The service is integrated with the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital (RVEEH). The post holder will work as part of the established multidisciplinary Primary Care Eye Team (PCET) which currently includes two consultant medical ophthalmologists, clinical optometrists, an orthoptist, an ophthalmic technician and a staff nurse. Adult and paediatric clinics are delivered from Kilnamanagh Tymon Primary Care Centre in Tallaght with a paediatric service also delivered in Kildare primary care centre. The PCET delivers paediatric and adult ophthalmic care including pre and post-operative cataract clinics, glaucoma clinics, anterior segment laser and medical retina clinics with an intravitreal injection service to be initiated in 2025. The service is paperless with all clinical information being recorded on an electronic ophthalmology system (MediSIGHT). The post holder will act as a specialist practitioner in the delivery of a varied range of nurse-led ophthalmic services with a special focus on the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with Medical Retina conditions. The CNS will have a key role in caring for the growing demand of patients requiring Intravitreal treatments and will be expected to deliver intravitreal injections. The CNS may also work across other clinical pathways including cataract pre and post-operative assessment, glaucoma, and paediatric ophthalmology. The post holder will be expected to utilise a person-centred approach in the delivery of nurse-led services whilst demonstrating expert knowledge and skills in the clinical setting.
