Such a reserve list will be compiled and held for a period of 12 months’. Purpose and Function of Post ·             As part of the Leisure Services team contribute to the provision of a quality, safe, customer-focused, value for money service. ·             Supervise, control, and assist Fitness Suite users in a pleasant, purposeful and professional manner. ·             Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Fitness Suite completing relevant documentation, reporting faults and ensuring equipment is maintained and serviced in line with manufactures guidelines. JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Fitness Instructor (Part-time) Department : Health, Leisure & Wellbeing Salary: Scale 3 (SCP 7-8) £13.69 - £13.90 gross per hour Reports to : Duty Manager Location: Dungannon Leisure Centre Duration: Permanent Hours:  13.5 hours average per week – see rota (may include working evenings, weekends and public holidays) Principal Duties and Tasks Performed: 1.     Provide professional instruction in all aspects of health and fitness training to all user groups, including schools, ensuring all clients use equipment safely by supervising their conduct. 2.     Plan and design individually tailored fitness programmes which meet the health and exercise needs of the gym/ class user, carry out fitness assessments and plan and prepare written client programmes. 3.     Maintain standards of health & safety through alert supervision and the application of the Council’s Health & Safety Policy, Facility Normal Operation procedure and Emergency Action Plan. 4.     Provide facility induction and fitness testing, maintaining relevant records in compliance with the Council’s data protection policy. 5.     Carry out duties in relation to erecting and dismantling equipment, preparing areas for events and activities including sports and exhibition displays. Ensuring all equipment is checked and safe for use and stored safely after use. 6.     Perform, and record, regular inspections and routine maintenance in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations (where applicable) of all equipment and fittings, taking appropriate action to ensure safe and efficient operation and use of equipment. 7.     Actively promote exercise to enhance motivation of the customer base, and attract new members, in particular the promotion of marketing projects and initiatives designed specifically at the fitness suite. 8.     Deliver a wide range of group, fitness, and wellbeing programmes where suitably qualified (for which the appropriate rate will be paid). 9.     Proactively promote the Centre’s fitness facilities, programmes and memberships and facilitate the development, and implementation, of fitness challenges. 10. Maintain high standards of cleanliness in the Fitness Suite and associated areas. 11. Participate fully in staff training and development in compliance with Council policy to continuously develop personal knowledge, competency and skills. Attend staff meetings as required. 12. Adhere to Council policies including Equal Opportunities Policy and Employee Code of Conduct. 13. Undertake any other duties that may reasonably be assigned to this post. Person Specification 1.0        Essential Qualifications and Experience: ·       Hold a minimum of a recognised “Level 2” Certificate in Gym Fitness Instructing AND 1.1 Applicants must demonstrate specific and personal examples of having a least 1 year’s relevant experience in the following areas: a)    Fitness instructor experience acquired in the leisure industry. b)    Effective oral and written communication skills c)     Health and Safety legislation and good practice. 1.2  Desirable Qualification and Experience a)    Hold a minimum of a recognised “Level 3” Certificate in Personal Training. b)    Possess a current REPS recognised group based exercise qualification, for example spinning, kettlebells, Pilates etc. Shortlisting Criteria may be enhanced to facilitate shortlisting. In addition to the standard pre-employment checks, this position will also be subject to receipt of a satisfactory Enhanced with the Barred List Access (NI) check. 2.0 COMPETENCIES In accordance with the Competency Framework for Local Government1, applicants for this post must demonstrate the following competencies at Operational Level: 2.1 Providing Leadership and Direction Leadership – motivates others to achieve their objectives and organisational goals through involvement and providing feedback and support.
