Health Care Assistant Maternity Services, University Hospital
Cork University Maternity Hospital (CUMH) is a 150 bedded Tertiary Referral Centre for Maternity, Neonatology and Gynaecology located on the campus of Cork University Hospital. CUMH incorporates the Obstetric, Gynaecology, and Neonatology Services in the Cork University Hospital Group within the Health Service Executive Southern region. CUMH has approximately 7,000 births per annum and is a tertiary referral centre. Services at CUMH are delivered within HSE South West Women & Infants Directorate which is based on the principles of partnership and integration and strongly supports the involvement of the multidisciplinary team in service provision. CUMH is the site for clinical placements for student midwives and student nurses in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes delivered in partnership with University College Cork. CUMH Services incorporates the use of the MN-CMS (Maternal Newborn Clinical Management System) into care delivered at CUMH. There are four Maternity Units in HSE South West - University Hospital Waterford, University Hospital Kerry, Cork University Maternity Hospital and Tipperary University Hospital - spanning four of the largest counties in the country. Maternity Services includes Neonatology and Gynaecology as well as Midwifery and Obstetrics. The Group’s Primary Academic partner is University College Cork. A wide range of educational programmes and research is conducted within all hospitals in the Group. Purpose of Post The Health Care Assistant (Maternity Services), as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, supports, assists and complements the role of the midwife, in the provision of safe, effective, quality care to women and babies. The Health Care Assistant in maternity service works under the supervision of a Registered Midwife. The Health Care Assistant in Maternity Services will assist the midwives in the care of women and their babies and undertake other duties, and communicate with others as has been delegated to him/her by a registered midwife. The National Maternity Strategy (2016) puts the needs of mothers and babies at its center by ensuring women have access to safe, high quality, evidence based maternity care. This will be done by facilitating choice for women in so far as it is safe to do so. ‘Health Care Assistants provide assistance, support and direct personal care to mothers and their babies in the healthcare settings. They generally work in support, or under delegation, direction and supervision, of health professionals. Job Purpose: The purpose of the Medical Secretary Grade IV is to provide an exceptional and comprehensive support service delivery within the various Departments and Directorate in consideration of Patient Care and the departmental Administration Team. Quality & Patient Safety Manager
The Quality & Patient Safety Manager will have leading responsibility for quality and patient safety at OLHN. They will support and deputise (as required) for the Hospital Manager in ensuring the safe, effective and efficient functioning of the hospital. Quality and Patient Safety The post holder will support the Hospital Manager and Clinical Director in achieving excellent standards in clinical governance. They will be responsible for day-to-day management of clinical risk and quality care, having emphasis on sound operational performance and service improvement. The post holder will demonstrate In-depth knowledge of hospital clinical and business processes with a strong emphasis on high quality care, cost efficiency and effectiveness and lean processing. They will co-ordinate the Quality and Patient Safety Agenda in the Hospital and be accountable for the organisational achievement of conformance and performance with internal and external compliance requirements. This will entail developing, delivering, implementing and evaluating a comprehensive quality and safety programme with associated structures, policies and processes involve supporting the implementation of the HSE Risk and Incident Management Policy and guidance, including; · Oversight on the management of the Hospital’s risk evaluations and processes and ensuring effective clinical Incident management structures, monitoring systems, policies and processes are developed and maintained. · Driving core programmes of work in quality, safety and risk management, including: implementation of the HSE’s Patient Safety Strategy 2019 – 2024, clinical effectiveness, clinical audit, service user involvement; risk management, complaints, incidents/serious incidents, patient safety and service improvement. · Overseeing the management, review and continual appraisal of the corporate risk register for Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan. · Ensuring regulatory compliance, addressing any gaps/potential gaps in service provision identified by regulators/legislative bodies. · Leading out and advocating all issues relating to patient safety, patient experience and incident reporting/follow up with a clear design/strategy in place to quality assure and quality improve · Participate as a member of the Senior Hospital Management Team at OLHN and be expected to contribute to the operational management of the Hospital. · Support the Hospital Manager, Director of Nursing, Clinical Director, Consultants, Nurse Managers and Department Heads in establishing a proactive Quality & Patient Safety culture. · Be responsible for the staffing resource within the Quality & Patient Safety function.
