Established in 2010, St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network (SLRON) operates from three Dublin locations – St Luke’s Hospital Rathgar and St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Centres on the campuses of St James and Beaumont Hospitals. The Network provides a full range of world class treatments including a comprehensive VMAT programme, Intra-cranial Stereotactic (SRS), Extra-cranial Stereotactic (SBRT), Total Body Irradiation (TBI) and the national paediatric radiation oncology service. There is also a comprehensive brachytherapy service provided including both prostate seeds and ocular brachytherapy. Currently there are 14 linear accelerators within the Network, 4 in each of the centres at BC & SJC, and 6 on the Rathgar site. There are 2 CT scanners per centre. Both St James and Beaumont centres have an MRI unit. St Luke’s hospital houses the brachytherapy and superficial units. St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network (SLRON) has a long history of involvement in clinical trials and works very closely with Clinical Trials Ireland. St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network (SLRON) serves patients primarily from the Dublin East, Dublin Midlands and Dublin North East regions. Referrals are also received on a wider basis from around the country for the specialist services offered. There are three posts, one post is available in each radiotherapy department of the St. Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network (SLRON). In striving for this excellence, the holistic needs of our patients and their families are our greatest concern. The purpose of MEDLIS Project Manager - Grade VII post is to co-ordinate the implementation of MedLIS to St. Luke’s Hospital and to provide a system administrator and management function after the roll out phase. MedLIS is the new national Laboratory Information System (LIS) to manage laboratory tests. It allows healthcare providers to electronically book tests and access test results. MedLIS is being introduced to improve quality of care and patient safety. Occupational Therapists in St. Columcille’s work to promote and enable independence in activities of daily living and to enable their patients to function at home as independently and safely as possible following a hospital admission, or medical event. The Frailty Intervention Team commenced in the Medical assessment Unit in November 2019. The Occupational Therapy service actively supports student education and participates in the student training scheme with other Health & Social Care Professionals and with Irish Universities. Students can be on site for up to 9 weeks at a time. All students are allocated a named supervisor and engage in formal supervision weekly. The Stroke Rehabilitation service accepts transfers of stroke patients from St. Vincent’s University Hospital for inpatient stroke Rehabilitation. The Stroke unit consists of 8 inpatient beds. SCH is currently an auxiliary service working alongside and as part of neuro-rehabilitation strategy. SCH works on collecting and collating data in line with the neuro-rehabilitation strategy & works closely with the identified specialist rehabilitation sites. SCH has established links with the local Community Neurorehabilitation Team (CNRT) and is represented on the Local Implementation Group for same. Evidence Based Practice The Occupational Therapist, Clinical Specialist (Stroke) will: · Maintain knowledge of and critically analyse current literature and available evidence relevant to the clinical area and integrate same into practice. · Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of interventions within the service and modify accordingly where new evidence emerges. · Develops and continually revise clinical guidelines for own area of practice in accordance with evidence from National, International and professional bodies guidelines. · Puts in place evaluating mechanisms appropriate to the specialist area and demonstrate practices of continual audit and evaluation of the service with a view to maximising effectiveness, efficiency and quality. · To demonstrate advanced level knowledge of evidenced based practice in clinical specialism through the process of clinical reasoning and decision making allowing knowledge to be applied in the complex/different situations Act as Clinical Resource The Occupational Therapist, Clinical Specialist (Stroke) will: · Represent the Occupational Therapy Profession within their own area and across multiple service areas within the HSE and all relevant stakeholders. · Promote and instigate initiatives that will ensure professional practice and advancement of standards · Act in an advanced clinical advisory role to OT colleagues. · Act as an expert occupational therapy clinical resource for the stroke/neurology MDT. · Identify the need for appropriate onward consultation. · Provide clinical expertise on a regional and national basis on their specialist knowledge and skills in a defined clinical area. · Disseminate knowledge and evidence based practice through presentations and publications. Education The Occupational Therapist, Clinical Specialist (Stroke) will: · Contribute to a structured process for education of colleagues, undergraduates and other disciplines in the specialist area. · Contribute to continuing professional development activities in the Occupational Therapy service, and attend where possible relevant post graduate courses and lectures. · Co-operate in the provision of safe and productive clinical placements in accordance with the department’s commitment to clinical training programmes. · Have the necessary computer skills with a knowledge of Clinical Systems, Word Excel and PowerPoint. Continuing Professional Development The Occupational Therapist, Clinical Specialist (Stroke) will: · Identify own personal and professional learning needs. · Deliver appropriate and effective feedback and be receptive to feedback. · Identify and avail of formal and informal learning opportunities within occupational therapy and MDT contexts. · Participate in clinical supervision. · Comply with registration requirements as set out by the Health and Social Care Professional’s Council (CORU). Research The Occupational Therapist, Clinical Specialist (Stroke) will: · Understand the principles of research and research methodology which underpin an analytical approach to clinical practice. · Lead and facilitate research projects relevant to the stroke service. · Collaborate with all relevant stakeholders in respect of relevant research. · Lead the dissemination of research findings locally and nationally within occupational therapy. · Explore innovative ways to contribute to research related to stroke services. · Research and report on emerging practices and new evaluation tools for the stroke occupational therapy service. Health and Safety The Occupational Therapist, Clinical Specialist (Stroke) will: · Draft new and update existing policies and procedures relevant to their role to ensure a safe, effective, efficient service will be delivered. · Be familiar with and ensure implementation of HSE and department policies and procedures, also ensuring compliance with Health and Safety legislation, Occupational Therapy Safety Statement etc. · Collaborate with the Occupational Therapy Manager and deputy Occupational Therapy managers by contributing to the preparation of risk assessments and safety statement for the Occupational Therapy Department. · Document all accidents, incidents and potential hazards immediately and report them to the Occupational Therapy Manager. · Advise the Occupational Therapy Manager regarding any danger/deficiency in the specialist area. · Report any emerging risk issues in a timely manner to the Occupational Therapist Manager and other relevant senior staff within their clinical team and OT service generally. · Attend fire lectures, must observe fire orders and assist in maintaining the fire register. · Participate as required in Occupational Health and Safety training. · Have a working knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) Standards as they apply to the role for example, Standards for Healthcare, National Standards for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections, Hygiene Standards etc. and comply with associated HSE protocols for implementing and maintaining these standards as appropriate to the role. · Support, promote and actively participate in sustainable energy, water and waste initiatives to create a more sustainable, low carbon and efficient health service. Occupational Therapist, Clinical Specialist (Stroke) Terms and Conditions of Employment Tenure The current vacancy available is permanent and whole time. The post is pensionable. A panel may be created from which permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part time duration may be filled. The tenure of these posts will be indicated at “expression of interest” stage. Remuneration The Salary Scale (as at 01/08/2025) for the post is: €70,698 €72,062 €73,464 €74,858 €76,251 €77,718 €79,263 €80,804 €82,040 New appointees to any grade start at the minimum point of the scale. Incremental credit will be applied for recognised relevant service in Ireland and abroad (Department of Health Circular 2/2011). Incremental credit is normally granted on appointment, in respect of previous experience in the Civil Service, Local Authorities, Health Service and other Public Service Bodies and Statutory Agencies. Working Week The standard working week applying to the post is to be confirmed at Job Offer stage. HSE Circular 003-2009 “Matching Working Patterns to Service Needs (Extended Working Day / Week Arrangements); Framework for Implementation of Clause 30.4 of Towards 2016” applies. Under the terms of this circular, all new entrants and staff appointed to promotional posts from Dec 16th 2008 will be required to work agreed roster / on call arrangements as advised by their line manager.
