Salary The payscale for General Operative as per Circular Letter EL 07/2025 is: €684.25 – €765.29 per week. The salary shall be fully inclusive and shall be as determined from time to time. The rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with government policy. The holder of the position shall pay to the local authority any fees or other monies (other than inclusive salary) payable to and received by him/her by virtue of his/her position or in respect of services which he/she is required by or under any enactment to perform. Superannuation The superannuation contributions of relevant scheme will apply. Retirement Age There is no mandatory retirement age for new entrants to the public service as defined in the Public Service Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2004. Anyone who is not a new entrant to the public service, as defined in the Public Service Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2004, is subject to a compulsory retirement age of 70 years or as determined in accordance with Department Circulars and in line with Government Policy. The maximum retirement age for new entrants as defined by the Public Service Pensions (Single Scheme and other Provisions) Act 2012 is 70 years. The Council may refer staff to a medical advisor at any time to determine fitness for carrying out the duties to which they have been assigned. may not apply for this position. Hours of Work The working hours at present provide for a five day, thirty-nine hours working week. The working hours may be reviewed at any time by the Council. The post will require flexibility in working outside of normal hours, including at weekends, as necessary. All hours worked are subject to and recorded in accordance with the provisions of the Organisation of Working Time Act, 1997, and the Organisation of Working Time Regulations, 2001. Waterford City & County Council requires employees to record their hours using the CORE/TDS Clocking system. Annual Leave The annual leave entitlement for the grade is 25 days (including Good Friday) per annum. The Chief Executive of Waterford City & County Council retains autonomy with regard to organisation closures, (e.g. Christmas Closure); any days arising from such closure will be reserved from the employee’s annual leave entitlement. Proposed closure days will be reviewed and advised to all employees each year. Residence The successful candidate shall reside in the district in which his/her duties are to be performed, or within a reasonable distance thereof. Code of Conduct/Organisational Policies Employees are to be required to adhere to all current and future Waterford City & County Council codes of practice including Code of Conduct of Employees and all current and future organisational policies including, but not limited to Health and Safety, Communications, Data Protection, Equality, Staff Mobility, Attendance Management and Use of Electronic Equipment. Training Employees are required to attend and participate fully in training programmes as may be decided by the Council from time to time and to apply their learning in the course of their daily working activities. Commencement Waterford City & County Council shall require a person to whom an appointment is offered to take up such appointment within a period of not more than one month (subject to notice requirements) and if they fail to take up the appointment within such period or such other longer period as the Council in its absolute discretion may determine, Waterford City & County Council shall not appoint them. Reporting Arrangements General Operative will report directly to the General Services Supervisor or appropriate supervisor in the Section or to any other employee of Waterford City & County Council as the Chief Executive, Director of Services or other appropriate employee may designate for this purpose. A system of regular appraisal (PMDS) will be operated during employment, which will involve discussions between the employee and the line manager regarding performance and conduct. Health & Safety Waterford City & County Council as an Employer is obliged to ensure, in so far as it is reasonably practicable the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work of all of its employees. Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, the County Council has a legal duty to exercise all due care and take all protective and preventative measures to protect the Safety, Health and Welfare of its employees. The Position Meath County Council invites applications from suitably qualified persons who wish to be considered for inclusion on a panel from which permanent and fixed-term contract vacancies for the position of IS Technical Support Officer – Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Projects shall be drawn. The successful candidate will be a member of the Council’s GIS Team, which is a key pillar of the Council’s Information Systems (IS) Department. The GIS Team is responsible for managing the Council’s leading edge enterprise GIS Platform, and associated spatial data infrastructure, supporting a user base of 1,100 staff, various external groups and organisations, as well as, members of the public. The Council is now looking to add to its GIS Team in line with its expanding workload. This is an excellent opportunity to apply and build on existing knowledge and skills and to be part of an ambitious and dynamic team working with leading edge spatial technologies to define and deliver varied internal and external facing solutions of value to all the operational Directorates of the Council. Purpose, Duties and Responsibilities The duties of the post of the GIS Technician include, but are not limited to: • Maintain and update, on an ongoing basis, existing mapping and GIS datasets as required in relation to the functions of the Planning Department. • Creation, updating and maintenance of Planning GIS databases specific to the preparation, monitoring and review of the Development and Local Area plans. • Graphic production of a wide range of maps and diagrams to be published as part of the Development and Local Area plans (e.g., land use zoning, spatially defined objectives etc.) • Data collection and research for development plans. • Digitizing or sourcing of data required for mapping purposes. • Creation, updating and maintenance of the planning registers; planning applications, exempted developments, Part 8 developments, by ensuring that data entry. • Preparation of public consultation display material and assistance at public consultation. • Manage work flows and produce regular progress reports on all aspects of area of responsibility. • Provide training and support in GIS related software and systems to council staff; • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation; • Develop the use of FME software for daily tasks and innovative data translations; • Proactively monitor emerging tools, skills, techniques and technologies; • Build the capacity of the Council’s GIS Platform and Spatial Data Infrastructure to maximise opportunities presented through best practice GIS implementation and Geographical Information management; • Act as a champion by promoting GIS and associated spatial technology use within the Council for the purpose of improving decision making and introducing efficiencies; • Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time. Entry point of this scale will be determined in accordance with the appropriate Department Circulars. Hours of Work The normal working hours will be 35 hours per week. Duties may require the successful applicant to work outside of normal working hours i.e. attendance at evening/weekend, training duties etc. as part of normal working hours without additional remuneration. All hours worked will be subject to the provision of the Organisation of Working Time Act, 1997 as amended. You may be required to complete a time-sheet in accordance with the Organisation of Working Time Regulations, 2001. Start Date Meath County Council shall require a person to whom an offer of employment is made to take up an appointment within a reasonable period of time, usually two months from date of offer, to meet the organisational requirements of the Council. Meath County Council reserves the right to withdraw its offer in the event that an appointment is not taken up within such a period. Leave 30 days per annum Sick Leave The terms of the Public Service Sick Pay Scheme will prevail. This position is a senior position within the organisation. The successful candidate will be responsible for the co-ordination, preparation, monitoring, modelling, analysing and reporting on significant revenue and capital expenditure budgets, budgetary control and debtor management. They will assist in the completion of the annual financial statement, operation of the organisations financial management system and support strategic and operational planning. They will also be an integral part of the wider organisational financial discipline and will be working with multidisciplinary teams. It would suit an ambitious, qualified accountant with a range of experience dealing with multidisciplinary teams and with experience in managing and motivating staff. Duties Duties will include but are not limited to: Leading the implementation of the Upgrading of the Financial Management System to the cloud Implement a new Asset Management System across the organisation Involvement in the rollout of the procurement module of the Financial Management System Assisting in the planning, scheduling and preparation of the Annual Financial Statement in accordance with currently accepted accounting standards and relevant codes of practice as set out by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. In accordance with Departmental Circular Letter EL.02/2011, a person who is not a serving local authority employee on or after 1st January 2011, will enter the scale for the position at the minimum point. Rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government Policy. Location of post Louth County Council reserves the right to assign the post holder to any council premises, now or in the future subject to reasonable notice. Changes in location of employment will not result in payment of disturbance money or other compensation. The person appointed will be required to provide him/herself at his/her own expense with the necessary mode of travel to and from work. Superannuation A. Officers joining the Public Service after the 1st January 2013 will be required to join the Single Public Service Pension Scheme. A Class rate of PRSI contribution will apply. A rate of 3% of their pensionable remuneration plus 3.5% of net pensionable remuneration (i.e. pensionable remuneration less twice the rate of State Pension Contributory (SPC). Officers who became pensionable officers of the Public Service prior to 1st January 2013 and who are liable to pay the Class A rate of PRSI contribution will be required to contribute at a rate of 1.5% of their pensionable remuneration plus 3.5% of the net pensionable remuneration (i.e. pensionable remuneration less twice the rate of State Pension Contributory (SPC). The role of the retained firefighter is primarily to: • Save life and preserve endangered life • Protect property from damage by fire • Inform and educate awareness of safety Retained firefighters are on call to respond to emergencies. As well as responding to emergency calls, firefighters may also be involved in community fire safety initiatives. Although retained firefighters are part-time, they are fully trained and capable of saving life and property to provide a comprehensive service to the community. When a call is received firefighters are required to respond immediately. Retained firefighters must be ready to drop whatever they are doing, to become part of a team ready to respond safely and effectively to the emergency, regardless of the time of day/night or the weather conditions. The Fire Service responds to emergency calls from the public, primarily to prevent injury and protect life, but also to prevent and restrict damage to property. Many emergency calls are not to fires but to road-traffic accidents where casualties may be trapped in vehicles. The Fire Service may also be called to deal with chemical spillages and toxic emissions, etc. Firefighters need to be able to use problem-solving skills and initiative to resolve issues quickly and calmly. Firefighters also need to be able to deal sensitively and appropriately with members of the public when they are distressed, confused or obstructive. Firefighters are required to carry out routine checks, as well as cleaning and maintaining all equipment and fire appliances to ensure they work properly when required during an emergency. Firefighters are required to participate and take part in the duties as required as part of the organizational response to Climate Action to promote and ensure capacity building, empowering change and delivering action. All new recruits undergo extensive initial training, which includes a three-week Recruit Induction Course, a two-week Breathing Apparatus Wearers Course and one-week Compartment Fire Behaviour Course. Thereafter all firefighters are required to undergo a continuous development programme by attending lectures, exercises, practical courses and other forms of training to maintain competency levels. Firefighters are expected to take responsibility for developing their own skills and for ensuring that their fitness levels are maintained as the work of a firefighter can be demanding both physically and psychologically. DUTIES OF THE POSITION: • A Firefighter shall be required to attend at fires and other emergencies, drills, displays and other duties at such times and for such periods as required by the County Council. Failure to respond promptly to fire or other emergency calls will be addressed through the Local Authority’s disciplinary procedure. • Each Firefighter who attends for Fire Brigade service must be prepared to accept the work entailed and to fulfil to the best of their ability their duty as a Firefighter in the saving of life, saving of property and the fighting of fires or other such emergencies. • Every Firefighter must comply with XYZ County Council’s Crew Management Arrangements for Retained Firefighters. Firefighters who are on standby during fires or other incidents shall remain at the Station and perform such duties as may be assigned by the Station Officer from time to time during the callout. • Firefighters shall ensure that the Fire Station is kept clean and tidy at all times. Firefighting equipment shall be kept clean, maintained properly and stowed away in a safe manner. • Firefighters are required to adhere to and co-operate with all National and Local Agreements pertaining to the Fire Services. • Firefighters will be required to attend Training Courses as directed. • Firefighters must undertake driving duties as required. • Comply with all organisational policies, procedures and legislation. • Participate and take part in the duties as required as part of the Organisational response to Climate Action to promote and ensure capacity building, empowering change and delivering action. • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time. Character Applicants must be of good character and must not at any time bring the County Council and Fire Brigade into disrepute. The Council may make whatever enquiries it considers necessary to satisfy this condition. Employment will be subject to the provision of satisfactory references and Garda Vetting. Health A Firefighter shall be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. Medical Examination, etc.: Before recruitment, in order to ascertain the health of a candidate, successful applicants shall undergo such medical examinations (which may include x-ray and/or other special tests) as the County Council considers necessary. The County Council will nominate the medical examiners. The candidate must comply, at their own expense, with such remedial requirements as the County Council consider necessary. An Operational Firefighter shall: • Agree to participate in the Occupational Health Scheme for Retained Firefighters in operation by Longford County Council; and • At any time, if requested by the County Council, undergo such medical examination(s) by medical examiner(s) as nominated by the County Council; and • Attend medical examinations in accordance with the frequency set down in the Occupational Health Scheme for Retained Firefighters as issued by the (LGMA) to Local Authorities. • Any defects discovered pertaining to a medical examination will not be remedied at the County Council's expense. • Retention as an operational Firefighter will depend upon receipt of satisfactory reports by medical examiner(s) and to the general condition above as to health. • An operational Firefighter is required to maintain an appropriate level of physical fitness. Citizenship Candidates must, by the date of any job offer, be: (a) A citizen of the European Economic Area (EEA). The EEA consists of the Member States of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway; or (b) A citizen of the United Kingdom (UK); or (c) A citizen of Switzerland pursuant to the agreement between the EU and Switzerland on the free movement of persons; or (d) A non-EEA citizen who is a spouse or child of an EEA or UK or Swiss citizen and has a stamp 4 visa; or (e) A person awarded international protection under the International Protection Act 2015 or any family member entitled to remain in the State as a result of family reunification and has a stamp 4 visa; or (f) A non-EEA citizen who is a parent of a dependent child who is a citizen of, and resident in, an EEA member state or the UK or Switzerland and has a stamp 4 visa. Education On the latest date for receipt of completed application forms candidates must: • Have a good standard of education and be able to successfully undergo the training required for the post of retained firefighter. • Hold an unendorsed Class B Driving Licence. On appointment and after an interval decided by the Chief Fire Officer, firefighters will be required to obtain a Class C Licence. PARTICULARS OF EMPLOYMENT The Post Employment in the post of Retained Firefighter is part-time and pensionable. Location Persons appointed must live and work within a maximum of 8 minutes response time from time alert from the regional control centre. A maximum travel time of up to 7 minutes may be permitted (based on GPS navigation planner e.g. Google Maps or similar as determined by Longford County Council) to allow them to respond for the duration of their employment as a Firefighter. The Council retains the right to request further evidence, if required on the information supplied, for the purpose of verification of place of residence and location of employment. A Firefighter shall notify the County Council in writing of any subsequent changes of residence or place of employment. A change of residence or place of employment that would place the Firefighter outside these limits will mean automatic termination of employment. The Council will check this prior to appointment and at periodic intervals after appointment. The fire stations are: • Granard • Lanesboro • Longford • Edgeworthstown • Ballymahon The location of the residence and place of work must be acceptable to the Chief Fire Officer. A Firefighter must carry the appropriate fire service alerter at all times when on duty. A Retained Firefighter will be required to report for duty to the Fire Station in its present location or in the event of a change of location, to such new location as may be decided by the Fire Authority. Changes in the location of a Fire Station will not result in payment of disturbance money or other compensation. Letter of Release Each Retained Firefighter including the self-employed, and the unemployed if they take up employment must submit a Letter of Release from their employer stating that their employer will release them to attend fire brigade incidents and training. When a firefighter changes employment a new letter of release must be submitted to the Chief Fire Officer in advance of the change in circumstances. Compliance with National or Local Agreements Each employee must comply with all National or Local agreements as may be in force from time to time. Use of New Technology Each employee must use and co-operate with the use of any new technology that may be introduced by the Fire Authority or by the Chief Fire Officer. Driver’s Licence A recruit Firefighter shall possess a valid full current Category B Driving Licence at the time of applying for the post and ideally a Category C Driving Licence for HGV with up to eight passengers. All newly appointed Retained Firefighters will be required to obtain a Category C Driving Licence. Firefighters will co-operate with further Driver Training and will be required to drive fire service vehicles, if operationally needed. If a Firefighter has their licence suspended or removed for any reason, they must immediately inform the County Council, and it shall be dealt with through the Council’s disciplinary procedure and may result in termination of service at the absolute discretion of the County Council. All Retained Fire Personnel must hold a full Drivers Licence and any loss or suspension of same and/or the accumulation of six penalty points or more must be notified in writing to the Fire Authority within two weeks of the occurrence. Any Retained Firefighter found guilty of a criminal offence must inform the Chief Fire Officer in writing of the offence and within two weeks of conviction. The Chief Fire Officer will carry out an investigation into this matter under the Fire Service Disciplinary and Grievance Procedure. Firefighters must drive Fire Service vehicles if instructed to do so. Probationary Period of Employment Before appointment as a Firefighter, a recruit shall attend and successfully complete the three-week Firefighter Skills Training Course. Recruit Firefighters will be required to undergo and successfully complete the following recruit training programmes during their probationary period: • A three-week Recruit Firefighting Skills Course (including manual handling); • A two-week Breathing Apparatus Initial Wearers' Course; • A one-week Breathing Apparatus Compartment Fire Behaviour Course; and • Any other course that the County Council may consider necessary. Training Fees will be paid at the current hourly rate for Firefighters during training. This hourly rate is currently €23.75. Failure to successfully complete all of the above courses will result in the termination of the Firefighter’s employment. Some or all of the above courses will be held at a training facility, which may or may not be situated locally. From the date of commencement as a recruit Firefighter, there shall be a period of 12 months during which the recruit Firefighter shall be on probation. During this time the recruit Firefighter shall be continually assessed to determine his/her suitability for continued employment. Such period of 12 months may be extended at the absolute discretion of the County Council. The recruit shall not become a permanent Firefighter at the end of the period of probation unless the County Council is satisfied that the Firefighter has been satisfactory in all respects. If service is deemed unsatisfactory within the probationary period the appointee will cease to hold the position as tenure of employment is subject to satisfactory service on an ongoing basis.

The rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with government policy. 4.         DUTIES: The duties shall be such as may be assigned to the employees from time to time by the local authority and shall include the duty of deputizing for other officers of the local authority, when required, and such duties as may be assigned to them in relation to the area of any other local authority. 5.         SELECTION PROCESS: Candidates will initially be assessed to ensure that they meet the minimum specified eligibility criteria for the position. a.   Shortlisting Shortlisting may apply based on the information supplied on application forms and the requirements of the position as set out. It is expected that given the qualifications and experience of prospective applicants the short-listing requirements may be significantly higher than the minimum qualifications and experience requirements set out for the post. b. Competitive Interview Selection of candidates for appointment shall be by means of a competitive interview, conducted by or on behalf of the local authority. Persons to whom an offer of employment is made must take up duty within 1 month from the date of offer, or such extended period as the Council may agree, otherwise, the Council may decide not to appoint them. d . References/Documentary Evidence Each candidate may be required to submit as references the names and addresses of two responsible persons to whom is well known to them but not related. Candidates may be required to submit documentary evidence to the local authority in support of their application. 6.     RETIREMENT AGE : The Single Public Service Pension Scheme (“Single Scheme”) as provided by the Public Service Pensions (Single Scheme and Other Provisions) Act 2012 commenced with effect from 1st January 2013. The act introduces new pension and retirement provisions for new entrants to the public service appointed on or after 1st January 2013. Pension age set initially at 66 years; this will rise in step with statutory changes in the SPC age to 67 years in 2021 and 68 years in 2028. With effect from the 26/12/2018, the compulsory retirement age of 70 applies [Public Service Superannuation (Age of Retirement) Bill 2018]. Otherwise the retirement age of the relevant Scheme applies. It should be noted that candidates who are in receipt of a Public Service Pension and are re-hired in any paid capacity by a Public Service Body may be liable to have their pension abated. 1. THE ROLE The role of judicial assistant is to provide assistance to a judge in the carrying out of their judicial function. This includes providing assistance with court going activities, administrative and general support. Judicial assistants support judges of the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, the High Court and the Circuit Court. Duties may vary depending on the jurisdiction to which successful candidates are appointed. You may be required to assist other jurisdictions, if and when required. The courtroom is a formal setting. Court rooms may consist of loud noises, bright lighting and large crowds of people. Strong concentration is key, and the judicial assistant must be comfortable working in this setting. All judicial assistants will be given the opportunity to do the following: ·         Work with members of the judiciary; ·         Contribute to the efficient running of court and administration of justice; ·         Deepen their knowledge and understanding of how the Irish legal system works; ·         Develop know-how of court procedures, court rules and the running of various court lists; ·         Strengthen legal research and legal writing skills; ·         Learn new skills throughout the duration of their contract; ·         Build a network with legal professionals, academics, Courts Service and civil service staff; ·         Participate in competitive opportunities for career advancement both within the public and private sector; and ·         Work and travel within the various jurisdictions in the Irish Courts. 2. Key Responsibilities Court Responsibilities ·         Research matters of law which arise in the conduct of proceedings before the court and furnish a written or oral report to the judge. ·         Summarise facts, legal submissions, case law and relevant material as directed by the judge for inclusion in draft judgments. ·         Assist in research for draft judgments and/or legal queries on behalf of the judge. ·         Assist the judge with document proof reading. ·         Accompany the judge to court and remain in court during hearings to note evidence and submissions as directed. ·         Set up the bench according to the requirements of the judge. ·         Assist with the management of the judge’s official documentation (books and papers) required for court. ·         Advise the judge in advance of lists for the following week and ensure arrangements are in place for same. ·         Ensure the judge has the information required in relation to cases to include names of parties, type of case, duration of case, legal representatives and so forth. ·         Cooperate with the Court Registrar and/or other relevant Courts Service staff to support the efficient running of the court. ·         Act as liaison between the judge and the parties to litigation (if required) and ensure parties to a case and their representatives are aware of when their case will be heard and are in the right location at the right time. ·         Assist the court in compliance with the in camera rule in relevant cases and as directed by the judge. Administration ·         Manage the chambers of the judge as required. ·         Keep the judge’s diary of court and other appointments. ·         General administrative support duties. ·         Other duties as required by the judge. General ·         Assist the judge in the course of official duties. ·         Accompany the judge as required. This may involve travelling to any location in Ireland from time to time and require staying in the location for the period of that assignment. ·         Be available to the judge at all times during office hours Monday to Friday to perform whatever duties directed by the judge. ·         Be available for official duties, if required, during the evening or at weekends. This role may require overnight stays. ·         Where a judicial assistant is not required to perform duties for the judge to whom they are assigned, the Courts Service will assign other duties as appropriate. ·         Judicial Assistants are entitled to 22 days leave per year which must be taken in Court vacation and not during term. Note, the above is intended as a guide and is neither definitive nor restrictive. 3. Essential Requirements: ·         Hold (or expect to hold) at least a 2.1 in a law degree at a minimum of level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications in their final year exams or the Diploma in Law from the Honorable Society of King’s Inns . See list at the end of the booklet. Only courses on this list will be accepted; ·         A good understanding of the work of the Irish courts system; and ·         A knowledge of modern legal research methods and materials; and ·         Proven experience conducting legal research (this can include academic research or research in the course of court case preparation). The following qualifications are desirable; ·         A 1:1 in a law degree at a minimum of level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications in their final year exams or the Diploma in Law from the Honorable Society of King’s Inns ·         A professional legal qualification or post graduate qualification in law. ·         Fluency in Irish and in particular an ability to read and understand legal materials in the Irish language. 4. Assessment of applications The selection process involves three stages as follows: ·                 Determination of the candidate’s eligibility to compete based on academic achievement and eligibility to work in Ireland. ·                 A handwritten selection exercise undertaken in person. ·                 A competitive interview. If candidates are deemed ineligible to compete, they are eliminated from the competition. If candidates are deemed eligible, their application form is assessed to determine suitability to progress to undertake the selection exercise. Those who achieve a mark of 50% or above in the selection exercise will be invited to interview. Candidates must provide sufficiently detailed information that relates to their own specific experience and achievements. Responses that are generic or vague may result in candidates not being shortlisted for the selection exercise. Any information you include may be discussed should you be invited to interview. Your communication skills will be assessed on the answers you provide on your application form. The selection exercise is designed by the Courts Service and Kings Inns and marked by tutors from Kings Inns. Topics assessed include proof reading, legal analysis, drafting and legal writing. The pass mark is 50%. Achieving 50% or more in the selection exercise does not guarantee an interview as there may be more candidates eligible for interview than is required. If you receive a mark less than 50% in the selection exercise you will be eliminated. Interview: Interviews will be in person only from March to May 2026 in Dublin. Interviews will be held in batches per Jurisdiction with the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal first, followed by the High Court and then the Circuit Court. Interview boards comprise a judge and one or two members of the Courts Service. If you are interviewed for a jurisdiction, there is no guarantee of appointment to that at jurisdiction. Interviews will be structured in format, with candidates asked to provide examples of the capabilities for the role as outlined in Section 5of this document. You may be asked about the experience described on the application form or they may ask for other examples. It is anticipated the interview will last 45 minutes. You may be invited to a follow up meeting with a member of the Judiciary after your interview. To be considered for a position you must receive 50% or more in each capability.   Commencement date The start date for appointments is Monday 14 September 2026. There will be a two week orientation programme. If you are unable to start on 14 September 2026, in exceptional circumstances only you may defer your start date to September 2027.   Confidentiality Candidates can expect that all enquiries, applications and all aspects of the proceedings to the extent that they are managed by the Courts Service are treated as strictly confidential subject to the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2014. This form will be forwarded to An Garda Siochána for security checks on all Irish and Northern Irish addresses at which they resided. Enquiries may also be made with the police force of any country in which the applicant under consideration for appointment resided. If the applicant subsequently comes under consideration for another position, they will be required to supply this information again.   Other important information The Courts Service will not be responsible for refunding any expenses incurred by candidates. Prior to recommending any candidate for appointment to this position the Courts Service will make all such enquiries that are deemed necessary to determine the suitability of that candidate. Until all stages of the recruitment process have been fully completed a final determination cannot be made nor can it be deemed or inferred that such a determination has been made. Salary The salary scale for the position with effect from 1st August 2025 is €37,817 per annum . The salary will increase to €40,843 in the third and final year of the contract. New entrants to the Civil Service will be appointed to the first point of the (PPC) salary scale. The PPC pay rate applies when the individual is required to pay a Personal Pension Contribution (otherwise known as a main scheme contribution) in accordance with the rules of their main/personal superannuation scheme. This is different to a contribution in respect of membership of a Spouses’ and Children’s scheme, or the Additional Superannuation Contributions (ASC). A different rate will apply where the appointee is not required to make a Personal Pension Contribution. Salary is payable weekly in arrears by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) into a bank account of the appointees’ choice. Statutory deductions will be made from salary as appropriate by the Courts Service.   Candidates should note the salary is not open to negotiation . The rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy. Duties Appointees will be expected to perform all acts, duties and obligations as appropriate to this position (which may be revised from time to time). Probation Appointees will be required to serve a 12-month probationary period. During the period of the probation, an officer's performance will be subject to review by the appropriate supervisor(s) to determine whether the officer: (i) has performed in a satisfactory manner, (ii) has been satisfactory in general conduct, and (iii) is suitable from the point of view of health with particular regard to sick leave. Prior to completion of the probationary period, a decision will be made as to whether or not an appointee will be retained pursuant to Section 5A(2) of the Civil Service Regulation Acts 1956-2005. This decision will be based on an appointee’s performance assessed against the criteria set out in (i) to (iii) above. The details of the probationary process will be explained to each appointee by the Courts Services as the employer and a copy of guidelines on probation issued by the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform will be provided. In the event that an appointee is not considered as suitable to the position of Judicial Assistant having been assessed against stated criteria, the appointee will be notified in writing of the action to be taken. Hours of Attendance This is a fulltime post, and hours of attendance will be fixed from time to time but will amount to not less than 41 hours and 15 minutes gross per week . Appointees will be required to work such additional hours from time to time as may be reasonable and necessary for the proper performance of his or her duties subject to the limits set down under working time regulations. Annual Leave The annual leave entitlement for this post is 22 working days per year. This leave is on the basis of a five-day week and is exclusive of the usual public holidays. Annual leave, other than in exceptional circumstances, will not be granted during the legal term. Headquarters The appointee’s headquarters will be such as may be designated from time to time by the Courts Service. Generally, appointees will be based in the Four Courts or in the Criminal Courts of Justice and in other court locations throughout the country. There may be a requirement for some travel associated with this post. When absent from home and headquarters on official duty, an officer will be paid appropriate travelling expenses and subsistence allowances subject to normal Civil Service regulations.
