The Assistant Staff Officer is a key support position within the Council and is assigned to a service delivery area or to support a functional area as required. The Assistant Staff Officer will work under the direction and management of the Staff Officer or analogous grade or other employee designated by the Administrative Officer, Senior Executive Officer or Director of Services as appropriate. The role involves supporting managers and colleagues and working as part of a team in meeting work goals and objectives and delivering quality services to internal and external customers. Hours of Duty The person appointed will be required to work a 35 hour week. The successful candidate will be required to log their hours of work in accordance with the requirements of the Organisation of Working Time Act, 1997 and will be required to co-operate with the use of technologies to record such hours. Annual Leave: The annual leave entitlement will be 30 days per annum. Residence: Holder of the post shall reside in the district in which their duties are to be performed or within a reasonable distance thereof. Outside Employment: The position is whole-time and the employee may not engage in private practice or be connected with any outside business which would interfere with the performance of official duties. Driving Licence: While not an essential requirement for the position, it would be desirable that Candidates hold a full valid driving licence. Summary of Position The purpose of this post is to provide high-level administrative support to Waterford and Wexford Education and Training Board. The successful candidate(s) will support the delivery of quality services, as per the organisation’s remit, working with colleagues across WWETB and the broader community, including Schools and Further Education and Training Centres. Candidates shall: (a) hold an honours degree (level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications) in Engineering; (b) have at least five years satisfactory relevant engineering experience; (c) possess a high standard of technical training and experience; and (d) possess a high standard of administrative experience. Health: For the purposes of satisfying the requirements as to health, it will be necessary for successful candidates, before they are appointed, to undergo at their expense a medical examination by a qualified medical practitioner to be nominated by the Local Authority. Annual Leave: Annual leave entitlement will be 30 days per annum exclusive of public holidays and Good Friday. Garda Vetting: Candidates may be subject to Garda Vetting. Appointment(s) will be considered having regard to receipt of satisfactory Garda Vetting, particularly to determine suitability to work with children/vulnerable adults. Retirement: There is no mandatory retirement age for new entrants to the Public Service as defined in the Public Services Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2004. Persons who are NOT new entrants to the Public Service as defined in the Public Services Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2004 are subject to a compulsory retirement age of 70 years. Persons who become pensionable officers of a local authority who are liable to pay the Class A rate of PRSI contribution will be required in respect of their superannuation to contribute to the local authority at the rate of 1.5% of their pensionable remuneration plus 3.5% of the net pensionable remuneration (i.e. pensionable remuneration less twice the annual rate of social insurance old age contributory pension payable at the maximum rate to a person with no adult dependant or qualified children). Persons who become pensionable officers of a local authority who are liable to pay the Class D rate of PRSI contribution will be required in respect of their superannuation to contribute to the local authority at the rate of 5% of their pensionable remuneration.
