Heavy Goods Vehicle Mechanic

Barna Recycling, Connacht’s leading waste management provider, are currently seeking a HGV mechanic to work as part of a team in our workshop at our Carrowbrowne Facility just outside Galway City. Duties & Responsibilities: · To perform routine maintenance on our fleet. · Electrical and engine troubleshooting and diagnostics. · Engine and transmission repairs. · Diagnose faults and malfunctions. · Perform 12 week safety inspections and pretests. · Provide training and advice to apprentices. · Ability to use hand and power tools related to motor vehicle service and repair. · Complete job reports using a computer or tablet. · Maintaining a clean work environment and follow health & safety procedures. · Work on a wide range of vehicles and trailers Skills: · Ability to diagnose malfunctions and faults. · Attention to detail. · Problem solving. · Knowledge of wiring. · Ability to operate diagnostic equipment. · Knowledge of methods of preventive maintenance and general maintenance. · Ability to work on your own and within a team. · Knowledge of waste industry and advantage but not essential. Qualifications: · Qualified HGV Mechanic. · Experience repairing truck fleet or similar. Remuneration: · Competitive rate depending on experience. Working knowledge of boilers, steam turbines and material handling equipment would be advantageous.  *Trade qualification in a discipline relevant to the field of work. LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Excellent English, both written and verbal communication. Ability to read and interpret documents such as rules, technical procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, and other procedure manuals. Ability to speak and communicate effectively with supervisors and other employees of the organization. Ability to write and fill out forms. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:  Welding, electrical, or machinist certifications desirable.  OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:  Ability to take appropriate safe action on his/her own initiative to prevent equipment damage or injury to personnel during emergencies or unusual situations.  WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. JOB DETAILS Retail Ireland Skillnet are seeking an  Apprentice Support Officer  for the Apprenticeship in Retail Supervision programme for our Cork cohort of apprentices and supporting other regions if necessary. The successful candidate will be based in the Letterkenny Office and will be required to travel to Cork 2-3 times per month when classroom days are being delivered. The successful candidate will also be required to oversee communications and marketing activities. The role is a full-time fixed term contract and will be for 5 days per week.
