Infrastructure Officer

Job Purpose: The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Infrastructure and Cyber Security Lead in the implementation, management and monitoring of all technical solutions within the College IT Infrastructure and Network systems, including crossover to Cyber Security systems. Each post holder is expected to contribute to both key areas of Operations and Projects. Location: The post location will be confirmed with the successful candidate. Due to the nature of work within the College, it is anticipated that travel to all campus sites may be required. Main Duties and Responsibilities: To support the Infrastructure and Cyber Security Lead on the design, installation, configuration, management and monitoring of the College Network Infrastructure, and its network circuits, such as: • Wired Network Infrastructure including switches • Circuits internal and external for Data and Telephony • Wireless Infrastructure including Access Points • External DNS and Protections • Certificate Management and Services To support the Infrastructure and Cyber Security Lead on the design, installation, configuration, management and monitoring of the College Server Infrastructure (on-premise and cloud), such as: • Physical and virtual server systems both Windows and Linux based • VMware and Hyper-V virtual environments • Storage SAN and NAS systems • Network switches • Cloud based infrastructures, including Microsoft 365, Azure, etc. • Database Solutions • Application Services • Data Backup/Archive Systems • MS Windows services, e.g. Active Directory, Print Management, Group Policy Management, Web Services, etc. • Federation Services • Automatic Image and Software Deployment systems e.g. SCCM • System & Network Security Systems To support the Infrastructure and Cyber Security Lead on the design, installation, upgrades, configuration, day-to-day maintenance and testing as required for both hardware and software elements of the network. To support on fault resolution for all elements of the College infrastructure and network systems, including identifying root cause of any issue and preserve logs and information for any investigation or forensics. To ensure that all aspects of the College infrastructure and network systems are documented fully, including operational procedures and regular reviews conducted. To ensure the highest level of system performance and availability through effective planning and management with use of appropriate tools. To monitor and report on all aspects of network usage to include quality of service and bandwidth utilisation. To enable and manage all College remote access systems for appropriate users in a robust and secure manner to incorporate MFA for all such systems. To ensure that all systems, including both configurations and data, have robust backup, reporting, restore and testing procedures in place. To work with the Infrastructure and Cyber Security Lead to ensure appropriate technical procedures and policies are in place for all College devices. To keep fully updated with current legal and industry standard requirements, current technologies, and threats to protect against. To assist the Infrastructure and Cyber Security Lead in the development, review, implementation and testing of the College’s Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans, and to monitor systems and respond to incidents. To conduct regular reviews, and participate in College audit arrangements ensuring appropriate IT compliance procedures are in place for infrastructure and network systems. To support the Infrastructure and Cyber Security Lead on procurement and contract management for equipment and services within your area of responsibility. To participate in training delivery as required and to organise and provide appropriate training in relation to all aspects of the area of responsibility. To deputise for the Infrastructure and Cyber Security Lead where appropriate. Proven ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to a range of stakeholders.
