Location Crannmór Children’s Respite Children’s Services provides respite services to children up to 18 years of age who have a wide range of needs including those with autism, physical disability, medical needs and behavioural needs The Role: Support Workers provide a key-working supportive role to children. This role comprises of two main elements. Firstly the Support Worker is responsible for all aspects of personal care required by the individual child. This includes supporting children with their meals, personal hygiene and other related aspects of physical well-being, to the extent required by the individual. Secondly, a major focus of the Support Worker role is to assist and support the child through the development of Individual Plan’s and the achievement of associated outcomes, and critically, to support children in participating in the ordinary everyday life of the community through inclusive and creative thinking. Reporting/Responsible To: Senior Staff/Team Leader/ Children’s Services Co-ordinator/ Sector Manager Qualifications/Experience/Skills: • Candidates must have a good general education. A recognised qualification appropriate to the field of intellectual disability is an advantage. A QQI Level 5 or higher desirable. • Candidates must have a minimum of six months experience working in a healthcare or childcare setting. Experience working with people with an Intellectual Disability and behaviours that challenge is desirable. • A full clean manual Irish Driving Licence (Class B) is an essential requirement of this post. It may be necessary for the appointee to obtain a Class D1 Driving Licence (if not already in possession of one). Assistance may be given towards this purpose of obtaining a class D1 licence. • Fluency in verbal and written English is an essential requirement of this post. • Candidates must be able to demonstrate flexibility, communication and team-working skills, together with an enthusiasm for the post. Hygiene and HACCP The Catering Officer Grade I will: • Monitor HACCP systems on a daily basis and ensure hospital policies and statutory regulations are being implemented. • Carry out audits of areas of responsibility to ensure the Catering Department complies with all HACCP, HIQA, hospital policies and statutory regulations. • Check meals for quality, quantity and presentation. • Ensure proper portion control is observed and that meals are properly presented. • Observe and monitor work practices of staff to ensure: o Correct hygiene practices are adhered to at all times. o By keeping in close contact with workers, procedures can be discussed, updated, improved and changed where necessary. • Ensure that all staff are aware of HACCP procedures/controls and are acting accordingly. • Ensure that proper work practices are adhered to in relation to food handling and food safety. Health and Safety The Catering Officer Grade I will: • Be fully conversant with Health and Safety at Work and ensure that staff under their direct control are fully aware of their responsibilities under the law and that they comply with all safety regulations and attend all training as required. • Report on and take necessary action in the event of an accident, fire, stock damage or unfit food and complete the necessary returns and reports. • Ensure incident report forms are completed and report any accidents to the Catering Manager. • Ensure that effective safety procedures are in place to comply with the Health Safety Welfare at Work Act. • Be responsible for monitoring health and safety within the Catering Department. • Ensure that staff receive proper training in Fire Safety. • Ensure that all staff are provided with and wear full uniform and personal protective clothing including footwear. • Ensure equipment and work areas/practices are safe and that maintenance of equipment is carried out on a regular basis. • Report and take necessary action in the event of an accident/fire and ensure the completion of accident report forms etc. • Ensure that the safety statement is updated and that safety audits are performed on a regular basis. • Have a working knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) Standards as they apply to the role, for example Standards for Healthcare, National Standards for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections, Hygiene Standards etc. and comply with associated HSE protocols for implementing and maintaining these standards as appropriate to the role. • Support, promote and actively participate in sustainable energy, water and waste initiatives to create a more sustainable, low carbon and efficient health service. Senior Metabolic Dietitian In Paediatric Medicine
Purpose of the Role The post holder will work in the National Centre for Inherited Metabolic Disorders with other metabolic dietetic team members to provide a comprehensive dietetic service to individuals and their parents with inherited metabolic disorders. This is currently a service which cares for both adults and children, but some adult patients are in transition/transfer to the Mater University Hospital campus. The successful candidate may be required to work across CHI sites and services in line with organisational requirements and the development of the new children’s hospital and associated services.
