Job Title: Instructor – Plumbing Apprenticeship Capacity: Permanent Reporting To: Assistant Manager Section: GRETB Training Centre Function of Job: To impart theoretical and practical instructions to the standards set out in the Standards-Based Apprenticeship for Plumbing or other roles as assigned by management. Duties/Responsibilities: • Instruct the participants in all aspects of the Standards Based Apprenticeship i.e. practical skills, personal skills, maths, science, drawing, related theory to prescribed standard and in accordance with the relevant syllabus. • Prepare lesson plans, course notes, overheads and handouts as appropriate. • Schedule, conduct, correct and mark assessments/tests in accordance with the relevant assessment programme and carry out associated administrative tasks. • Provide appropriate additional instruction and schedule, conduct, correct mark repeat assessments in accordance with the prescribed repeats procedure. • Supervise participants and ensure that correct methods, quality standards and safety procedures are observed. • Maintain prescribed course records. • Supervise participants and ensure that correct methods, quality standards and safety procedures are observed. • Supervise participants in respect of their time-keeping, attendance, behaviour and general application of the participants to the course. • Prepare and issue progress reports to the employer in respect of each participant. • Ensure adequate security of tools, equipment, machines and materials located in the training area. • Ensure that equipment and machines are maintained in accordance with the manufacturers recommended maintenance schedule. • Plan and ensure the timely delivery of all course materials and non-capital tools and equipment. • Raise Requests for Purchase for the supply of course material and non-capital tools and equipment. • Ensure that course materials are used in an economical and cost effective manner. • Use new technology, as appropriate, to assist in delivering and administering training. • Undertake such other duties as may be assigned from time to time. • This list is not an exhaustive list and you may be required to take on other task and duties for the proper and effective performance of your role. Essential Requirements The following are essential requirements for appointment to the post: • Leaving Certificate or its equivalent. • Practical and Theoretical qualifications in Plumbing to senior trades, Craft Certificate qualifications or higher. • Articulate, with the ability to communicate the relevant course information in a manner designed to motivate the learner. • Experienced in work related administrative skills (e.g., estimating, ordering materials, quality systems). • Supervisory experience. • Excellent oral and written communication skills. • Excellent ICT and administration skills. • Willingness to work flexible hours outside of normal business hours. • Full clean driving licence and access to a car. Desirable Requirements • Post National Craft Certificate level Technical Qualification. • Train the Trainer Qualification or its equivalent. • Experience of manual metal arc (MMA) welding processes. • A qualification at Level 7 on the National Framework of Qualifications or its equivalent or higher in Education and Training. • A recognised Teaching/Training Qualification in Maths, Science and Technical Drawing. • Qualification in Health and Safety. • Experience in Teaching/Instructing/Training. • Knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation within the industry. • Good knowledge of GRETB activities. • Have a knowledge of modern training methods. • Ability to work as part of a team. • Having the necessary coping skills to deal with conflict, motivational and disciplinary problems associated with training. • An understanding of relevant developments in Further Education and Training relating to this area of work. • General Public Sector knowledge relevant to this area of work. • Ability to assess the learner’s progress in training and ability to assess their effectiveness in passing on skills and knowledge to the learner. Conditions of Service Term of Appointment: Permanent Post: This post is whole-time, pensionable and permanent. A panel may be formed from which future relevant vacancies may be filled. Any such panel formed shall be six months in duration. Remuneration: €46,067- €72,686 (including two long service increments). Starting pay will be dependent on an applicant’s post-qualification experience. Salary is not subject to negotiation. Hours of Work: A 35 hour week is in operation. Hours may be adjusted from time to time under relevant Public Sector Agreements. Annual Leave: The Annual Leave entitlement for this post is 25 days per annum.
