General Operative
Reporting Relationship The post holder will: The General Operative will work under the direction and control of the Foreman, Maintenance Officer, Maintenance Manager or such other officers as the Health Service Executive may designate. A panel may be formed for from which current and future permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full time or part time duration may be filled. Purpose of the Post Maintenance Department Function The Function provides a range of professional, technical, project management, property, fire and safety and related services in respect of the procurement, development, operation and maintenance of the health service’s physical infrastructure - including buildings, plant and equipment. In this respect the maintenance function oversees the maintenance and infrastructural safety of the facility. The Maintenance Department manage the development and maintenance of the facilities in Cavan Hospital and Monaghan Hospital. This involves all buildings and their associated mechanical and electrical systems and the grounds of the premises. The facilities are managed in a manner that ensures a safe working environment for patients and staff. National regulations and best practice are employed to ensure that the highest standards of engineering are achieved. The Maintenance Department works closely with HSE staff to ensure that the optimum conditions are created for patient care. The Department consists of Buildings & Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Officer, Foremen, craftsmen, operatives, gardeners and clerical staff. Remuneration The Salary scale for the post (as at 01.03.2025) is: €35,195, €37,039, €38,147, €38,905, €39,562, €40,412, €40,931, €41,815, €42,723 New appointees to any grade start at the minimum point of the scale. Incremental credit will be applied for recognised relevant service in Ireland and abroad (Department of Health Circular 2/2011). Incremental credit is normally granted on appointment, in respect of previous experience in the Civil Service, Local Authorities, Health Service and other Public Service Bodies and Statutory Agencies. Working Week The standard working week applying to the post is to be confirmed at Job Offer stage. HSE Circular 003-2009 “Matching Working Patterns to Service Needs (Extended Working Day / Week Arrangements); Framework for Implementation of Clause 30.4 of Towards 2016” applies. Under the terms of this circular, all new entrants and staff appointed to promotional posts from Dec 16th 2008 will be required to work agreed roster / on call arrangements as advised by their line manager. Contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8am-8pm over seven days to meet the requirements for extended day services in accordance with the terms of the Framework Agreement (Implementation of Clause 30.4 of Towards 2016).
