How to write a job description on JobAlert.ie - guidelines to follow

If you are about to advertise a job on JobAlert.ie but are unsure about how to begin - just follow our step by step guidelines to writing a great job advertisement.

How to write your job advertisement:

We understand that there is some work involved with the below suggestions, but please trust our process. From our years of experience, we know that including this information will give you the very best chance to fill the open job vacancy. That is our absolute mission here.

1. Job title: We recommend using the most common title for the position. The more common the job title, the more likely it will be searched on our website, so we recommend staying away from fancy and obscure titles. This will guarantee more qualified candidates will find your job advertisement.

2. Location: Enter the exact location of the job. This will go a long way in attracting candidates who live within a commutable distance.

3. Job description:

- Duties and responsibilities: There needs to be more information about the duties and responsibilities of the job. Please give as much information about what the role entails.

- Experience required: To help filter out any unqualified candidates please specify the number of years’ experience required in order to apply for the job.

- Information about the company: The job description is a fantastic opportunity to sell your company to great candidates. Please include information about your company which may include the company’s history, any recent and exciting news, plans for the future, the type of culture at your organisation, etc.

4. Salary: From our data, including a salary range will attract more qualified candidates - especially from those who are currently employed (passive jobseekers). We strongly recommend including a salary range in your job advertisement.

5. Perks/Benefits: Does your company offer any additional benefits? This could even be information relating to potential promotional opportunities in the future, a chance to work with a growing/innovative company, work from home options, finishing early on Friday’s, Flexi-time, etc.

6. Working hours/Contract on offer: Please include information about the working hours along with the type of contract that will be awarded to the successful candidate.

7. How would you like to receive applications? Option one will be an email address. Selecting this option will direct CV applications to an email address of your choice. You will also be able to view, organise and manage all candidate applications by signing in to your JobAlert.ie employer account.

There is also an option to direct candidates to apply on a careers page or website of your choice. Simply leave the email address option blank and enter in the website under the external application link option.

8. Company images: Can you supply us with any staff or company photos that we can then use to help promote the job on social media? Please email them to Louise@jobalert.ie.

We are looking forward to helping you fill the job vacancy.
