. The key concern in changed activity levels over recent years is due to increase in overall numbers and a shift towards more complex, time consuming diagnostic investigations. The consultant's position is both clinical and organisational (in the service context). The clinical role is diagnostic, investigative, treatment and prescription, either directly or through others but involving continuing full responsibility for the treatment of patients without supervision in clinical matters. The organisational role carries service planning and resource management responsibilities at individual consultant level and at the department/unit and hospital levels. The teaching role arises from the clinical and organisational dimensions of the role and focuses on health staff training and development. Consultants will contribute to the training, education and supervision of non-consultant hospital doctors, undergraduate students and a range of clinical staff. The effectiveness of the role will be seen in the quality of care provided within the parameters of policy and the optimum use of available resources. The duties of this Consultant post will include: Non-invasive service, to include; plain radiographs, ultrasound scans including foetal growth scans and contrast ultrasound and screening for dysplasia/dislocated hips in infants and DVT diagnosis, CT scans including 24 hour consultant delivered regional stroke service scans and MRI scan Invasive service provided include: CT guided Lung nodule biopsy, US guided FNA thyroid nodules/cysts, insertion of drains, PICC lines and PEG tubes. The Consultant Radiologists also provide an advisory weekly MDT service in medicine, paediatrics and surgery which is integral to best practice
