Youthreach Resource Person
Job Purpose: Youthreach is an integral part of the national programme of second-chance education and training in Ireland. It is directed at early school leavers aged between 15 and 20 years and operates on a full-time, year-round basis. Participation in Youthreach offers young people the opportunity to identify and pursue viable options within adult life and provides them with opportunities to acquire recognised certification. All staff and learners in Youthreach will participate in the Youthreach Quality Framework Initiative for planning, evaluation and validation purposes. The Resource Person, who reports to the Youthreach Co-Ordinator on a day-to-day basis, is a core member of the Youthreach staff team. YRR526 – Resource Person working 28 hours per week (16 hours instruction, 12 hours administration). They are not only involved in direct teaching duties but also work closely with centre management in the overall planning, delivery and evaluation of the programme. KEY TASKS: Duties will consist of those appropriate to the position (as set out in C.L. 12/03) which will be assigned to the appointee from time to time by the Youthreach Centre Co-Ordinator / Adult Education Officer / Director FET / Chief Executive / Deputed Officer. The Youthreach Resource Person will work with the Co-Ordinator and the whole staff to: • Keep up to date with the main curriculum and policy developments (local, national and EU) in the area of youth education, training and development, particularly as they relate to their subject area. • Assist in the implementation of a comprehensive and relevant Centre Development Plan for the Youthreach Programme. • Participate fully in the internal evaluation process as set out in the Youthreach Quality Framework. • Meet the statutory requirements set down by QQI, for example Quality Assurance, Programme Validation and Learner Assessment. • Develop and deliver a number of specific learning programmes or courses in line with programme needs. • Conduct initial, formative and summary assessment of trainees’ work in ways that are appropriate and professional and facilitate achievement of recognised certification. • Assist in the provision of first-line guidance and information to the young people and their parents or guardians, as appropriate. • Contribute to the development of Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Board Health and Safety policies and procedures and implement these in ways that promote the health, safety and welfare of Youthreach trainees, staff and visitors. • Produce high quality work-related written reports and documents as requested by the Centre Co-Ordinator / Adult Education Officer / Director FET / Chief Executive / Deputed Officer. • Perform a range of administrative duties relevant to the post as directed by the Programme Co-Ordinator. • Participate in relevant training opportunities and use work activities to enhance professional development on an ongoing basis. • Provide locally agreed substitution cover for absent staff and supervise trainees as necessary during breaks and at opening and closing of the centre. • Perform other job-related tasks as may be assigned from time to time by the Centre Co-Ordinator / Adult Education Officer / Director FET / Chief Executive / Deputed Officer. PARTNERSHIP WORKING: • Work in partnership with personnel across Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Board Further Education and Training Service to promote integration and enhance Youthreach provision. • Work in partnership with relevant community, voluntary and statutory personnel, agencies and groups in the Ballinrobe area to ensure that the Youthreach Centre is embedded within the local community and meeting the identified needs of young people. • Consult with local stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that maximise the use of the centre for the benefit of young people, parents and families. Experience of delivering Metalwork (essential) and other Leaving Certificate Applied or QQI subjects. Relevant experience of working with young people, preferably early school leavers. Working knowledge of a range of assessment and accreditation systems and procedures, for example QQI, Leaving Certificate Applied, Junior Certificate. Working knowledge of a range of teaching and learning methods and approaches appropriate to early school leavers. PROFESSIONAL SKILLS: The Youthreach Resource Person will be highly competent in: • Working as a member of a team. • Using Information and Communication Technologies. • Managing a classroom. • Facilitating groups of learners. The Office: The normal working week is a 28 hours (16 hours instruction and 12 hours administration) four-day week basis excluding breaks. The holder of the office shall not engage in any gainful occupation other than as an employee of MSLETB to such an extent as to impair the performance of duties or in any occupation which might conflict with the interests of MSLETB or be inconsistent with the discharge of duties. Probation: The successful candidate shall serve a probationary period in accordance with the terms set out in MSLETB’s Probationary Policy. Salary: Salary shall be fully inclusive and shall be as determined from time to time. Holders of the office shall pay to MSLETB any fees or monies (other than salary) payable by virtue of the office. Current salary scale for Youthreach Resource Person is: €37,904 – €68,153 per year Sick Leave: Pay during properly certified sick absence, provided there is no evidence of permanent disability for service, will apply on a pro-rata basis in accordance with relevant legislation and Department of Education and Youth sick leave circulars. Location or Base: Your normal place of work will be located in the Further Education Centre, Neale Road, Ballinrobe, County Mayo. Transfers to a different Youthreach Centre will be subject to the terms of the TUI or IVEA Transfer Agreement. Start Date: MSLETB shall require a person to take up appointment within a period of not more than six weeks. If they fail to do so, MSLETB shall not appoint them. Business Travel: When absent from home and headquarters on duty, appropriate travelling expenses and subsistence allowances will be paid subject to normal Civil Service regulations. Superannuation Contributions: Persons who become pensionable officers of MSLETB who are liable to pay Class D rate of PRSI will contribute 5% of pensionable remuneration. Persons liable to pay Class A PRSI will contribute 1.5% of pensionable remuneration plus 3.5% of net pensionable remuneration. All persons who become pensionable officers of MSLETB are required, in respect of Spouses and Children Contributory Pension Scheme 1986, to contribute 1.5% of pensionable remuneration or net pensionable remuneration as relevant. Persons who become pensionable officers of MSLETB for the first time on or after 1 January 2013 are liable to pay Class A PRSI and contribute 3.5% of net pensionable remuneration plus 3% of pensionable pay.
Cleaner
The Principal acting on behalf of Kildare and Wicklow ETB will decide the duties that are to be performed. List of duties (this list is indicative but not exhaustive): a) The Principal will require that the school be cleaned internally to a standard suitable for occupation (teachers, staff, students). b) Sweeping, hoovering and dusting on a daily basis. c) Washing and cleaning of glass, furniture and floors when required under the direction of the Principal, Deputy Principal, Caretaker or Supervisor. d) All toilets to be cleaned, washed and disinfected several times daily. e) Cleaning staff are also required to report any health hazard or damage to school property or equipment in need of repair to the caretaker. f) Cleaning staff are required to ensure that windows and classroom doors are locked following the cleaning of each classroom and external doors are locked when required. g) To perform such other duties as may be required and generally carry out such instructions as may, from time to time, be given by the Principal, Kildare and Wicklow ETB or other responsible officer. h) To assist in general maintenance of the school, its grounds and facilities as instructed by the Principal, and to assist in the general upkeep of the school grounds. i) To attend and provide support for special school functions as may arise from time to time outside normal hours. A cleaning schedule may be operated from time to time. Annual Leave: Holidays must be taken at times to coincide with school holidays and by prior agreement with management. 22 days (pro-rata) days per annum plus public holidays and Good Friday (annual leave period runs from January to December). Remuneration: New entrant rate, salary increase 01/02/2026 Circular 0007/2026. Salary on recruitment: Annual salary is €15,711.12 (44 weeks per year). Salary for 20 hours per week is €355.84. After 6 months: Annual salary is €16,033.53 (44 weeks per year). Salary for 20 hours per week is €363.14.
