Respiratory Physiologist, Senior There are currently two permanent whole-time posts available in the Pulmonary and Sleep Diagnostics Department in Naas General Hospital. A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign for Naas General Hospital from which current and future, permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration may be filled. Informal Enquiries Ms. Ann Marie O’Connell Senior Respiratory Physiologist, Pulmonary Diagnostics Manager Tel: 045 849554 Email: annmarie.oconnell1@hse.ie Purpose of the Post To provide quality diagnostics, management and development of a highly skilled pulmonary and sleep diagnostic service to departments of Naas General Hospital and at allocated Hub/s. The main purpose of this role is to provide services for the integrated chronic disease programmes. This model of care supports people to live well within the community, with ready and equitable access to General Practitioner (GP) review, diagnostics, HSCP input and specialist opinion, as required. The focus is to provide diagnostics in a timely manner as close to home as possible. The post holder will provide pulmonary and sleep diagnostic services for the ECC Integrated Chronic Disease Management Programme for GP’s and Chronic Disease Ambulatory Care Hub/s and will be situated in Naas General Hospital in the first instance but will be required to provide clinical sessions in ambulatory care hubs. The Pulmonary and Sleep Diagnostics Service is a consultant led service supported by Clinical Nurse Specialists, Respiratory Physiologists and administrative supports. Under the general direction of duly authorised Officers, the Physiologist will undertake the duties appropriate to a Respiratory Physiologist, subject to the supervision of the Senior Respiratory Physiologist. The Physiologist should be familiar with the techniques and range of equipment used in current medical practice for the diagnosis, treatment and care of respiratory patients. The Physiologist may be required to work daytime flexible hours in order to deliver patient oriented service. Requirements in this area include the ability to handle sick patients, with sympathy and understanding, and at the same time encouraging maximum effort from them when carrying out pulmonary function tests. The presentation of test results is also the responsibility of the Physiologist. In addition, the holder of this post will be required to carry out and participate in a wide range of medical procedures. A complete understanding of all such procedures and an ability to make accurate measurements is essential. Eligibility Criteria 1. Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc. (a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition: (i) Possess the BSc in Clinical Measurement from Dublin Institute of Technology. Or (ii) Possess the BSc in Clinical Measurement from Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin). Or (iii) Possess an equivalent relevant scientific qualification (Level 8) as confirmed by the Irish Institute of Clinical Measurement Science (IICMS). Or (iv) (a) Possess the Certificate in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement (MPPM) from Dublin Institute of Technology. Or (b) An equivalent scientific qualification as confirmed by the Irish Institute of Clinical Measurement Science awarded in or before 2005. (See Note 1*) And (b) Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years satisfactory relevant post qualification experience. (c) Candidates must have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the function of the role. 2. Health Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. 3.
