Staff Midwife, University Hospital
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University Hospital Kerry, provides comprehensive services for antenatal, intra natal, post natal mothers and their babies and also for women who require gynaecological procedures. The Department is closely integrated with the Regional Tertiary referral centre at Cork University Maternity Hospital in respect of clinical standards and governance. The Birth rate in 2021 was just under 1,300 deliveries. Midwifery Staff / Managers allocated to the area rotate between Fetal Assessment / Ante-natal/labour and delivery and post natal areas to ensure continuing care and midwife competence. Maternity Services at UHK are delivered within the HSE South West Maternity Directorate which is based on the principles of partnership and integration and strongly supports the involvement of the multidisciplinary team in service provision. There are four Maternity Units in HSE South West – University Hospital Waterford, University Hospital Kerry, Cork University Maternity Hospital and University Hospital Tipperary - spanning four of the largest counties in the country. Maternity Services includes Neonatology and Gynaecology as well as Midwifery and Obstetrics. The Group’s Primary Academic partner is University College Cork. University Hospital Kerry (UHK) is a Level 3 Acute teaching Hospital, providing comprehensive medical and surgical services for adults and children and maternity services to women in the surrounding catchment area. The hospital has 273 inpatient beds and 24 day beds and provides acute hospital services to a catchment area of Kerry, North Cork & West Limerick it services a population of approx. over 180,554. In addition, the Kerry area has quite a large visiting population – Bord Fáilte/ Shannon Development estimate there are approximately 2 million tourists visiting this region annually, principally during the summer months. The 24/7 Emergency department cares for 36,000 Emergency presentations average annual activity levels of approximately 13,000 Inpatient discharges, 11,000 Day Cases Presentations and 54,000 Outpatient Attendances.

Grade VII - Support Services Manager, University Hospital Kerry The Support Services Manager (Grade VII) will report to the Operations Manager/ Deputy Manager UHK. The Grade VII Support Services Manager will work closely with the Operations Manager/Deputy Manager and the wider senior hospital management team and will be a key support to all partners throughout the hospital. The post holder will be responsible for planning and implementing the safe delivery of non- clinical support services in the hospital, in compliance with current Health & Safety legislation and best practice in relation to the Health Information and Quality (HIQA) National Hygiene Standards and the Hazard Analysis at Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards for the delivery of catering services and Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA) for dangerous goods, Environmental Monitoring and Fire Safety. The position of Grade VII Support Services Manager encompasses both managerial and administrative responsibilities. The Support Services Manager will support the Operations Manager / Deputy Manager in ensuring the effective and efficient functioning of the hospital, whilst having a lead responsibility for Business and Performance Management / Improvement in Non-clinical Support Services. The role will support the UHK clinical staff in the provision of the necessary services and functions to enhance patient care and experience in the hospital and work collaboratively to ensure best practice.
