The individual will undertake the academic preparation and develop the clinical and leadership skills, competencies and knowledge required to meet the criteria to be registered as a RANP with NMBI. The scope of the cANP role must reflect the incremental development of expertise and as such, the cANP cannot deliver care as an autonomous practitioner. The individual will complete and submit the necessary documentation for registration as an RANP with NMBI. The value of the nursing contribution as a distinct profession must be safeguarded and articulated in the development of new services led by advanced nurse practitioners, complementing rather than replacing current services delivered by doctors (NMBI, 2017 p.9). The overall purpose of the post is to provide safe, timely, evidenced based nurse-led care to patients at an advanced nursing level. This involves undertaking and documenting a complete episode of patient care (assess, diagnose, plan, treat and discharge patients) according to collaboratively agreed protocols and scope of practice in the clinical setting demonstrating advanced clinical and theoretical knowledge, critical thinking, clinical leadership and decision making skills. The advanced practice role demonstrates a high degree of knowledge, skill and experience that is applied within the nurse-patient/client relationship to achieve optimal outcomes through critical analysis, problem solving and accurate decision making (NMBI, 2017). Central to this is the provision of quality care, a safe environment and processes for patients by the use of evidence based clinical guidelines that address patient expectations, promote wellness and evaluate care given. The role will provide clinical leadership and professional scholarship in order to develop nursing practice and health policy at local, regional and national level. The role will contribute to nursing research to shape and advance nursing practice, education and health care policy at local, national and international levels. The role of the cANP Interventional Neurovascular Radiology Services The cANP INR service will provide support and care to patients presenting with Intracranial Aneurysm requiring endovascular treatment, and for Thrombectomy for Ischaemic stroke through the Interventional Neurovascular Radiology service. The cANP INR Services will collaborate in providing care to patients accepted under INR services within the emergency department or adjacent units that potentially require assessment for progression to a more conservative treatment plan The cANP INR service will compliment and contribute to the overall care provided by the INR service by working collaboratively with MDT colleagues, as well as contribute to the planning, organising and continuous improvement of the quality of care experienced by patients to improve clinical outcomes. The cANP INR service will provide expertise and specialist nursing services and support to patients undergoing INR procedures, assisting in the clinical pathway through the procedure room, while also contributing to the expansion of the transradial approach in neurointervention and the establishment of new or emerging techniques and treatments focused on improving patient outcomes. The cANP INR service will participate in the consultation and review of patients being reviewed by the INR consultant, including maintaining an electronic database of patients with intracranial aneurysms referred to the INR service. This will also include ensuring the relevant data is uploaded to the applicable local, regional and/or national databases. The cANP INR service will participate in the in assessment, intervention and follow up of the patients being considered for emergency thrombectomy by the Interventional Neurovascular Radiology Service as required. The cANP INR service will take the lead in developing an ANP led outpatient clinic (both in-person and virtual consultations) under the supervision of an INR consultant. This role will ensure the careful assessment and coordination of patients with intracranial aneurysms that are not for immediate endovascular treatment but require close supervision. The cANP INR Services will work in conjunction regionally with cANP's/ RANP’s from other service sites in the delivery and support of clinical care to patients.
