Civil Engineering Apprentices
SECTION 1: OVERVIEW With a minimum of 3,000 new civil engineers needed to ensure the successful delivery of Project Ireland 2040, the National Development Plan 2026–2035 and Climate Action Plan 2025, an alternative delivery model for civil engineering needed to be developed to entice stronger uptake of the profession. As a profession listed on the critical skills occupation list, additional approaches for recruitment in this field are needed to address challenges in the public sector. To aid in this objective, the technological university sector has engaged with the local authority sector to develop a programme where new entrants to engineering disciplines can gain suitable academic qualifications while also engaging in workplace-based learning. Cork County Council in partnership with Munster Technological University (MTU), is offering an opportunity for a civil engineering apprenticeship. This structured apprenticeship program leads to a Level 6 qualification after two years, with the opportunity to progress to Level 7 with one additional year of study. There is also a potential pathway to Level 8, offering a full progression route in civil engineering. This is an exciting new initiative, creating an alternative career path to the civil engineering profession in Ireland based on an earn and learn model. The civil engineering apprenticeship programme is planned to be transformational, and, over time, bridge the shortfall in supply of engineers in Ireland, providing those skills critical to the delivery of Project Ireland 2040. Designed to develop the skills, knowledge and competencies to meet the future needs of the industry, this programme will appeal to those seeking to build a career in civil engineering. SECTION 2: THE ROLE This apprenticeship would suit candidates with a strong interest in civil engineering, construction and infrastructure. The role provides an opportunity to combine structured academic study with practical, on-the-job learning in a local authority environment. Civil engineering apprentices will be assigned to the Capital Delivery Directorate, Housing Directorate, Planning & Environment Directorate or Roads, Transportation & Area Services Directorate. SECTION 3: TASKS / RESPONSIBILITIES The post holder may be required to perform other tasks/responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the relevant mentor or Director of Service. Additionally, apprentices will attend on-campus labs/workshops in MTU one full day (8 hours) every three weeks. During the period between June and August each year, when there are no online lectures or on-campus labs/workshops, the working week is a 35-hour week , Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All hours worked will be subject to the provisions of the Organisation of Working Time Act, 1997 and the Organisation of Working Time Act (Regulations) 2001 . SECTION 9: ANNUAL LEAVE The annual leave entitlement will be 22 working days per annum . Cork County Council's leave year runs from 1 January to 31 December . The granting of annual leave at any particular time is always subject to the requirements of the Council and all annual leave is liable to suspension during periods of exceptional work pressure. Granting of annual leave, payment for annual leave and arrangements for public holidays will be governed by the provisions of the Organisation of Working Time Act, 1997 (as amended) .

Inventory Management – administration and control of aircraft parts, technical equipment, flight operations support and supply chain activities. Auditing and Compliance – supporting technical audits and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Eligibility Requirements To apply, candidates must: · Be an Irish citizen, or have legal entitlement to reside and work in Ireland for the duration of their service. · Be of good character and capable of obtaining any required security clearance. · Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and under 39 years of age on the closing date for applications. Qualifications Candidates must hold either: A National Craft Certificate, or an approved NFQ Level 7 qualification in Aeronautical /Aerospace, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical/Electronic, or Mechatronic Engineering. For roles in Mission Support Systems, Ancillary Services, or Airfield Services, candidates must hold an approved NFQ Level 7 qualification in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related discipline such as Telecommunications, ICT, or Cyber Security. Horticulture Apprentice
Overview: Join our team at Duckett’s Grove House and Walled Gardens as a Horticulture Apprentice. This position offers a unique opportunity to learn and develop skills in a historic and beautiful setting. Responsibilities: Assisting with the cultivation and maintenance of plants, fruit, flowers, and trees within the Walled Gardens. Learning about and participating in garden design, planting, and care under the guidance of experienced head gardener. Participating in the upkeep of the grounds, including weeding, watering, and general grounds maintenance. Engaging with visitors to provide information about the gardens and horticultural practices. Qualifications: A passion for horticulture and a desire to learn and develop skills in a hands-on environment. Farm Manager Apprentice
The Farm 180 ha with 50 ha of support ground for silage. Modern facilities with 40 herringbone parlour with cup removers/acrs, 535 cubicles and a brand new calving shed. Calf facilities for every calf born on the farm with all replacements reared on a 60 ha outfarm. New paddock, water and roadways installed in the last 2 years. 40% of the farm has high levels of clover. Mixed soil type with flood plain, peaty and gravel type soils all present on the farm so ideal for drought and wet conditions. 2nd Unit in operation close by with labour shared in spring and all cows calved in the one yard. The Herd Crossbred herd calving 85% + in 6 weeks with an 6-8% empty rate after 11 weeks. EBI is €166 with all the herd and youngstock genotyped. Herd achieved 470kgs of milk solids in 2025. Grass is measured regularly with 40 measurements done a year. Censortec Collars are fitted on the cows with all AI being used with a local technician. Sexed semen is used on the top performing cows and those of high genetic merit. High DBI selective used otherwise. The Work Environment We operate a 5/2 roster in the spring and switch to 1 weekend in 3 or 10 in 4 once the bulk of the calving is finished. Milking roster set up with one milking done per day (either morning or evening) except for weekends. There are 4 full time people working with us along with part time and seasonal help. Roles are clearly defined and adhered to. The day typically starts at 7am and finishes at 5pm and we try keep these hours as much as possible even in the spring. Cows are fully dried off around the middle of December and calve the 1st of February with extra time given off over Christmas. Canteen and kitchen provided along with work wear. Breakfast is provided each day. We encourage playing sport and/or hobbies and will be flexible with time off and milkings in order to suit time off farm. The Person Enthusiastic with a love for the outdoors and working with animals. A willingness to learn and adapt to new ideas and opportunities. Someone who will work well in a team and be a good team member. There will be plenty of learning opportunities with this role and an opportunity to develop and grow.
