Adult Literacy Organiser
Job Purpose: Under the responsibility of the FET Director and reporting directly to the Adult Education Officer (AEO), the Adult Literacy Organiser (ALO) will have responsibility leading and managing specific Adult Education (part-time) programmes and services within designated area of MSLETB. S/he will be responsible for developing, communicating and implementing actions in order to achieve MSLETB’s FET Strategic targets under the National FET Strategy (2026-2030). Key Duties / Areas of Responsibility of ALO Leader of teaching and learning: • Develop and maintain an ethos appropriate to adult learning. • Promote effective teaching, learning and assessment strategies across the service. • Recruit, assess and place learners to appropriate learning groups or one-to-one situations. • Organise and/or support the delivery of initial and ongoing training and development for staff including volunteers. Leader of People and Teams • Plan, develop and manage the provision of basic adult education in consultation with the AEO/Director of FET. • Support, motivate and manage tutors and learners. Performance manage staff, set clear expectations, provide regular feedback and monitor and control activity. • Assist the AEO in the promotion of ongoing staff development and in the identification of the staffing needs of the service. Environmental Awareness Officer
The Role Mayo County Council is advertising for the creation of a panel for the position of Environmental Awareness Officer from which future relevant temporary and permanent vacancies may be filled. The successful candidate will assist the Council with its waste management obligations, climate action and environmental goals through education, awareness campaigns, administration of funding, advocating for conservation and sustainability. The Environmental Awareness Officer will promote and support good environmental management and climate friendly practices in homes, schools, communities, tidy towns and commercial and industrial sectors. This involves delivery and development of initiatives, campaigns and education programmes, public information sessions, newsletters, website content, social media, radio interviews, policy and administration of funding. The role will require the successful candidate to hold an in depth knowledge of Local Government legislation and the science underpinning environmental policies. Furthermore, the role requires a clear understanding of local government structure and services, and its key stakeholders and relationships. The Environmental Awareness Officer will sit within the Environment and Climate Change section of Mayo County Council. The successful candidate will be required to travel throughout the administrative area of the authority and beyond, and duties may involve working out of normal office hours. Project Worker
Role The role has two specific areas in which the post holder will work: Family Support Practitioner Project Worker for refugee families from Ukraine and families seeking international protection living in International Protection Accommodation Services accommodation centres across Laois and Offaly, to support the pathway for integrated community based child and family support services. Two days per week Families and children within the Tullamore catchment area in the Barnardos Centre in Tullamore.
