Job Description Power Plant Hire wish to recruit a First Year Apprentice Construction Plant Fitter to join our busy workshop. You will be working in a well-equipped workshop with a team of dedicated professionals. As the Apprentice Plant Fitter, you will post hire inspect, service and repair our full range of plant hire equipment, maintaining the quality, safety, reliability, and availability of hire stock in an effective manner. You will learn to maintain, diagnose, and resolve technical concerns in mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems of machines and equipment ranging from electrical tools, small petrol plant, large plant such as mini excavators and access equipment. Civil Engineering Apprentice
JOB DESCRIPTION The successful candidate will be required to complete workplace learning in an apprenticeship engineering position within Monaghan County Council. They will also be required to attend off site training at a recognised college they will be assigned through SOLAS throughout their qualification. On completion of the apprenticeship programme the successful candidate will have experience in the following areas: Engineering Practices, Mathematic & Scientific Techniques, Information Technology, Design & Development and Business Information. Tasks/Responsibilities: Amongst other things, an apprentice Civil Engineer will be able to: • Exercise technical judgement at an appropriate level and maintain accurate records. • Apply suitable mathematical techniques to solve well-defined problems in civil engineering and present the solution in an appropriate form. • Use test and measurement instrumentation applicable to civil engineering (materials test equipment, Total Station, GPS etc.). • Use industry standard software tools to gather data, solve well-defined civil engineering problems and display the result, (AutoCAD/BIM/Revit etc). • Communicate well-defined technical matters effectively to other technical personnel and liaise with other third parties. • Give direction to others and manage material and machine resources. • Understand the need for high ethical standards in the practice of engineering, including the responsibilities of the engineering profession towards people and the environment. • Accept and exercise personal and professional responsibility. • Exercise and apply time management. • Create and apply safe working practices (in line with current Safety and Health Legislation). ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POST Apprentice in Civil Engineering 1. Character: Each candidate must be of good character. 2. Health: Each candidate must be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. 3. Age: Each candidate must be over 18 years of age on or before 31st August 2025 4. Essential Education, Training, Experience etc: Each candidate, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms for this Apprenticeship must meet one of the following three criteria: - (a) Hold a QQI Level 5 (Leaving Certificate or equivalent ) qualification Achieved a minimum of 5 grades O6/H7 or higher Leaving Certificate subjects The applicant must also satisfy the maths requirement as outlined below: • H7 in Higher Level Mathematics, or • O6 in Ordinary Level Mathematics, or • F2 in Foundation Mathematics. OR (b) FETAC Awards and Entry The minimum entry requirements for graduates of FETAC to this programme is a full cognate FETAC (Level 5) award or higher to include distinction grades in at least three components. A full FETAC Level 5 major award will have a minimum credit value of 120. Component awards, or achievement of less than 120 credits, do not constitute a full award. Applicants will be expected to include a specific maths module within their FE award or to have achieved the minimum Maths requirement in the Leaving Cert. Applicants with QQI awards at Level 6 or higher may be considered for advanced entry, i.e. into Year 2 in a cognate area. OR (c) Mature Students Mature applicants (defined as who are over 23 on January 1st of the year of entry), do not require the above minimum entry requirements and acceptance will be based on experiential learning, commitment to course objectives and an interview. Mature students will be assessed in interview using the form and guide available from the programme team. Exemptions: Atlantic Technological University may consider exemptions for previously unassessed modules or qualifications under their marks and standards policy. All learners will be provided with appropriate information in relation to the procedure for RPCL (recognised prior certified learning) on their acceptance for a place as appropriate. Metal Fabrication Apprentice
Profile of Craft The Metal Fabricator’s job includes the reading of drawings, working with materials such as low carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel and aluminium. The fabricator is involved in such industries as constructional steel, pressure vessel, tank and boiler manufacture, ship building and ship repair also general engineering. The skills required are wide and varied. They include skills such as measuring, marking out, cutting and welding materials using different processes and assembly techniques. The Metal Fabricator will spend some time outdoors and may be required to work on heights. The company specializing in Fire, Acoustic, Security and Blast resisting doors and performance solutions. Fireblock are currently looking to hire Apprentice Sheet metal fabricators, to join our production team in Baile Mhic Ire, Macroom, Co. Cork. On successful completion of this Metal Fabrication apprenticeship, the apprentice is awarded a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft – Metal Fabrication. This apprenticeship consists of four on-the-job phases with FIREBLOCK and three off-the-job phases in an educational organisation. Apprentices will be invited to attend their off-the-job training phases in accordance with the SOLAS scheduling system. Candidates will have the support and mentoring of highly skilled qualified craftsman. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in manufacturing processes, and ability to work on own initiative. Achieved at least Grade O5 in five Leaving Certificate subjects, including Mathematics and preferably one Technical subject. Candidate should display a positive learning ethos.
