Portiuncula University Hospital provides 24/7 acute surgery, acute medicine, critical care, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology along with a 24/7 Emergency Department which had 30,283 attendances in 2023. The hospital serves the catchment areas of East Galway, Westmeath, North Tipperary, Roscommon and Offaly and has a natural referral pathway to the Midlands. Ballinasloe is the largest town in County Galway. The town has excellent junior and secondary schools and is close to the University of Galway and the Technology University of Shannon in Athlone. The town is served by public transport to the major centres. The area offers an abundance of sports, leisure and entertainment facilities. The town offers easy access to major regional centres of Galway City. The Consultant Physician in Endocrinology & Diabetes Mellitus (Lead in Integrated Diabetes Care) work commitments will include: · To lead the implementation of the alternative diabetes outpatient pathways in Portiuncula University Hospital and the East Galway/Roscommon ambulatory care hub (to include the provision of a rapid access clinic as a priority). · Promote and aid co-ordination and integration of care between primary and secondary health care and relevant social care agencies through activities such as sitting on the Local ECC Governance Group and participation in case management and multidisciplinary team meetings. · Lead out on the development of pathways and support early discharge/hospital avoidance where possible. · Contribute to the general medical hospital on-call services (1:8 rota) The Consultant in Endocrinology (Lead in Integrated Diabetes Care) will share the on call commitment (50%/19.5hours/week of PUH commitment) and cross-cover the inpatient endocrinology consult service and diabetes clinics. · Promote and further develop disease prevention in their respective specialty. · Act as an advisor on case finding mechanisms for individuals with undiagnosed diabetes. · Act as a resource and provider of diabetes expertise on public health initiatives for the local population. · Embrace service redesign as appropriate for their specialty-specific services. · To act as a learning resource and provide and promote continuing education for primary care physicians, practice and Public Health nurses and community service providers with regards to their specialty. · To work with the National Clinical Programmes, the chronic disease programmes, the ICPCD and the National Clinical Advisor and Group Lead for Chronic Disease to develop integrated care. To provide the following outpatient services: · Two Virtual Consultation clinics per week · One standard face-to face clinic per week delivered in the ambulatory care hub · One urgent clinic per week (60-90 minutes) (in the hospital setting) · One specialist-to-patient virtual clinic every two weeks · To oversee an ongoing clinical query review service to General Practitioners and Practice Nurses; this may involve direct contact between the Endocrinology Consultant, Lead in Integrated Diabetes Care and the GP/PN or alternatively pathways and FAQ protocols could be developed that would enable (for example) an Integrated Diabetes Care Nurse to be the first point of contact for the person submitting the query.

Locum Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist
Purpose of role: The newly appointed consultant will integrate with established teams at both TSCUH and OLCHC. This is a locum post, being filled to maintain current service levels. The appointee will deliver general nephrology outpatient clinics at both sites, in addition to integrating into our established specialist nephrology clinics which are run on a collaborative basis (e.g. transplant and dialysis clinics; nephro-urology; specialist nephrology follow up clinics). The appointee will play a full role in delivering inpatient ward rounds; and providing a consultation service at both sites. The appointee will take an active part in the on call rota and work with colleagues to provide comprehensive and seamless cover for paediatric nephrology at a regional and national level. Eligibility Criteria: Mandatory Professional Qualifications and Experience a) Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the specialty of paediatrics And b) Two years postgraduate training and experience in Paediatric Nephrology “The successful interviewee must be registered as a specialist in the relevant specialty on the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland, within 180 days of the day of interview and before taking up appointment. In exceptional circumstances proleptic appointments may be considered for candidates engaged in relevant training programmes. The Consultant must, at all times while continuing to hold office, continue to be registered with the Medical Council of Ireland. Documentary evidence of Medical Council Registration is required and must be produced annually to the Medical Administration Department within the Children’s Health Ireland. Central Decontamination Unit - CSSD Operatives Purpose of the Role: The role of the CSSD Operatives is to assist the CDU/EDU team in the delivery of a high quality decontamination service to the hospital, under the supervision of the Decontamination Manger, Deputy Manager and or Supervisor in the CDU/EDU. His/her primary role is to assist in the provision of sterile and/or high level disinfected instruments, endoscopes, procedure packs and materials to Theatres, Wards and Departments in a timely manner for use during clean and/or sterile procedures. The CSSD Operatives will be directed on a daily basis under the supervision of Decontamination Manager / CDU Deputy / CDU Supervisor in relation to duties and responsibilities associated with service delivery for that day. The management team will decide which area or duties they will allocate to the CDU Technician for that day or part thereof. The CSSD Operative must ensure confidentiality for all patients and maintain and promote good working relations with all users of the CDU/EDU service.
