The SLRON Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) was established in 2002 with a start-up grant from St. Luke’s Institute of Cancer Research and core funding from the Health Research Board under the Ireland/Northern Ireland/National Cancer Institute Clinical Trials Initiative. SLRON CTRU is located across three sites: The CTU strives to introduce the latest technologies and techniques for the benefit of patients on a basis of sound evidence. It manages all approved clinical trials taking place in SLRON. It provides core administrative services including regulatory and ethical submissions, data management and statistical support. The CTU also supports trial development and publication preparation. SLRON supports the recruitment, retention and motivation of staff who will drive the development of quality services. Research is multi-disciplinary and engages professionals from a variety of backgrounds, from basic science through to translational, clinical and health services research. The CTU is a multidisciplinary team which includes medical, nursing, physics, radiation therapy, statistics, data management and administration staff. The CTU provides a range of services and supports all aspects of clinical research from concept through to analysis and reporting. The CTU also engages with a number of academic institutions, pharmaceutical and international collaborative research groups. The CTU is strongly involved in supporting The Irish Research Radiation Oncology Group (IRROG). IRROG is a newly established collaborative group which aims to unite the five HSE radiotherapy centres under a common research function. The current vacancy is that of a 2 year Specified Purpose, wholetime Grade VII Biostatistician. This post will be located at St. Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network (SLRON) at St. Luke’s Hospital, Rathgar.
