Our Service - BreastCheck (The National Breast Screening Programme) BreastCheck – The National Breast Screening Programme - plays a central role in diagnosis and management of breast cancer in Ireland, providing free mammograms every two years to women aged 50 to 69. Survival has improved because of screening, symptomatic detection and improved treatment options. As a Mammographer, you will be closely involved with both the quality of the outcome of the service and each woman’s satisfaction with the service. BreastCheck has 4 screening units in hospitals and 24 mobile clinics across the country. Life as a Mammographer (Senior Radiographer) You'll be part of a multidisciplinary breast screening team and be responsible for the monitoring and quality assurance tests for specialist mammography equipment to ensure that it's used safely within set parameters. Mammographers play an important part in early cancer detection by producing high-quality mammograms to identify signs of cancer. How to become a Mammographer (Senior Radiographer) Mammographers are CORU-registered Radiographers with 3 years full-time (or an aggregate of 3 years) post-qualification clinical experience. PostGraduate Mammography Qualification: Radiographers in BreastCheck will hold or be in training for a recognised postgraduate qualification in mammography and will achieve the award within one year of taking up a post with the programme. Appointed candidates must undertake a 1-year specialist Post-Graduate Qualification in Mammography if they are not currently in receipt of this qualification. Training will be supported and financed by National Screening Service . The aims of a specific course of study in mammography are to develop a high level of practical expertise in mammography; a sound theoretical knowledge of breast imaging, diagnosis and treatment; and critical evaluation and judgement skills. These outcomes will enable the radiographer to become a skilled practitioner of mammographic technique and an active member of the multidisciplinary team. 1. THE ROLE This role provides support to the judiciary, staff and members of the public who attend Kilkenny Court Office. 2. Key Responsibilities Duties carried out by Service Officers include, but are not limited to: · Facilitate the smooth running of reception areas - the Service Officer will be required to carry out reception desk duties that involve dealing with queries and deliveries from colleagues and visitors, both in person and by telephone, in a prompt and courteous manner. · Be part of the customer service for the courts service as often you are the first interaction the public will have with the Courts Service. · Collection, sorting and delivery of internal and external mail to include letters, parcels, newspapers, periodicals, etc. · Key-holder duties including opening and locking of office/courtrooms in the morning/evening/throughout the day, attending to alarm call-outs* · Covering of duties within Kilkenny Court Office to include opening and closing of building if requested to do so. · Monitoring repairs and similar issues and liaising with relevant contractors. · Maintain log of attendees/contractors in building. · Assist with maintaining our buildings including the raising of relevant tickets, where appropriate, to ensure issues are identified and resolved. · Be familiar with functions and business of the Courts Service. · Wear a uniform if supplied and to always maintain a clean and tidy appearance. · Management of deliveries of goods/supplies. · Perform such other duties as may be directed by the Combined Office Manager as appropriate. · Be part of the fire evacuation team, to perform weekly fire alarm testing if required and assist in the event of a fire with the evacuation procedures · Performing Court Assistant duties, including but not limited to: directing court users to their designated seats, ensuring fire exits remain clear and unblocked, · Assisting in security incidents by coordinating with court Gardaí, including contacting them directly if the registrar is unavailable. · Working closely with Combined Office Manager to identify and support any court users who may be disruptive, ensuring their concerns are addressed appropriately while maintaining a respectful and smooth court environment for all participants Given the nature of the role, the candidate must be capable of physical work (manual handling is a requirement and suitable training will be provided) as movement of office machinery, furniture and equipment is required. * A key-holding allowance may be payable where the full range of key-holding duties are undertaken. PRINCIPAL CONDITIONS OF SERVICE The appointment is subject to the Civil Service Regulation Acts 1956 to 2005, the Public Service Management (Recruitment and Appointments) Act 2004 and any other Act for the time being in force relating to the Civil Service. Salary The salary scale for the position (rates effective from March 2025) is as follows: Service Officer - Personal Pension Contribution Salary Scale: €559.97, €588.25, €598.97, €621.52, €641.70, €653.78, €667.88, €684.86, €713.91 (MAX), €728.27 (LSI [1] ), €751.11 New entrants to the Civil Service will be appointed to the first point of the (PPC) salary scale. The PPC pay rate applies when the individual is required to pay a Personal Pension Contribution (otherwise known as a main scheme contribution) in accordance with the rules of their main/personal superannuation scheme. This is different to a contribution in respect of membership of a Spouses’ and Children’s scheme, or the Additional Superannuation Contributions (ASC). A different rate will apply where the appointee is not required to make a Personal Pension Contribution. Salary is payable fortnightly in arrears by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) into a bank account of the appointees’ choice. Payment cannot be made until an appointee supplies a bank account number and bank sort code to the Human Resources Unit of the Courts Service. Statutory deductions will be made from salary as appropriate by the Courts Service. Candidates should note that the salary quoted will not be subject to negotiation . The rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy Duties Appointees will be expected to perform all acts, duties and obligations as appropriate to this position (which may be revised from time to time). Probation Appointees will be required to serve a 12-month probationary period. During the period of the probationary contract, an officer's performance will be subject to review by the appropriate supervisor(s) to determine whether the officer (i) has performed in a satisfactory manner, (ii) has been satisfactory in general conduct, and (iii) is suitable from the point of view of health with particular regard to sick leave. Prior to completion of the probationary contract, a decision will be made as to whether or not an appointee will be retained pursuant to Section 5A(2) of the Civil Service Regulation Acts 1956-2005. This decision will be based on an appointee’s performance assessed against the criteria set out in (i) to (iii) above. The details of the probationary process will be explained to each appointee by the Courts Services as the employer and a copy of guidelines on probation issued by the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform will be provided. In the event that an appointee is not considered as suitable to the position of Service Officer having been assessed against stated criteria, the appointee will be notified in writing of the action to be taken. Hours of Attendance This is a fulltime post, and hours of attendance will be fixed from time to time but will amount to not less than 41 hours and 15 minutes gross per week . Appointees will be required to work such additional hours from time to time as may be reasonable and necessary for the proper performance of his or her duties subject to the limits set down under working time regulations. Due to the nature of the job, working hours will vary but an approximate general outline of hours would be 8.00am to 12.30pm and 2.00pm to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday. Annual Leave This post is a permanent post. The annual leave entitlement for this post is 22 working days per year. Headquarters The appointees’ headquarters may be designated from time to time by the Courts Service, but will be based in Kilkenny Courthouse, Parliament Street, Kilkenny. Sick Leave Pay during properly certified sick absence, provided there is no evidence of permanent disability for service, will apply on a pro-rata basis, in accordance with the provisions of the governing sick leave circulars. Officers paying Class A rate of PRSI will be required to sign a mandate authorising the Department of Social Protection to pay any benefits due under the Social Welfare Acts to such office as will be directed by the Courts Service and payment during illness will be subject to the appointee making the necessary claims for social insurance benefit to the Department of Social Protection directly within the required time limits. Unfair Dismissals Act 1977 – 2005 The Unfair Dismissals Acts 1977-2005 will not apply to the termination of an appointee’s employment by reason only of the expiry of the probationary period of this contract without it being renewed. The Organisation of Working Time Act 1997 The terms of the Organisation of Working Time Act, 1997 will apply, where appropriate, to this employment. Ethics in Public Office Acts: The Ethics in Public Office Acts will apply, were appropriate to this appointment. Civil Service Code of Standards and Behaviours The appointee will be subject to the Civil Service Code of Standards and Behaviours Official Secrecy and Integrity The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Official Secrets Act 1963, as amended by the Freedom of Information Act 2014. Successful candidates will agree not to disclose to third parties any confidential information either during or subsequent to the period of employment. Political Activity During the term of employment the officer will be subject to the rules governing civil servants and politics. Prior approval of publications The employee must agree not to publish material related to official duties without prior approval by the Chief Executive Officer of the Courts Service. Superannuation and Retirement Appointees will be offered the appropriate superannuation terms and conditions as prevailing in the Civil Service at the time of being offered an appointment. In general, an appointee who has never worked in the Public Service will be offered appointment based on membership of the Single Public Service Pension Scheme ("Single Scheme"). Where an appointee has worked in a pensionable (non-single scheme terms) public service job in the 26 weeks prior to appointment or is currently on a career break or special leave with/without pay different terms may apply. Responsibilities: • Manage the performance of the production shift ensuring compliance with H&S, GMP, Customer Requirements and PCI Policies & Procedures. • Ensure the production area is maintained in an audit ready state for both customer and regulatory inspections and act as SME for all visits. • Work with the Planning, Warehouse & QA teams to ensure production kits are available OTIF. • Ensure clear and accurate communication of current production status to all relevant departments through the necessary meetings / updates. • Ensure all batch components are reconciled / dispositioned correctly and in a timely manner. • Manage shift deviations and quality issues through to validation of corrective and preventive actions ensuring investigations are closed out in a timely manner. • Work with the Continuous Improvement team and Department Managers to deliver operational excellence within PCI Ireland focusing on the production function. • Work with the NPI / Validation functions to ensure projects are completed on schedule. • Ensure shift KPI’s are maintained and updated with appropriate corrective actions to rectify downward trends / out-of-spec results • Identify resourcing and training deficits, working with the Operations Manager to develop and implement a plan to correct in a timely and appropriate manner. Knowledge / Skills & Experience Essential: • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a pharmaceutical, medical device or similar environment. • 3rd level diploma or degree in related discipline with comprehensive knowledge of GMP / regulated environment. • Familiar with ERP system management and usage. Desirable: • Dynamic, lead-by-example hands-on individual prepared to take responsibility. • High level of PC skills required. • Pragmatic leadership approach with demonstrated ability to coach and mentor team members. • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills with a record of successfully change management. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
