Our Core Values: • Collaborate • Accountability • Respect • Empathy • Trust JOB DESCRIPTION – MINI-BUS DRIVER – KILLALOE DAY CENTRE TITLE: Mini-Bus Driver ROLE: Working under the guidance of the Day Centre Manager (in conjunction with the Operations Manager – Day Centres), the Mini-Bus Driver will support the provision of a high quality, effective and efficient person-centred care to clients in receipt of day care. OBJECTIVE: This is a part-time permanent contract of employment to assist with the delivery of a Day Centre Service at Clarecare’s Day Centre facility in Killaloe, Co. Clare for up to 20 older persons on a daily basis. Clarecare is committed to assisting members of our community to retain their independence. Using our own minibuses, we provide a door-to-door service with pick up and return to clients’ homes or pre-arranged allocated destinations. The selected candidate will be an essential member of our team, providing care, interacting with/transporting clients (who include the frail, the aged and people with disabilities) to and from the Centre and Club outings. JOB RELATIONS: The Mini-Bus Driver will report to the Day Centre Manager and work closely with other Day Centre staff members e.g. General Healthcare Assistants/Multi-task Assistants, Volunteers, etc. The Mini-Bus Driver will also be part of the wider Older Persons Services Team in Clarecare. JOB LOCATION: The position offered is based in Clarecare’s Killaloe Centre at Hill Road, Killaloe, Co. Clare but location may change based on operational requirements. DAYS/HOURS OF WORK: Open to negotiation – minimum 3 days per week Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday • 9.00 a.m. – 11.30 a.m. (Free period between 11.30 a.m. and return at 2.15 p.m.) • and 2.15 p.m. to 4.15 p.m. plus an additional 4.5 hours to be worked over Tues to Thurs i.e. minimum total of 18 hours per week. You are required to be flexible regarding your start/finish time / work hours and work days per week to meet the operational requirements of this evolving Service. Work days/work hours are subject to change. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION: General Responsibilities: • To report to the Day Centre Manager or designate (e.g. Operations Manager – Day Centres). • To adhere to Clarecare policies and procedures in relation to your work with Clarecare. • Ability to maintain the principles of confidentiality in all areas of work. • To maintain files in accordance with Clarecare standards in order to ensure that good record keeping practices are in place. • To work as part of the wider Clarecare Structure. • To support the work of staff, volunteers, students and others involved in Clarecare. • To attend supervision sessions with your Line Manager. • To maintain professional boundaries in all work with clients, staff, volunteers, external suppliers, etc. • To perform such other duties appropriate to the office as may be assigned to you by your Line Manager or designate. • Attend meetings in connection with Day Care Centre. • Attend and participate in all mandatory and other relevant training as advised by your Line Manager. • Attend other meetings as necessary. Specific Responsibilities: • In conjunction with the Day Centre Manager, be responsible for the planning of appropriate routes for the collection and delivery of clients. • Ensure all clients are wearing seat belts and that wheel chairs are secured. • Build trusting relationships with clients and their carers so that they feel secure and welcome on their way to and from day care service. • Ensure that observations/assessments of clients made during the journey are reported in a timely manner to the Day Centre Manager or another appropriate person. Any communication from family members in relation to clients to be passed along to Day Centre Manager as soon as possible • Carry out regular safety checks of the vehicle and equipment (First Aid kit) and ensure all equipment is in good working order. Any findings should be noted and reported to Day Centre Manager for further action. • Ensure the vehicle is kept clean and tidy (inside and out) at all times. • As necessary, take Mini-Bus to be washed and claim expenses for same on producing relevant receipt to Day Centre Manager. • Inform Day Centre Manager of any difficulties with the bus and NOT undertake repairs themselves. • Keep appropriate daily mileage figures, repairs and servicing records should report and fill in of any Incident Report forms immediately following any incidents so as important information is not forgotten • Ensure contact with clients is made via the Day Centre Manager and transport staff should not telephone family members unless instructed so by CM so as to avoid any confusion • Plan their working day ahead of time (e.g. who is driving & who is escorting) • Refuelling of the vehicle must take place after evening delivery of clients to ensure the vehicle is ready for the next morning. • Only use the vehicle at the direction of the Day Centre Manager and for no other purpose other than the business of Clarecare. • Participate in any mandatory training e.g. patient moving & handling/manual handling, Infection Prevention & Control, Hand Hygiene, Basic First Aid, etc. • Be willing to undertake and participate in any additional training to enhance the role. • Respect clients and their families showing dignity, courtesy and professionalism at all times. • Assist in the provision of a quality service and work in line with Clarecare and locally devised policies and procedures. • Maintain the confidentiality of all information made available to him / her during the course of his / her work. • Maintain a strict code of personal and general hygiene in the work place as per work schedules and existing policies and procedures. • Be familiar with your responsibilities and willing to undertake same, in accordance with the role of Mini-Bus Driver. • Ensure policy and procedures are correctly followed and adhered to, in accordance with Environmental Health & Health & Safety, Centre protocols, Clarecare’s wider policies & procedures, etc. • Where required, wear relevant personal protective clothing (i.e. gloves, mask, apron/gown etc) as per Clarecare and HSE regulations/Public Health guidelines) on a daily basis. • Listen effectively and carry out tasks in a timely manner. • Ability to quickly understand instructions and follow them closely. • Well-developed communication skills and ability to interact socially with clients and peers/staff/others. • Excellent customer service skills. • A great team player. • Be willing to undertake any other relevant duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION: Essential Requirements: • Must hold a current clean class D/D1 Driving Licence. • Must hold a current Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC). • Valid and current Manual Handling/Patient Handling Certification – this can be provided by Clarecare. • A keen interest in, and a passion for, caring for the older person. • Possess a friendly, positive, helpful and caring attitude towards other team members & clients alike. • Have experience of carrying out general operative duties and bus checks. • Have good personal presentation. • Ensure timely/effective service. • Have a sound knowledge of Killaloe and surrounding geographical areas. • Must be physically fit, able to assist in the boarding and disembarkation of the vehicle. • Ensure the vehicle is maintained in a clean presentable condition. • Proven reliability and punctuality with a positive, can do attitude. • Ability to work with older people in a professional capacity with a keen understanding of their needs. • Excellent time keeping, communication, organisation and interpersonal skills with the ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team in a fast-paced working environment. • A positive ‘fit to work’ pre-employment medical through Clarecare. • A positive Garda vetting disclosure through Clarecare. • Two positive written employment references from your current and most recent employer(s) through Clarecare. Desirable: • Previous professional experience of working in a care or social work setting. • Minimum of 1 years’ experience in same/similar employment is desirable • Current First Aid training. • A knowledge of the work & ethos of Clarecare. SALARY/GRADE: • €17.57 gross per hour worked commensurate with experience with a further 2% pay increase on 1/10/2026 pending receipt of funding for same. This however, should not be interpreted as being indicative of any additional salary increases into the future, beyond the above stated terms. The corporate headquarters are located at Áras Contae an Chláir, New Road, Ennis and there are four Municipal Districts (Ennis, Shannon, Killaloe, and West Clare) which are supported through area offices in Ennis, Scarriff, Shannon, Ennistymon and Kilrush. There are 28 elected members, approximately 990 staff and an annual operating budget of €204 million in 2026. Clare County Council provides a diverse range of services across a large geographic area. Key services areas include Planning, Placemaking & Economic Development, Rural & Community Development, Housing Services, Housing Activation & Delivery, Capital Infrastructure Delivery, Land Activation, Derelict Sites and Property, Transportation, Mobility and Health & Safety, Climate Action, Environment & Water Services, Fire Service, Building Control & Major Emergency Management, Tourism, Festivals & Events, Libraries, Arts & Cultural Services, Enterprise and Investment, along with Sports & Amenities. These operations are supported by internal services which include ICT & Digital Services, Corporate Services & Governance, Finance, People, Culture and Organisational Development functions. There is a diverse demographic across urban and rural communities with tourism bringing seasonal changes in population and activity in the county. The Shannon estuary, Shannon Airport, industrial zones, and geographic location between larger urban areas, coupled with the unique landscape and heritage add to the diversity of activity in the County. Local democracy is strengthened through the Municipal Districts and changes in legislation and regulation have placed greater emphasis on the role of the Local Authority in driving economic activity, ensuring accountability, accessibility and innovation while placing the customer and the community to the fore of service delivery. Clare County Council is currently inviting applications from suitably qualified persons for the above competition. Clare County Council will, following the interview process, form a panel for the post of Retained Part-time Firefighter (Kilrush) from which future relevant vacancies may be filled subject to sanction approval from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. Positions will be offered in order of merit as per the panel. This panel will exist for 12 months and may be extended for a further period of 6-12 months at the discretion of the Chief Executive. Clare County Council invites applications from suitably qualified persons, who wish to be considered for inclusion on a panel from which vacancies for Retained Fire-Fighters may be filled throughout the lifetime of the panel. Duties A Firefighter shall be required to attend at fires and other emergencies, drills, displays and other duties at such times and for such periods as required by the County Council. Failure to respond promptly to fire or other emergency calls will be addressed through the Local Authority’s disciplinary procedure. Each Firefighter who attends for Fire Brigade service must be prepared to accept the work entailed and to fulfil to the best of their ability their duty as a Firefighter in the saving of life, saving of property and the fighting of fires or other such emergencies. Every Firefighter must comply with Clare County Council’s Crew Management Arrangements for Retained Firefighters. Firefighters who are on standby during fires or other incidents shall remain at the Station and perform such duties as may be assigned by the Station Officer from time to time during the callout. Firefighters shall ensure that the Fire Station is kept clean & tidy at all times. Firefighting equipment shall be kept clean, maintained properly and stowed away in a safe manner. Firefighters are required to adhere to and co-operate with all National and Local Agreements pertaining to the Fire Services. Firefighters will be required to attend Training Courses as directed. Firefighters must undertake driving duties as required. Comply with all organisational policies, procedures and legislation. Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time. EDUCATION:  Firefighters must have attained a satisfactory level of education to enable them to perform satisfactorily as a Firefighter and to successfully undergo the appropriate training. CHARACTER: A Firefighter must be of good character and shall not at any time bring the County Council into disrepute. Employment will be subject to the provision of satisfactory references and Garda Vetting. AGE: A Firefighter must be not less than 18 years on the first day of the month in which the latest date for receiving application forms occurs. A birth certificate must be submitted to the County Council as proof of age before a person is engaged as a recruit. DRIVING LICENCE: A recruit Firefighter shall possess a valid full current Category B Driving Licence at the time of applying for the post and ideally a Category C Driving Licence for HGV with up to eight passengers.  All newly appointed Retained Firefighters will be required to obtain a Category C Driving Licence. Firefighters will co-operate with further Driver Training and will be required to drive fire service vehicles, if operationally needed.  If a Firefighter has their licence suspended or removed for any reason, they must immediately inform the County Council, and it shall be dealt with through the Council’s disciplinary procedure and may result in termination of service at the absolute discretion of the County Council. HEALTH: A Firefighter shall be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. Medical Examination, etc.: Before recruitment, in order to ascertain the health of a candidate, successful applicants shall undergo such medical examinations (which may include x-ray and/or other special tests) as the County Council considers necessary. The County Council will nominate the medical examiners. The candidate must comply, at their own expense, with such remedial requirements as the County Council consider necessary. An Operational Firefighter shall: - Agree to participate in the Occupational Health Scheme for Retained Firefighters in operation by Clare County Council; and At any time, if requested by the County Council, undergo such medical examination(s) by medical examiner (s) as nominated by the County Council; and Attend medical examinations in accordance with the frequency set down in the Occupational Health Scheme for Retained Firefighters as issued by the (LGMA) to Local Authorities Any defects discovered pertaining to a medical examination will not be remedied at the County Council's expense. Retention as an operational Firefighter will depend upon receipt of satisfactory reports by medical examiner(s) and to the general condition above as to health.  An operational Firefighter is required to maintain an appropriate level of physical fitness. RESIDENCE: Persons appointed must live and work within a maximum of 5 minutes travel time (based on GPS navigation planner e.g. Google maps or similar as determined by Clare County Council) to allow them to respond for the duration of their employment as a Firefighter. The Council retains the right to request further evidence, if required on the information supplied, for the purpose of verification of place of residence and location of employment. A Firefighter shall notify the County Council in writing of any subsequent changes of residence or place of employment. A change of residence or place of employment that would place the Firefighter outside these limits will mean automatic termination of employment. The Council will check this prior to appointment and at periodic intervals after appointment. The salary shall be fully inclusive and shall be as determined from time to time. Holders of the post will be paid at the appropriate point on the salary scale in accordance with the relevant Department Circular. Where the appointee has been serving elsewhere in the public service in an analogous grade and pay-scale and will be moving without break to another part of the public sector at an analogous grade, the appointment may be made at the appointee’s current point of scale. The rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy. Starting pay for new entrants to the sector will be at the minimum of the scale. Retained Firefighter: A Firefighter shall be paid at the appropriate approved national rates of Fire and Drill Fees and Retainer Fees and in accordance with any national agreements for retained Firefighters.  Payment of fees will be made fortnightly. Retained Fire Service – Fire Fighter - Rates Applicable at 1st June 2026 Retained Firefighter: A Firefighter shall be paid at the appropriate approved national rates of Fire and Drill Fees and Retainer Fees and in accordance with any national agreements for retained Firefighters.
