We are a leading lighting consultancy practice, based outside Gorey. We specialise in the design of lighting and associated infrastructure. We want to recruit a design technician. While knowledge of lighting technology would be welcome, it is not essential as appropriate training will be provided. After training, the successful applicant will assist in the design process. This role will suit a person with experience in an engineering or other technical field. The candidate will be educated to at least NFQ level 6 in a related technical discipline. QC Technician
Job Overview The QC Technician will be responsible for assisting in daily laboratory tasks, aiding the Quality Control Team. It will be the Technicians responsibility to oversee the calibration/verification of laboratory equipment on a daily basis. The technician will be expected to assist QC analysts with preparation of chemicals and reagents necessary for analytical assessment. On occasion it will be a requirement that the QC technician carry out raw material analysis including but not limited to wet chemistry and/or HPLC/GC. The QC technician will also be expected to assist in the preparation and organization of department documentation.The working hours for this position are Monday to Friday 6am-2pm. This role is responsible for providing drug and alcohol testing services to safety critical business across the UK, Ireland, and overseas. This is an extremely varied role that will include the below duties: • The performance of various analytical procedures, including manual screening and automated methods covering a wide variety of clinical diagnostic and drugs of abuse tests. • The receipt and registration of biological samples into the laboratory • The qualitative and quantitative analysis of biological specimens for drugs of abuse, using biochip array technology and liquid chromatography – mass spectrometry (LCMS) techniques. • The preparation and handling of samples and diagnostic reagents. • The operating of various automated analytical systems. • The accurate maintenance of analytical records and quality documentation. • Strict adherence to chain of custody procedures throughout the analytical process. • The routine maintenance and calibration of analytical instrumentation. • The preparation of test records. • The transfer of biological specimens from RTS, ensuring continuity and stability is safeguarded during shipment. • Strict adherence to the company’s confidentiality policy within and outside the organisation. Essential criteria: • Qualified to at least degree level in a Life Science, Biochemistry or Chemistry • Enthusiasm to learn and follow instruction. • Possess excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks to achieve maximum efficiency without sacrifice of quality. • Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. • Competency with Microsoft Office packages. • An eye for detail with the ability to work well under pressure without sacrificing quality or accuracy. Apprentice Brickwork Technician
Full-time Temporary (36 hours per week) 3-year Apprenticeship Programme. Successful completion of the programme may lead to appointment to a permanent Technician post at Band 3 within Belfast Metropolitan College. To provide specialist technical services to support teaching within the Construction Department. To develop relevant competencies and expertise over the three-year duration of the apprenticeship programme through in-house training, completion of professional/academic qualifications and tailored support and mentoring. This role will require the successful applicant to be on campus to deliver the duties required with the post.

Main Duties & Responsibilities To provide expert technical support and assistance to teaching staff and students and develop and maintain all technical aspects within Motor Vehicle department. Set up, before & during • Preparations of classroom area, resources, materials, equipment and/or tools before classes arrive to carry out practical activities. • Operate and train staff in the use of complex resources, materials, equipment and/or tools using safe working practices. • Demonstration, using expert knowledge, of techniques, resources, materials, equipment and/or tools to students under Lecturers supervision. Supervision of these whilst operated/used by students • Supervising correct usage of resources, materials and/or tools by Lecturers and Students. • Assisting Lecturers during practical sessions and ensuring that students use safe working practices. • Assisting Lecturers with exhibitions and displays of student work, staff research work and visiting exhibitions and displays. • Co-coordinating the loan of resources, materials, equipment and/or tools as required by students for teaching and/or project work and ensuring the correct safeguards are in place for the return of these. • Assisting students with experimental and project work in the use of resources, materials, equipment and/or tools. • Advise on Health and Safety issues in relation to the use of resources, equipment, tools and/or machinery. Stock Control, Storage, Ordering • Maintaining adequate stock levels and records within the curriculum area. • Responsible for sourcing and purchasing new equipment and stock in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible. • Liaising with industry representatives regarding stock. • Implementation of a stock control and cataloguing process using an IT database. • Receiving, checking and ensuring correct storage of stock. • Ensuring relevant stock take is undertaken. • Rotation and stock control of dry and perishable goods where appropriate. Development • Help Identify new technical requirements for the curriculum in conjunction with the course coordinators and Curriculum Managers. • Assisting Lecturing staff in the development and manufacture of teaching aids and models only in relation to the use of resources, materials, equipment and/or tools. • Consultation with companies on Project or contract work to be carried out and advising lecturers on this work and costs. General • Cash handling and completion of relevant documentation where applicable. • Assisting teaching staff with the set up and clearance for exhibitions, competitions and other displays. • Support all staff in ensuring the general safety of students. Duties may change as the College develops, therefore the person appointed will be expected to be flexible in relation to duties performed, subject to consultation. Location may be changed subject to the requirements of the College. Eligibility Criteria Qualifications A minimum of a level 3 NVQ in light vehicle/ heavy vehicle or a related equivalent qualification. GCSE English Language & Mathematics at grade A - C or equivalent qualification. (Where this cannot be evidenced, candidates will be required to undertake an assessment prior to interview to confirm equivalence). Experience At least one years’ experience in a relevant sector. Skills Wide range of skills in workshop maintenance as well as proven ability to operate a range of workshop equipment.

Some of the key duties include: • Liaising with the Quality Personnel ensuring that effective collection and testing procedures are in place which meet the requirements of the various regulatory bodies and international standards which control clinical diagnosis and analysis of clinical trial samples. • To ensure important information is distributed to all staff across all shifts via memo's and emails etc. • To support and participate in staff training and development as required. • Ensuring that all the necessary quality control checks are completed daily and that they meet both internal and external criteria. • Ensure optimum and effective use of staff through efficient rostering, skills planning and workload measurement. • Daily supervision of the laboratory staff, including conducting appraisals and delivering training. • Evaluate each labs/instrument capacity on a regular basis to improve/maintain efficiency within each lab. • Ensuring that the integrity of all samples is adhered to at all times. • Writing of new Standard Operation Procedure and Work Instructions within the department. • Liaising with clients and ensuring that they are receiving the best possible service. Essential criteria: • Qualified to at least degree level in Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry, Immunology or a Life Science. • Experience in diagnostic testing and reagent applications. • Previous laboratory experience. • Excellent communication and organisational skills. • Strong leadership skills and a high level of self-motivation.
