Purpose of the Post The role of the Orderly/Security MTA is to work as part of a team in the delivery of high quality, person-centred direct and indirect care to patients/service users, under the direction of their Orderly/Security line management structure and also from Nursing, Medical and Health and Social Care Professionals. Principal Duties and Responsibilities The Orderly/Security MTA role involves: Caring: • The person holding this post is required to support the principle that the care of the patient comes first at all times and will approach their work with the flexibility and enthusiasm necessary to make this principle a reality for every patient to the greatest possible degree. • Maintain throughout the HSE an awareness of the primacy of the patient in relation to all hospital activities. • Have a working knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) standards as they apply to the role. General Duties The Orderly/Security MTA will: • Keep wheelchairs in each ward and department clean and in good repair. • Attend in-service training as required. • Work as part of a team. • Co-operate and assist with National Audits. • Demonstrate the ability to prioritise job requests. • Work in Theatre when required. • Attach and remove positioning devices to theatre tables (after training). • Perform any other duties that may be assigned appropriate to their work. • Assist ambulance personnel from time to time in patient transfers. • Provide support to Emergency Department staff in the performance of their duties. • Convey reports, pharmacy items or stores between departments. • Move furniture and beds as required. • Ensure that all portable medical gas cylinders and oxygen cylinders are in proper working order and change them as required. • Ensure that all clients and visitors to the hospital behave in a proper and dignified manner. • Carry out such security duties as assigned by the line manager or nominated deputy. • Control and restrain those who are acting aggressively or pose a threat to the safety and welfare of others. • Liaise with the Gardaí where the behaviour of persons requires Garda involvement. • Provide assistance with enhanced care. • Accompany staff whose official duties require them to leave the main hospital building and go to outlying locations in the performance of their duties. • Monitor all access and exit routes in the hospital and ensure that they remain free from obstruction at all times. • Secure the entrance and exit points to the hospital at designated times and thereafter let people in and out as required. • Monitor and control visitors’ movements, especially outside designated visiting times. • Accept responsibility for all keys to hospital premises and only issue them to authorised personnel in accordance with agreed protocols. • Control car parking to ensure that access and exit routes are kept clear at all times and designated car park spaces are occupied by those they are intended for. • Collect and transfer all monies collected from paid car parking to an authorised officer of the Board. • Check the hospital grounds and building at regular intervals and ensure that all entrances and exits are properly secured and, where not, properly secure them. • Report to the person in charge of the hospital any incidents which warrant further action, including the involvement of the Gardaí. • Carry out any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by an authorised officer of the Board. • In relation to Health and Safety, be aware of your own health and safety and that of your colleagues and others at work. • Attend training days and educational updates, particularly in the areas of lifting techniques, fire drills and in-service development. • Be aware at all times of the need for confidentiality in relation to patient care, whether ongoing or planned in the future. The CT department currently consists of multiple CT rooms. This post requires that the Clinical Specialist in CT co-ordinates the usage of these units and is responsible for correct and safe usage of the area/systems by non-Radiography staff.
