Youth Advocate Programmes Ireland Vacancies: Advocates – Fixed Purpose Contracts YAP Ireland is continuously recruiting male and female Advocates from all areas to work within their local communities, supporting children, young people and families to achieve their goals. YAP Advocates come from all walks of life and make a huge difference to the lives of Young People and Families. Youth Advocates – Fixed Purpose Contracts – Person Spec and Job Description The Youth Advocate reports to a Team Leader. This post requires working within the YAP strengths-based model, to provide 1:1 support for vulnerable young people and their families and to support them in their home and local communities so that they can achieve their goals. YAP Ireland provides a strengths-based, needs led service for 6-12 months to children, young people and families who are struggling with a range of issues in their lives. You will work intensively with them to achieve positive change and meet their goals. Responsibilities and Tasks: 1. To deliver a 1:1 service to young people and families under the supervision and support of the Team Leader. 2. Together with the Team Leader to build a positive, supportive working relationship with the young person and their family using the YAP strengths-based model to help them achieve their goals. 3. Together with the Team Leader, to develop a plan of work (Individualised Service Plan) to focus on the abilities, strengths and needs of the young person and their families. 4. To carry out day to day work with the young person and family, addressing their needs as outlined in the ISP. This may involve supporting the young person to participate in appropriate education, accessing appropriate services or finding community activities to link the young person into. 5. To promote, enable and empower the young person and families voice to be heard and ensure they have a voice in their service/life/community. This includes activity groups, participation and consultation groups. 6.Together with the Team Leader, to adopt a Wraparound approach that will bring together those key people and services who can offer support to the young person and family during and after the YAP Service. 7. To identify and evaluate the changing needs and interests of the child/young person as the relationship progresses and to adapt the service accordingly. 8. To understand the Health and Safety policies required for all activities with young people including any specific medical history, medications and specific special needs and/or diagnosis. 9. To complete in a timely and accurate manner the required weekly paperwork and to submit to the line manager by the agreed deadlines. 10. To be familiar with all Yap’s current policies and procedures, especially in the areas of Child Protection, Confidentiality and On-Call and to work within those in a professional manner. 11. To attend staff development, training and supervisory sessions as scheduled. This will include regular supervision. Some training courses are mandatory and advocates will be required to attend this training. 12. To undertake other duties as appropriate. Non-essential 3 months experience of working / volunteering within a youth work, family support or community setting Skills Essential A positive attitude towards children and young people and an ability to work from a strengths based perspective, be non-judgemental and creative. A knowledge/understanding of issues affecting young people. June 2025 The HSE Dublin and Midlands serves a population of circa 1,077,639 (20.9% of the country’s population) providing health and social care services to communities living within Dublin West, Dublin South-West, Dublin South City, Laois, Longford, Offaly, Kildare, West Wicklow and Westmeath. Currently, approximately 30k staff work within the HSE Dublin and Midlands Region providing key health and social care services with a budget of €4 billion. The region has 4 Integrated Health Areas, serving a population of around 300,000 and take account of local geographies, population size, needs and services. The IHA areas are HSE Dublin South City and West, HSE Dublin South West, HSE Kildare and West Wicklow and HSE Midlands and the Integrated Healthcare Managers are in post since October 2024. IHAs bring together both acute and community services as well as other non-HSE providers and are crucial to supporting and enabling integrated care. Within the 4 Integrated Health Areas there are 9 acute hospitals (model 4s and 3s, mix of statutory and voluntary providers) delivering a full range of acute hospital, women and children’s services, in addition to specialised radiation and oncology care. There are also 6 integrated care hubs/CSTs and 20 Community Health Networks/Areas who together will serve the population health needs of our area. The reform Programme for HSE Dublin and Midlands provides an opportunity to shape the future of health and social care in a rapidly changing environment and to continue to implement safer better health care through integrated services. Health Regions will be the primary service coordination and delivery units for the vast majority of health and social care services provided across Ireland. They will provide the governance and organisational arrangements to enable planning. The Regional Hospital Mullingar is a Model 3 Statutory Hospital forming part of the HSE Dublin and Midlands regional healthcare area. The Hospital provides a wide range of health services for people in Westmeath and Longford and a specialised service for a broader Midlands population of 291,000 including Laois, Offaly, North Meath, Kildare and Roscommon. The Hospital has 216 beds (184 inpatient, 16-day beds, 10 short term stay beds and a 6 bedded Medical Assessment Unit) and provides a range of services, on a 24-hour basis. The Hospital has a combined Critical Care Unit comprising of six beds (ICU/CCU). The hospital provides the following acute services: · Accident & Emergency · General Medicine (Including Regional Stroke Thrombolysis) · General Surgery · Obstetrics and Gynaecology · Paediatrics / Special Care Baby Unit · Critical Care · 24 hour CT scanning service · Out-Patient Services incl. Ophthalmology The Maternity Unit had 1693 births in 2024. The Special Care Baby Unit consists of 5 cots providing specialist care to infants born from 32 weeks’ gestation supported by the nursing, neonatal and paediatric team at the hospital. The unit is managed by a Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (CNM). The unit is also supported by a dedicated Clinical Skills Facilitator. In addition the nursing team work closely with Allied Health Professional groups, including pharmacists, dietetics.
