The Role: The permanent full-time Senior Speech and language therapist will be responsible for delivery of CDNT6 provide services to children from 0-18 with complex development needs which include physical, sensory, intellectual disabilities and autism. The Brothers of Charity Services Ireland (BOCSI) are the lead agency for this team. This post has been funded through the Special School Pilot (for enhanced in-school therapy support to special schools). CDNT6 covers a geographical area of: Galway City East, Claregalway, Gort, Headford and Oranmore. Reports / Responsible to: The Senior Speech and Language Therapist is accountable to the Children’s Network Team Manager. The relationship between the CDNM, BOCSI Head of Speech and Language Therapy and Speech and Language Therapists who work in CDNTs is being developed and will evolve over time in line with national and local agreements. This area will evolve and participation by this post holder is expected. Areas such as supervision, continuous professional development, adherence to discipline specific ethical guidelines and professional competencies are examples which fall under this evolving area. Qualifications: The successful candidate must be currently registered with CORU, the regulator for the Health and Social Care professions and eligible for membership of the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists (I.A.S.L.T.). Qualifications: i) Bachelor in Science in Clinical Speech and Language Studies, University of Dublin, Trinity College Dublin or, ii) Bachelor of Science (Speech and Language Therapy), University College Cork or, iii) Bachelor of Science (Speech and Language Therapy), National University of Ireland, Galway iv) Master of Science in Speech and Language Therapy (Professional Qualification), University of Limerick or v) A Speech & Language qualification approved for registration with CORU, equivalent to the above. A dysphagia qualification or equivalent as outlined in “Standards of Practice for Speech & Language Therapists on the Management of Feeding, Eating, Drinking and Swallowing Disorders (Dysphagia)” Irish Association of Speech & Language Therapists (IASLT) 2012 is essential for this post. A full clean Irish driving licence and use of your own car is an essential requirement. Fluency in verbal and written English an essential requirement of this post. Experience: This post is suitable for a Speech and Language Therapist with: • A minimum of three years post graduate clinical Speech and Language Therapy experience. • Clinical experience in the Independent management of feeding, eating, drinking and swallowing disorders is highly desirable. • A minimum of one year clinical experience in the management of the communication needs of children with complex disabilities. • Experience in clinical Speech & Language Therapy in a Children’s Disability Network Team. • Training and / or experience in the use of TEACCH, Lámh and other forms of AAC an advantage. Working hours: 70 hours a fortnight, the standard working week applying to the post will be confirmed at Job offer stage. Hours will be within the hours of 8am-5pm, Monday to Friday. Contracted hours are liable to change between the hours of 8am– 8pm as future service needs require. The Brothers of Charity model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual. The supervising Psychologist will ensure that the Assistant Psychologist has a realistic balance of work, reflecting the person’s qualifications and experience and his or her need to gain relevant new experiences. The intensity of supervision will gradually decrease as the assistant psychologist gains confidence and skills. The Assistant Psychologist will receive formal supervision in a confidential setting. Overall, the length and amount of supervision will reflect the experience of the Assistant Psychologist and the balance and amount of work to be done. The supervisor will ensure opportunities to observe the Assistant Psychologist’s work in order to evaluate the performance.
