First Year Apprentice Vacancy Machine build is a highly technical craft role that is crucial to the success of producing the company’s high quality automation equipment for use in the Medical Device and Pharma industries. This is an exciting opportunity for an apprentice to work as part of the engineering project team. You will have the opportunity of working with leading edge automation technologies such as robotics, vision systems, drives, controls systems etc. It’s a hands on role that involves the mechanical and electrical assembly and debug of complex machines. The role contributes significantly to the continued success of Ward Automation. Responsibilities • Working from the design drawings to perform the mechanical and electrical assembly of bespoke machines. • Mechanical, electrical and pneumatic debug of machines. • Liaise and communicate with the different project team members. • Responsible for the quality of the build. • Responsible for ensuring that machine build timelines and targets are achieved. Key Skills • Ability to interpret electrical, mechanical and pneumatic drawings. • Capable of clearly understanding the functionality of the equipment being built. • Ability to troubleshoot and develop creative solutions both mechanically and electrically. • A high degree of craft skill with the ability to setup machines to fine tolerances to produce the desired results. • Excellent communication skills. • Proficient computer skills in MS office, experience with mechanical and electrical CAD software is an advantage.

All applicants will need to be based in our Head Office in Sligo to take part in this career-defining opportunity. This four-year programme combines valuable hands-on experience (4 days per week) with structured academic learning (1 day per week). You will gain industry insights from our team of experienced professionals, benefit from mentorship and earn a recognised qualification aligned with the National Framework of Qualifications, all while earning a salary. We welcome applicants who meet the following criteria: • Leaving Certificate or equivalent, including a Pass in Mathematics at Level 5 • Anybody with qualifications in Civil Engineering or a similar discipline up to and including Level 7 • Strong communication, literacy, and numerical ability • Proficient with computers and IT systems • Positive attitude and strong willingness to learn in a team environment What You’ll Be Doing As an apprentice, you'll gain exposure to a range of tasks and responsibilities, including: • Supporting senior engineers on diverse projects • Observing and assisting with projects under the guidance of Project Managers • Involvement in all project phases, from planning through to construction stage delivery • Collaborating with internal teams, sub-contractors and site personnel to meet deadlines, budgets, and quality standards • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations • Applying engineering knowledge in real-world settings with the support of your mentor • Participating in client and design meetings with senior colleagues • Assisting in the efficient use of resources and implementation of cost-effective practices • Regular communication with engineering and construction teams to stay aligned with project goals • Conducting site visits, surveys and other technical tasks to support project execution • Performing additional duties relevant to the role and learning level as required This apprenticeship is an excellent stepping stone toward a successful career with a leading Civil & Structural Engineering Consultancy firm.
