The main purpose of this role is to support the development of the IWA Hotel Holiday Service in the West of Ireland. The role will include day to day administration for the service as well supporting front line staff to deliver quality services to guests in the service. The post requires flexible start and finish times and will centre predominantly around Tuesday / Wednesday and Thursday days which are assigned to simulation but can be any day. A academic timetable will be provided in advance. There will be occasion to work 2-3 Saturdays in the year. The post will be for a period of 6 months and successful candidate will be offered the opportunity to renew. There is no on call commitment with this position. Portiuncula University Hospital has an exciting opportunity for the correct candidate to join an established post graduate education and simulation faculty. The role will involve coordinating and delivering clinical education to clinical staff within the hospital, aligned to relevant curricula and inter professional simulation activities. Portiuncula continues to grow and expand its simulation expertise and programs. It has become a permanent training site for enhanced induction for international medical graduates. This gives trainees new to the country an introduction to the Irish healthcare system, standardised training for clinical skills and introduction to preparedness for practice through simulation. Feedback has been excellent to date and the program continues to grow and innovate new stations yearly. The simulation Lab in the CEIST room under the guidance of Professor Paul O’Hara and Breda Brady simulation nurse educator deliver all post graduate interprofessinal simulation activity. We are supported by Anne Pearce as a full time administrative support. Building on our previous intern boot camps and deteriorating patient interprofessional simulations looking at sepsis, we have added the management of shock, pulmonary embolism, respiratory distress, maternity simulation for foetal distress, expanding training nationally for the transfer of the critically ill child program, and ultrasound guided clinical skills for SHOs (MOTION Program). PUH is one of the few sites in the country delivering POCUS skills regularly to trainees. Professor O’Hara is the national lead for RCPI train the trainer program for point of care ultrasound. We have experience in large in-situ simulations, including simulated ward testing prior to opening our two newest wards Orchard and Garbally . This tested deteriorating patient scenarios within the new wards prior to opening to help stress test pathways, protocols, staff orientation and patient flow. We plan to run a massive transfusion protocol testing sim in early 2026 as a key priority. We continue to benefit from an excellent relationship with nursing, medical and allied health staff, simulated patients, and management who have helped get PUH simulation and education department to where it is today.
