Experienced Aran Hand Knitters Required

An Irish company based in Cork is urgently seeking experienced Aran Hand Knitters to help them complete an order of Aran hand knitted Hats, Scarves, Jumpers and Cardigans for a company in America for Autumn/ Winter 2021.

All you need is your own needles, all wool will be supplied.

This work is not limited to this year, if you are successful, more work is envisaged for 2022.

The Hand Knitted Aran was made popular again recently by Taylor Swift enjoying a revival on an unprecedented scale in the US.

When Taylor Swift dropped her album Folklore in July, its title and the Aran jumper she wore for an accompanying photoshoot were a combination calculated to signal authenticity. But Swift was not the first musical artist to use the garment to bolster such a message. In the early 1960s, Irish musicians the Clancy Brothers, who emerged in the hip Greenwich Village folk scene that would also make Bob Dylan, famously wore Aran jumpers on the Ed Sullivan Show.

The garment signals both heritage and modernity, the hand-knit is made from báinín (undyed yarn) and was first made for the islanders’ fishermen.

The jumpers became a favourite for American visitors, they'd buy them in the dozen on their visits to Ireland.
